It’s been awhile since the NFL flexed a game to Sunday night. The Bengals vs. Chiefs is a worthy choice. No games were moved from day to night last season, except for the final weekend, when all games are scheduled for the afternoon until the league and NBC figure out what is most attractive for prime time. In 2016, there were three flexed games, including Week 17. Not counting that, the last flex was Bucs at Cowboys on Dec. 18, 2016.So switching a pair of first-place teams made sense: Cincinnati (4-2) is at Kansas City (5-1).Some of the juicy plot lines involve offense, hardly a surprise in this year of points, points and more points. Kansas City has the league’s lowest-ranked defense and the Bengals rank 29th. Even worse, both are dealing with a slew of injuries on that side of the ball.So Patrick Mahomes throwing to Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce and Kareem Hunt could fill the screen. So might Andy Dalton connecting with A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd.“Any time you want to be one of the great ones on the defense or you want your defense to have a statement-type game, you have to do it against the best offenses in the league,” Cincinnati defensive end Carlos Dunlap said. “And right now, they’re putting up those points like they’re one of the best offenses in the league. So you’ve got to go out there and put it on ’em.”There are some caveats to this matchup, however.Although the Bengals have won four straight in the series dating to Oct. 14, 2007, they are 3-15 on Sunday nights, losing eight straight. The Chiefs are 7-3 in games on Sunday nights. The weekend began with Denver’s 45-10 victory at Arizona on Thursday nightEmmanuel Sanders threw and caught touchdown passes Doug Flutie Jerseys 2019 , Denver returned two interceptions for first-quarter touchdowns and the Broncos snapped a four-game losing streak.Todd Davis returned rookie Josh Rosen’s deflected pass for a touchdown on the second play of the game and Chris Harris Jr. took another back 53 yards for a score with 2:02 left in the quarter as the Broncos (3-4) opened a 21-3 lead. Rosen threw three interceptions and fumbled the ball away twice on a rough night that began badly for him and never got better. The Cardinals (1-6), down 35-3 at the half, fell to 0-4 at home for the first time since 1979.Off this week are Seattle (3-3), Green Bay (3-2-1), Oakland (1-5) and Pittsburgh (3-2-1).New England (4-2) at Chicago (3-2)Seems like every week, the Patriots’ opponent is battered by injuries to key players. No one is more key in Chicago than edge rusher Khalil Mack, who is battling an ankle problem.Just what Tom Brady needs against one of the five teams he’s never lost to. Brady is 4-0 against the Bears; the others are Atlanta (5-0), Dallas (4-0), Minnesota (4-0) and Tampa Bay (4-0).While the Bears should be able to move the ball on New England, they’ll likely need lots of points for a chance in this one.New Orleans (4-1) at Baltimore (4-2)Just like Patriots-Bears, this is one terrific offense against defense matchup. New Orleans ranks third in total offense and Baltimore is first on defense.Led by Drew Brees, who set the yards passing career mark in a rout of the Redskins before their bye the Saints have won four in a row. Nobody is more balanced with the ball now that RB Mark Ingram is back from suspension to team with dynamic Alvin Kamara. Brees, who is 0-4 vs. the Ravens, this year has a 78 percent completion rate for 1,658 yards with 11 touchdowns and no interceptions. The Ravens had 11 sacks last week against Tennessee and a league-most 26 overall. They are allowing an NFL-low 12.8 points per game and the fewest yards per game (270.8). Baltimore has four of the NFL’s past 14 shutouts since the start of the 2017 season.Carolina (3-2) at Philadelphia (3-3)An intriguing matchup of a solid running team in Carolina, led by Christian McCaffrey and QB Cam Newton, facing the second-stingiest rushing defense in a place where the Eagles are 17-4 under Doug Pederson. As for the air game, which seemingly everyone needs to succeed these days, Carolina is far too inconsistent.Meanwhile White Jim Kelly Jerseys , Carson Wentz has thrown at least one TD in his past 19 games played, the longest streak in franchise history and second-longest active streak behind Andrew Luck (28). Wentz has thrown 133 consecutive passes without a pick. His longest streak is 135 passes.Tennessee (3-3) vs. Los Angeles Chargers (4-2) at LondonThe Titans were humiliated at home by Baltimore and should welcome the long trip overseas. Then again, they have lost 10 of the past 11 to the Chargers and bring a sputtering offense into Wembley.Although Tennessee has a solid D, it faces an in-synch offense. The Chargers are 13-5 since starting last season 0-4 and QB Philip Rivers leads the AFC and ranks second in the NFL with a 115.1 passer rating. He has 13 TD passes and four interceptions in seven games vs. the Titans.Houston (3-3) at Jacksonville (3-3)The other AFC South leaders. After beginning the season with three defeats, the Texans have turned it around, albeit all their wins have been tight affairs, two in overtime.Defensive end J.J. Watt , perhaps the NFL’s best player when healthy, is back in form after missing most of the 2016 and ’17 seasons with injuries. Watt has seven sacks and three forced fumbles in the past four games. The Jaguars have a solid defense, too, particularly against the pass, where they ranked first in yards surrendered. But Jacksonville was outscored 70-21 in consecutive road losses, forcing coach Doug Marrone to return to training camp practices this week to emphasize fundamental football.Dallas (3-3) at Washington (3-2)Among pro sports’ most intense rivalries, this will be a physical and possibly low-scoring affair given the strength of both defenses and imbalance of the offenses.Dallas, winless on the road, will try to run with Ezekiel Elliott, second in rushing yards with 586 and third in yards from scrimmage with 752. Washington will counter with Adrian Peterson, who averaged 108.5 yards rushing in the past two home games.Minnesota (3-2-1) at New York Jets (3-3)The Vikings have never won at the Jets, going 0-5. To break that slump Jim Kelly Jerseys 2019 , the main weapon could be WR Adam Thielen. He had 11 catches for 123 yards last week, joining Houston’s Charley Hennigan (1961) as the only players in NFL history with 100 or more yards in each of his team’s first six games to begin a season. Thielen leads the NFL with 58 catches, the most by a player in the first six games in league history, and 712 yards receiving.Guess what: New York’s secondary is banged-up and porous. The Jets are seeking their first three-game winning streak since Weeks 3-5 of 2017.Los Angeles Rams (6-0) at San Francisco (1-5)Keeping the NFL’s only perfect record shouldn’t be too challenging for LA, which has the most dangerous offense around. RB Todd Gurley ran for a career-high 208 yards and two TDs last week. The Rams are averaging 32.7 points per game despite scoring TDs on only 56.7 percent of red-zone trips. Los Angeles also leads the NFL with 7.64 yards per play on first down.San Francisco blew a game at Green Bay last week and Niners QB C.J. Beathard is tied for the NFL worst with seven turnovers in the past three weeks since Jimmy Garoppolo tore up his knee. The Niners have an NFL-worst minus-11 turnover margin.New York Giants (1-5) at Atlanta (2-4), Monday nightMore injuries plagued the Falcons, who placed top running back Devonta Freeman on IR. No team has been more damaged by injuries in 2018, most of them coming on defense. That means Atlanta needs shootouts to have a chance most weeks, and QB Matt Ryan leads the NFL with 1,432 yards passing and a 128.2 rating since Week 3.He is tied for first with 12 TD passes in that span.New York’s D is vulnerable and the offense is enigmatic despite the presence of sensational rookie RB Saquon Barkley, and firebrand wideout Odell Beckham Jr. The O-line should be dubbed the “Awful-Line.”Detroit (2-3) at Miami (4-2)The Lions are feeling upbeat following a victory over Green Bay and a week off, but that special feeling could turn sour because of their special teams.Lions coverage units rank last on punts and sixth worst on kickoffs. The Dolphins rank second in kickoff return average and third in punt return average.Miami is no powerhouse, though. The Dolphins are tied for the AFC East lead even though they’ve been outgained by 398 yards.Cleveland (2-3-1) at Tampa Bay (2-3)The Dawg Pound was silenced in Cleveland when the Chargers pounded the Browns last week. Tampa will be hitting the airwaves, trying to find mismatches for WRs DeSean Jackson and Mike Evans. It won’t hurt the Bucs that Browns Pro Bowl MLB Joe Schobert is out with a hamstring injury. This will be his first game missed — at any level — due to injury. The Browns do lead the NFL with 16 takeaways, three more than all last season. Tampa has 11 giveaways.Buffalo (2-4) at Indianapolis (1-5)Remember Derek Anderson, most lately the backup to Newton in Carolina. He has surfaced as the new starter in Buffalo with rookie Josh Allen hurting and Nathan Peterman an interception machine. On the positive side, the Bills‘ defense is tied for the league lead with seven fumble recoveries. The Colts will try for the fifth time to win game No. 300 since moving to Indy in 1984. And placekicker Adam Vinatieri needs 10 points to break Morten Andersen’s scoring record (2,544 points).

or even the previous year — more than the Cleveland Browns. They get a chance to prove all of those offseason maneuvers paid off when they host their archrivals Genard Avery Color Rush Jersey , the Steelers, on Sunday. No, it’s not fair to fully judge Cleveland’s progress in the opener. It is tempting, though, considering how the roster has been revamped and the enthusiasm has been ramped up.“Honestly, I would rather not look back,” says Browns coach Hue Jackson, and why would he with a 1-31 record in charge? “I just feel really good about this group. We have to get ourselves ready to play. It is a big-time game this week. This is against the best team in our division. It is a huge game.”It also doesn’t hurt the Browns that Pittsburgh has been missing one of its best players, star running back and holdout Le’Veon Bell.Still, as Jackson notes, the Steelers have been the cream of the AFC North for a long time, while the Browns have been the downtrodden.Regardless of Bell’s status — James Conner is the backup — the Steelers have a dynamic offense thanks to receiver Antonio Brown, perhaps the NFL’s best player; quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, still a force in his 15th pro season; and a talented offensive line.“If we start off with James, I think we’ll be fine either way,” guard Ramon Foster says. “He’s a guy that’s made strides. He’s made us confident in him. So he gets the start, we roll with him. No disrespect to (Bell), we’ve got to move. This is a moving train.”The season opened Thursday night when the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles got past the Atlanta Falcons 18-12 in a sloppy, penalty-filled game.Jay Ajayi scored his second touchdown on an 11-yard run with 2:19 remaining, and the Eagles withstood a two-minute drive by Matt Ryan and the Falcons https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Austin-Corbett-Jersey , with Julio Jones failing to come down with Ryan’s high pass on the final play from the 5-yard line. The game was marred by penalties, dropped passes, missed assignments and weak quarterbacking. Foles threw for 117 yards and an interception, and Ryan completed less than 50 percent of his passes. Neither threw for a touchdown.San Francisco at MinnesotaYes, quarterbacks get too much attention these days. Still, this is one game where they have to be the focal point. The Vikings spent about the entire budget of the state of Minnesota on Kirk Cousins after he played two seasons under the franchise tag in Washington. So while the return of rookie sensation (until he hurt his knee) Dalvin Cook to the backfield is quite intriguing, most eyes will be on how Cousins fares with far more talent around him.San Francisco was in QB purgatory a year ago, then pulled off an October deal for Jimmy Garoppolo. The youngster who hasn’t lost in seven career starts, got a huge contract, too. He’ll face one of the NFL’s toughest defenses in this one.New York Jets at Detroit, Monday nightOK, excuse us if, one more time, we concentrate on the quarterback. This one is Sam Darnold , the only member of the five first-round passers in this year’s draft who will get a start. He has poise, lots of arm talent and escapability.Of course, he’s also a J-E-T-S QB; the last true franchise guy they had was Joe Namath.“I know that just because I got named the starter doesn’t mean we won the game Monday night,” the Southern Cal product says. “It’s awesome and I’m really happy to be the starting quarterback, but I also know that I’ve got to go out there and do my job.”He’ll try to do it against new Lions coach Matt Patricia’s defensive acumen. Patricia comes from New England, so the pedigree is impressive.Los Angeles Rams at Oakland Nick Chubb Jersey , Monday nightAnother 2018 newcomer — actually a returning megastar — is Raiders coach Jon Gruden. Enticed out of the ESPN broadcast booth, given full reign in Oakland along with major money, Gruden already has flexed his power by trading away the Raiders’ best player, pass rusher supreme Khalil Mack .That probably won’t temper the rabidness in the Black Hole for the opener. What might is a Rams club with perhaps the most talented roster in the NFL, led by DT Aaron Donald and RB Todd Gurley.Cincinnati at IndianapolisAnother key returnee (and, yeah, a QB) is Andrew Luck for the Colts. A shoulder injury that some claim was misdiagnosed, others say was mishandled, sidelined him for all of 2017. When healthy, he is elite, although the roster under new coach Frank Reich appears anything but.Cincinnati brought back Marvin Lewis, the second-longest tenured coach in the NFL, and also re-signed its top two defenders, Carlos Dunlap and Geno Atkins. They’ll try to wreak havoc on Luck.Tennessee at MiamiMike Vrabel won three Super Bowls as a linebacker and sometime TD-catching receiver. He takes over a Titans squad that made the playoffs and upset Kansas City last winter, and seeks to build on such success in the rugged AFC South. Look for RB Derrick Henry to be the workhorse on offense and CB Malcolm Butler trying to show he deserved to play for the Patriots in their Super Bowl loss to Philadelphia. The Dolphins‘ season could depend on how much Frank Gore has left as a ball carrier. Gore is closing in on fourth place on the career rushing list, seemingly Hall of Fame credentials.Washington at ArizonaLike Patricia and, to a lighter extent Vrabel, new Cardinals coach Steve Wilks made his reputation as a defensive coordinator with Carolina. One thing for sure, he will have the Cardinals playing a more physical style than in recent seasons. On offense, he gets back fantasy football go-to David Johnson at running back. With the Cousins years over Chad Thomas Color Rush Jersey , Alex Smith was acquired and will make few mistakes at quarterback. He doesn’t have a ton to work with, unless recently signed Adrian Peterson still excels. Don’t bet against Peterson.Jacksonville at New York GiantsGiants owner John Mara calls what happened to his club last season “a perfect storm.” New York tried to right the ship by hiring Pat Shurmur as coach and Dave Gettleman as general manager. If the Giants are healthy and second overall draft pick Saquon Barkley is the second coming of LT — LaDainian Tomlinson, not Lawrence Taylor — this could be a dangerous team. The first test is massive, in great part because after being 10 minutes from making the Super Bowl, the Jags are among the AFC favorites. Even spicier: Tom Coughlin, who led the Giants to two titles as coach and now oversees Jacksonville’s football operations, returns to the Meadowlands.Chicago at Green BayTalk about adding some spice, that’s exactly what Mack will do for the Monsters of the Midway. It might not happen Sunday night at Lambeau Field; let the standout defender get into football shape first.Chicago hired Chiefs offensive guru Matt Nagy as coach, but it’s Mack and the D that likely will carry the Bears. No question who will carry the Packers. Aaron Rodgers returns from his shoulder woes that derailed the 2017 season. Of primary interest could be his hookups with tight end Jimmy Graham, who needs to return to elite status after several down years.Houston at New EnglandWhat could be a highly revealing matchup for the first weekend of the schedule.Like so many teams, the Texans are hoping to stay away from the injury bug that ruined them last season. Getting back J.J. Watt, probably the best defensive player the NFL has seen in the past half-dozen years, and Whitney Mercilus is huge. So is having Deshaun Watson at quarterback after his sensational rookie performances before wrecking his knee.More than ever, the spotlight in New England will be on defensive improvement. Unless age catches up to him — and he plans to play until he is 45 — Tom Brady at 41 remains the Michael Jordan/Wayne Gretzky of football.Tampa Bay at New OrleansThe Saints are looking pretty jazzy after strong drafts and personnel moves helped them nearly make the NFC title game last season. They had both top rookie award winners in RB Alvin Kamara and CB Marshon Lattimore, while Drew Brees probably will be setting more passing records at age 39.It’s hard to say the same about a Buccaneers squad that will have starting quarterback Jameis Winston suspended for three games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. Tampa Bay was very active in bulking up its defense, a must in the NFC South going against Brees, Matt Ryan and Cam Newton.Kansas City at Los Angeles ChargersA lot of love is being sent the Chargers’ way in their second season playing in a soccer stadium. Rightfully so given their strengths in the pass rush and with a balanced offense. Remember, they lost their first four games before winding up 9-7 and barely out of the postseason. Not so much love outside of Arrowhead Stadium is being tossed at the Chiefs, so a road win against the presumptive AFC West favorite would provide a massive boost. Coach Andy Reid has a way of winning with most any level of talent — at least in the regular season.Dallas at CarolinaThe big questions in Big D:—How much will having Zeke Elliott in the backfield all season make a difference?—Can Dak Prescott replicate his great rookie year with Elliott behind him?—Who will catch the ball with Jason Witten and Dez Bryant gone?—Other than a solid pass rush, what does Dallas have on defense? There are fewer queries in Carolina https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Antonio-Callaway-Jersey , though repeating 11-5 in the NFC South won’t likely get a division crown. Watch for RB Christian McCaffrey to truly break out.Seattle at DenverYeah, the teams that fought it out for the 2013 NFL crown now have that also-ran look. Roster makeovers are greatly to blame.Seattle’s once-masterful defense is in rebuild mode, while other than the superb Russell Wilson throwing to the superb Doug Baldwin, it’s hard to find much on offense to get excited about.Denver brought in Case Keenum after he quarterbacked Minnesota to the NFC championship game in his first real shot at being the starter. It’s the Orange Crush defense, however, that will need to sway games for the Broncos.Buffalo at BaltimoreSorry, but we’ll finish with more quarterback stuff. This could have been a glimpse of two April first-rounders, Buffalo’s Josh Allen against Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson. Both will ride the bench, though, and at least in the Bills’ case it’s understandable. Coach Sean McDermott probably didn’t want Allen making a debut against the Ravens‘ aggressive and powerful defense. Running back Kareem Hunt was cleared to start practicing at training camp over the weekend, but the groin injury that kept him off the field last week wasn’t the only topic of conversation when he met the media on Monday.Hunt was asked about an incident at a Cleveland bar earlier this summer that resulted in a conversation with police that was caught on video. Hunt spoke to the Browns about it at the time and General Manager John Dorsey said that they do not expect any league discipline as a result. On Monday, Hunt said he will “lay low and just continue to work to be a better person” after an incident he called a misunderstanding.“I appreciate that the Browns still have my back,” Hunt said, via Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan. “It was just something that was a misunderstanding. I know I can’t have that, so I look to move forward and continue bettering myself.”Hunt will be serving an eight-game suspension to open the year as a result of another incident that included video of him kicking and shoving a woman. He was released by the Chiefs when that video surfaced last year and signed by the Browns in February.

As it turns out Justin Vogel Jersey , not having healthy wide receivers is an impediment to professional offense. The good news for the Eagles is they may be getting one back this week.Via Dave Zangaro of NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com, Eagles coach Doug Pederson said he’s optimistic about the chance of veteran wideout Alshon Jeffery returning for Thursday’s game against the Packers.“I’m hoping that he’s ready to go,” Pederson said Monday. “We’ll see this week. We’ve got a couple days. Walkthrough later today, we’ll get the guys in here. We’re hoping he’s ready to go.”Jeffery suffered a calf injury early in the loss to Atlanta last Sunday, and was out yesterday, along with DeSean Jackson. Jackson doesn’t appear as close to a return, but the Eagles will take what they can get. While they liked the depth offered by Nelson Agholor, Mack Hollins, and JJ Arcega-Whiteside, missing a pair of starters at any position will impact any team. The Packers put a premium on youth and athletic ability again on Thursday night, selecting Michigan edge rusher Rashan Gary with the 12th overall pick and trading up from 30 to 21 for Maryland safety Darnell Savage, Jr.Both players are just 21 years old and both are exceptional athletes at their positions, so the picks make sense. Furthermore, both are versatile players, capable of lining up in multiple different spots. The challenge now is for Mike Pettine and his defensive coaching staff to figure out how and where to play them.As round two begins, the team’s focus will likely shift over to the offense. There are several talented pass-catchers and offensive linemen available, which could benefit the Packers. to run the team’s football operations. It’s unclear whether Manning would be interested. Possibly Marlon Mack Jersey , there’s something that could make him interested. An offer he couldn’t refuse. So what would it take to get Manning to say “yes” to the Jets? We spent some time spitballing about that on Monday’s .My seat-of-the-pants, it-ain’t-my-money-so-I-can-be-generous-with-it dart-in-the-dark was $20 million per year plus two percent of the franchise’s equity. At an estimated value of $2.9 billion, Manning’s share of the team would be worth another $58 million, and that number would undoubtedly keep growing and growing.Would Manning be worth it? Yes. He’s destined to thrive at whatever he eventually chooses to do, and if/when he begins to run a team he will throw everything he has into it.Which means that it will be critical for him to be ready to make the leap when he does it. And he may not be ready for that.$20 million per year plus two percent of the equity could make him get ready. Or it could make him realize that, whenever he decides to run a team, that’s the kind of package that will be available to him. While it may seem like a lot of money Quenton Nelson Color Rush Jersey , a great executive or coach continues to have a much greater potential impact on an NFL team than a great player. With $20 million per year now middle of the pack for quarterbacks, $20 million per year for Manning would be a bargain, if he ends up being as good for a football franchise as many presume he will be. Police in Indianapolis are investigating a Mother’s Day shooting that resulted in over 80 shots being fired at the home of Colts head coach Frank Reich’s assistant Parks Frazier.Neither Frazier nor anyone else was injured in the shooting, which witnesses say was carried out by eight men who got out of three cars outside of the house. Per a report from WTHR, the street outside the house was littered with shell casings from five different handguns and rifles.“About five minutes until six, I was in the kitchen trying to fix myself a little meal,” one of Frazier’s neighbors told the station. “All at once boom https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Andrew-Luck-Jersey , boom, boom! It was very loud, and it sounded like it was tearing up my house.”The Colts had no comment beyond saying they were glad that Frazier was not harmed. Police have not made any arrests, but they recovered a cellphone from the street that they believe belonged to one of the shooters.

to trade wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the Browns comes after saying repeatedly that that wasn’t his plan.In January Trevon Coley Color Rush Jersey , Gettleman said, “We didn’t sign him to trade him.”In February, Gettleman said, “We didn’t sign Odell to trade him. That’s all I need to say about that.”In March, Gettleman traded Beckham. The decision to sign Beckham to a huge contract, pay him $21.459 million for one season https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Duke-Johnson-Jersey , and then trade him seven months later doesn’t make a lot of sense, and Giants fans are eager to hear Gettleman’s explanation.Gettleman’s explanation is likely that he had to say he wasn’t trading Beckham to drive up the trade market. The Steelers made it clear that they were trading Antonio Brown and ended up getting only a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick. The Giants got a first-round pick, a third-round pick and Jabrill Peppers for Beckham. But the question remains why Gettleman wanted to trade Beckham at all. Beckham was by far the best player on the roster Gettleman inherited when he took over the Giants. Draft a franchise quarterback and pair him with Beckham, and the Giants could build a great team for years to come. Instead, Gettleman has done what he said he wouldn’t do, and the Giants are rebuilding from the bottom. The Browns got some good news Greg Joseph Jersey , after a scary day.The team announced that defensive end Chad Thomas had been released from the hospital, and has been diagnosed with a neck strain. He was immobilized and carted off the field during practice today, and taken directly to the hospital. But the team has already declared his practice status would be evaluated on a day-to-day basis, so the news is clearly better than feared at first.According to Mary Kay Cabot of the , Thomas was likely to join the team in Indianapolis for joint practices against the Colts, though his status for those practices is unclear.Browns coach Freddie Kitchens gathered the team together after the practice to update players before continuing practice Jabrill Peppers Color Rush Jersey , while acknowledging it changed the intensity of the work.“It does, but in our game, that’s reality,’’ Kitchens said. “Sometimes that happens during the course of a game and mentally we’ve got to keep moving forward. https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Geronimo-Allison-Jersey , the NFL is able to play a few games on Saturdays. Week 15 sees a pair of pro games taking place on Saturday, as a foursome of AFC teams are in action today.Only one appears headed for the playoffs, as the Houston Texans appear to be in solid command of the AFC South. They are traveling to the East Coast this week, however, taking on the 4-9 Jets in the Meadowlands in today’s early game. Then in the evening we have the Browns and Broncos, two teams sitting below .500. The Browns still have something to play for, however; because of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ recent collapses, there is still a pathway for Cleveland to win the division by winning out and finishing 8-7-1. The Browns have not beaten Denver in any of their past 11 tries, but perhaps there’s something different about this team now that Hue Jackson is gone.Tune in throughout the afternoon and evening and join us in the comments as we follow along with today’s games.Houston Texans vs. New York Jets4:30 PM Eastern TimeMetLife StadiumEast Rutherford, NJNFL NetworkCommentators: Curt Menefee, Nate Burleson, Steve Mariucci, Melissa StarkCleveland Browns at Denver Broncos6:20 PM Mountain Time (8:20 PM ET)Broncos Stadium at Mile HighDenver, CONFL NetworkCommentators: Mike Tirico, Kurt Warner, Peter Schrager For the first time in years, Aaron Rodgers, the swaggering superhero quarterback, looked defeated. Standing at the podium following another second-half collapse in which the Green Bay Packers’ offense stalled and sputtered, the all-time great talked about the color changing in his beard and the ravages of time. This wasn’t the same player who used to run around throwing the championship belt at opposing sidelines, or who brought grape soda to press conference to troll the Vikings. This version of Rodgers, nearly 35, battled injuries for the second season in a row and hasn’t played to his lofty standards. There was no R-E-L-A-X or Run the Table鈩?talk. His eyes glossy and his voice wavering, it was fair to wonder who that quarterback was. It sure as hell wasn’t Aaron Freaking Rodgers. The same can be said for Rodgers on the field this season, where losing his running ability neutered his playmaking. His footwork deteriorated and even from clean pockets, and he is throwing off his back foot. At times, Rodgers looked more worried about not taking a hit to his knees than making a play, reminiscent of his 2015 season when the offensive line struggled and his receivers couldn’t get open. Those wounds carried into the 2016 season until he found his footing Oren Burks Jersey , literally and figuratively, for the stretch run. Rodgers, and more importantly the Packers, need that inflection point this offseason. Reset the quarterback, get him re-focused, re-engaged, and re-stocked with talent. Too often this season, Rodgers simply looked dejected whether it was playcalls, receiver miscues or his own mortality and fallibility. In order to finish his career with a stretch worthy of his talents, Green Bay must make him its priority. If that seems weird to say about a team that just paid him the biggest contract in NFL history, let’s remember money doesn’t buy football happiness. In fact, the huge contract impairs the team’s ability to pay for those around him. Brian Gutekunst brought in weapons with Jimmy Graham and the trio of rookie receivers, but injuries to Geronimo Allison and Randall Cobb robbed those smaller moves of any kind of big impact. Davante Adams and Aaron Jones represent a starting point, but they aren’t enough. That said, it’s hard to look at what the Saints are doing in New Orleans for example and feel like the Packers shouldn’t be similarly explosive. Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara aren’t so much better than the Green Bay duo that it should make up for the difference in consistency and continuity. No, the difference is the coach. Rodgers’ issues with Mike McCarthy go back several years and it’s clear this team’s future lies with a different person in charge. Mark Murphy shouldn’t prioritize offensive scheme over all else; personality, culture, and team management all still matter for this team. But there’s no single factor the Packers should consider more than a new coach’s potential impact on Rodgers. There’s fitting symmetry here. McCarthy came to the Packers in the back nine of Brett Favre’s career with that Hall of Fame quarterback sliding into bad habits and playing uninspired ball. McCarthy refocused Favre, putting together in 2007 a spread attack similar to the one New England used that season to go 18-1, and took that team to the NFC Championship Game.Meanwhile, he mentored Rodgers, helping him revamp his mechanics and putting him through a quarterback school that has long been the envy of the league. That’s what the Packers need once again. Rodgers’ footwork degrades by the day. His confidence, particularly for a player whose arrogance and self-belief is a fundamental part of his greatness, must be rebuilt, and that starts with having faith in the plan. It’s harder to step into a throw with conviction when you’re not convinced at the snap the play will work. How can Rodgers be Rodgers, in all of his self-assured glory, if he’s not actually sure what he’s doing is going to work? At a certain point, he will start to wonder if he’s as good as he thinks Marquez Valdes-Scantling Jersey , which appears to be the unfortunate point at which this team currently finds itself. A coach like Josh McDaniels, himself arrogant and self-assured in the way the great ones often are, brings the bona fides of running one of the most adaptive, creative offenses in football, as well as the experience of handling an all-time great quarterback. Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers have seen everything, done everything. They need someone who knows how to communicate, hold them accountable, and still find new ways to engage them. Rodgers, one of the brightest minds the game has ever seen, has said he wants to be coached hard. McCarthy clearly hasn’t found ways to keep him engaged, to the point Rodgers admitted to Josh Rosen he has to basically goof around in practice just to stay mentally sharp. Tom Brady gets coached hard in New England and it’s made him better. Rodgers needs that kind of attention. He welcomes it. That could be enough. Geronimo Allison gets healthy, Equanimeous St. Brown and/or Marquez Valdes-Scantling take that Year 2 leap and this team takes off with a re-engaged Rodgers and a more modern scheme. Brian Gutekunst has to make sure. That means plugging the leak at right guard and finding better swing tackles as Bryan Bulaga and David Bakhtiari age. Robert Tonyan may have a future as a move tight end, but with Marcedes Lewis and Lance Kendricks set to be free agents, the Packers could use a more impactful player next to Jimmy Graham. And while EQ and MVS have each flashed this season, banking on them to develop may simply be leaving too much to chance. Find a veteran receiver, even if it’s not a star player. Look what Rodgers was able to do back in ‘15 with James Jones, a player who simply knew where to be, where to go, and when. A new offense could mitigate the need for such precision. Brady, of the course of his career, throws to more wide open receivers than just about anyone in football. Someone like McDaniels could make everyone better. But there’s no room for error as Rodgers’ beard grays. Defensive centerpieces like Jaire Alexander and Kenny Clark offer a good start on defense. Kevin King, Josh Jackson, Blake Martinez, and even Kyler Fackrell offer hope for that side of the ball moving forward. Re-signing Bashaud Breeland could give the team the flexibility to move Jackson to safety. Drafting a pass rusher early and signing at least one other impact defensive player should give this defense enough of a boost. As Rodgers pointed out Sunday, the defense played well enough to win. The offense didn’t hold up its end. That can’t be acceptable with the best quarterback in the game under center. Mark Murphy and Brian Gutekunst need to do everything in their power to reassert Rodgers as the game’s preeminent player by putting him in a much better position to succeed. For years, he kept this team going on sheer talent and force and will. The league’s too talented and well coached now for that to be enough as Rodgers’ physical abilities begin to waen. Rather than Rodgers elevating a flawed team, it’s time for the team to start doing some lifting of its own.

formational adjustments the Seattle Seahawks made agains the Carolina Panthers that eased the pre-snap reads Alex McGough Color Rush Jersey , one of the commenters noted that the Panthers had a very good run defense figured out. In fact, the Panthers run defense was very good the entire day, and if not for multiple broken tackles by Chris Carson would have been even better. That said, Chris Carson is an absolute beast of a man, and while he lacks the top-end speed to break big plays, his size, strength and athleticism allow him to be among the best in the league at generating yards after contact. To show just how good Carson is at generating yards after contact, here’s a glimpse into thethe three carries he had on Sunday against the Panthers on which he rushed for more than 10 yards. I’ll start with his 12 yard run late in the third quarter. This is what the play looked like just after Carson took the handoff. The unblocked defensive end, Bryan Cox Jr.,is easy to see, and he would likely have an easy takedown of Carson, if Carson weren’t so strong. In the next picture it is visible that because the defensive end tried to tackle Carson high and Carson is simply extremely strong, he was able to stay on his feet. In that picture, it’s as clear as day that Cox is trying to tackle Carson by the top of his shoulder. That probably works to bring down most NFL running backs, but because of his size and the fact that he has his left arm underneath the tackle, Carson is able to shake the tackle off and go for a gain of 12. Moving to his next big run Byron Maxwell Color Rush Jersey , Carson went for fifteen earlier in the third quarter on the play which gained the most attention because of his full flip. In any case, that play was facilitated once again by a combination of Carson’s athleticism and skill and a veteran move by D.J. Fluker. Let’s start with the all-22 view where we see Carson just after he’s taken the ball from Russell Wilson. Everything is kind of small in that picture, so Carson is the Seahawk with a black arrow pointing at his head. It’s pretty evident that there are two Panthers defenders closing in on him, so let’s see how he was able to turn that into fifteen yards. In the second image we see Carson slipping to the inside and working to break a tackle attempt by Luke Kuechly, who Fluker may or may not be holding. Obviously the Seahawks have seen ticky tack holding calls disrupt drives so far this season, and it appears as though the refs could have called it again on this play. In any case, Carson springs free for 15 yards on this attempt. Now, for those readers who are contemplating heading straight to the comments to complain about how this is not holding, and holding could be called on every play and it should just be legalized by the league, let me go ahead and just post one more picture to show just how easily this could have drawn a flag. And there, circled in red, we can see a large part of why Carson was able to slip past Kuechly and into the second level - Fluker is holding one of Kuechly’s arms. Does Kuechly make that tackle if he actually has use of both arms? I don’t know, but I am certain that if Matt Breida or Jeff Wilson pick up 15 yards on a running play on a drive that ends in a field goal in a three point game while Bobby Wagner is getting one arm held, Seahawks fans would be fuming. In any case, moving on to Carson’s third run that gained double digits, this one is all effort from the Hawks young running back. Here’s what the play looked like shortly after Carson took the handoff. I mean Sebastian Janikowski Color Rush Jersey , I suppose we could credit the offensive line for allowing Carson to pick up 16 yards on that play, but in my opinion it certainly wasn’t the blocking that created a chunk gain on that play. Now, before anyone gets too ready to pull the trigger and call me out for being negative on the run game, let me go ahead and show a handful of plays where the line blocked great. The plays I’ve looked at I’ve chosen because they are great individual efforts by Carson, but I know fans are going to take them as an assault on the Hawks line. So, here are a couple of plays where the line generated a couple big holes. Woo boy. Look at the size of that running lane. As I watched this unfold I thought Carson might have had a chance to take it for an even bigger gain, but unfortunately the safety we see at midfield was able to step up and make the tackle. Moving to the critical fourth and short play late in the game on which Seattle brought in George Fant as a sixth lineman, we see that the line blocked inside to create a great hole.Unfortunately for Seattle fans, Kuechly diagnosed the play and rapidly filled the hole.Fortunately for Seattle fans Carson is big enough and strong enough that he pushed forward enough for the first down. In short, when these two trains collided, Carson won. In short, if that’s Eddie Lacy or Thomas Rawls carrying the ball in 2017, I don’t think either of them pick up the first down, even with the line having created that hole because Kuechly probably drives either one of them backwards. Carson is, simply put, a beast on the field and his ability to both avoid and break tackles has certainly helped the Seahawks run game through the first eleven games of the season. Now Dontae Johnson Color Rush Jersey , had that been Bobby Wagner in the hole, Wagner stops Carson for a loss and it would have been a turnover on downs, but that’s because Wagner is better than Kuechly, which is a different story for a different day. To close out, let me finish with a play that was a great success for both the line and Carson, his one yard touchdown run in the second quarter. He hits the hole as 55 is able to reach up and try to stop him, but that arm tackle is quickly brushed aside, and he powers through the defensive back (24) stepping up a moment too late. Yep, folks, that’s a nice hole in the red zone, something that the heavier reliance on power blocking has created several times this season. I’ll look at that in more detail sometime down the road. For now, however, let’s all bask in the glow of having handed Carolina their first home loss of the season. After the Seahawks’ 24-13 victory over the Cowboys in Week Three, receiver Doug Baldwin said Seattle had diagnosed some of the Cowboys’ defensive play calls based on their hand signals. At the time, not much was made of it.But now that the teams play again in an even more important game, it seems Baldwin’s comment probably was unwise. The Cowboys now know what the Seahawks knew.Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Marinelli D.J. Fluker Color Rush Jersey , though, seems unconcerned with the Seahawks’ familiarity with Kris Richard or with their hand signals. Richard, the Cowboys’ defensive passing game coordinator and secondary coach, was fired as the Seahawks’ defensive coordinator after last season.“We know what we are,” Marinelli said. “That’s the biggest thing. They’ll know our package from ever. We don’t change a lot. It’s about execution. I really don’t care what they know. I care about how hard we play, our pad level, how we execute our different charges, how we tackle, all those things, while keeping the quarterback in the well, trying to dominate the pocket and then playing good coverage.“That’s all that’s concerning us. Nothing else matters to me.”Baldwin revealed a few days after the September game that practice squad members Alex McGough and Caleb Scott figured out some of the Cowboys’ defensive calls from their hand signals. The Seahawks used that knowledge on a 52-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to Tyler Lockett, according to Baldwin.

of Olivier Vernon and Sheldon Richardson." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesDawgs EDTShare this storyShare this on FacebookShare this on TwitterShareAll sharing optionsShareAll sharing options for:Hype building for Browns rebuilt defensive line TwitterFacebookRedditPocketFlipboardEmailCleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey has spent a considerable amount of time reworking the team’s defensive line. Last year’s roster cutdown saw the release of defensive ends Carl Nassib and Nate Orchard. This offseason saw the trade of defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah to the Kansas City Chiefs. The biggest moves came with the free agent signing of defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson and the trade for defensive end Olivier Vernon. Adding Richardson and Vernon to incumbent starters Myles Garrett and Larry Ogunjobi has helped add fuel to one of the most-hyped Browns team in decades and led NFL.com’s Chris Wesserling to select the group as the deepest defensive line in the league:Wesserling is not alone in buying into the potential along the defensive line. Michael Renner at Pro Football Focus ranked the league’s pass-rush units and the Browns check in at No. 3:Renner only put the Browns at No. 14 against the run Larry Ogunjobi Color Rush Jersey , but still pointed out the potential for that number to change:While hype is fun, results are far more important. And while it would be hard to argue that the starting unit along the defensive line is better, the depth is still a question. It doesn’t matter how talented Garrett, Ogunjobi, Richardson and Vernon are if the coaches are forced to play them too much because the backups are not up to the task. How the backups shake out on the defensive line will be something to keep a close eye on during training camp and the preseason. If they can hold their weight, then the defensive line should be able to live up to all the preseason hype. As NFL quarterbacks go, Kyler Murray is as little as they get. But that may not stop Murray from becoming the NFL’s next big thing. Whether he does lands at storyline No. 15 as the 2019 season appraoches. From the moment he chose football over baseball, Murray captured the imagination of scouts http://www.brownsfanshop.com/Sione-Takitaki-Jersey , coaches, players, and fans. In this golden age of quarterbacking, Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield became the darlings of the league in 2018, a year after Deshaun Watson was all the rage, until he suffered a torn ACL.Despite his (lack of) size, Murray brings an explosiveness that the league hasn’t seen since Mike Vick, but possibly with a better set of passing skills. While Murray may not be the next Mahomes Greedy Williams Jersey , Murray doesn’t need to be a 50-touchdown MVP to justify Arizona’s faith in him.Ulimately, it was an easy analysis. The Cardinals have struggled with young quarterbacks in recent years (decades), getting their best performances from veterans like Kurt Warner and Carson Palmer. Murray could be their first born-and-raised franchise quarterback since moving to the desert 31 years ago.Sure, there’s a chance he’ll be a bust. That he won’t be able to stay healthy once he’s hit hard by NFL-caliber defensive players. That his speed and other skills won’t translate to the pro game. The risk is worth it. And it’s far better to roll the dice on Murray and get it wrong than to pass on him and have him become a star player for someone else.If he becomes a star for the Cardinals, the NFC West becomes very interesting, perhaps before long the best division in the league.

But they started day two by turning their attention toward the offensive side, specifically the offensive line. With the 44th overall selection, the Packers landed center Elgton Jenkins, who played multiple positions on the line in his college career. For Mississippi State, Jenkins started all 26 games at center over his final two years in Starkville after making starts at left tackle (5), left guard (2), and right tackle (1) in his first two collegiate seasons. A low-end three-star recruit out of high school, Jenkins’ grit and perseverance paid big dividends in ultimately becoming a second-round draft pick.At 6-foot-4 and 310 pounds, Jenkins offers good size for the interior line positions. He did not run the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, but he posted the seventh-best bench press number among all offensive linemen (29) and is lauded for his ability to anchor down. Jenkins’ hand placement and ability to gain leverage is efficient despite not having elite athleticism. Interestingly enough, new Packers quarterbacks coach Luke Getsy spent time in Starkville last season as offensive coordinator & wide receivers coach https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Geronimo-Allison-Jersey , and was given a first-hand look at Jenkins.Curiously, Jenkins was announced at the draft podium as a guard despite catching the attention of NFL scouts for his play at center. Without a clear backup to Corey Linsley on the Packers’ roster, Jenkins will instantly provide a second-string option at the position and may be able to challenge newcomer Billy Turner for snaps at right guard. However, right guard is the one position on the line in which Jenkins has not made a start and it has been quite awhile since he saw consistent action at tackle to be counted on there. Still, Jenkins boasts plenty of SEC starting experience on his resume to be a quick contributor.Although Green Bay was able to add last year’s fifth-round pick Cole Madison back to the roster this month, it did not deter the Packers from bolstering the interior line’s depth early in the draft. After watching the Minnesota Vikings select NC State’s Garrett Bradbury in the first round yesterday, Green Bay drafted the second center of the draft just four selections before Texas A&M’s Erik McCoy was chosen by the New Orleans Saints.Barring a trade, the Packers will be back on the clock at pick 75 in the third round. For the 2019 season, the team appears to be setting a new franchise record in terms of total money paid out in this manner.Last season, the Packers paid out about $4.7 million in bonuses Oren Burks Jersey , while 2017 was a bit higher at just over $4.9 million. However, in 2019, the Packers are due to pay out a total of $5,755,500 in workout bonuses, which will go to 20 members of the team’s 90-man roster. For the most part, these players were signed as free agents or negotiated contract extensions with the team over the past several years, as the inclusion of this clause has been a key component to the team’s strategy. The effect of these bonuses is to effectively guarantee veterans’ attendance at the voluntary portion of the offseason workouts, which includes spring conditioning and OTA practices, the latter of which began on Monday.Interestingly, the two highest workout bonus numbers belong to two of the newest Packers Marquez Valdes-Scantling Jersey , not the highest-paid person on the roster. Indeed, Aaron Rodgers’ workout bonus of half a million dollars is tied for third, coming in behind the two edge rushers the team signed as free agents. Za’Darius Smith takes the top spot among all players with a reported $750k bonus while Preston Smith’s bonus is just a bit less at $650k. The next tier of players includes Rodgers and new Packer safety Adrian Amos, who along with Davante Adams and David Bakhtiari will get a cool $500k apiece this offseason. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Packers have been able to include workout bonuses in several third-round draft picks’ contracts in recent years. The three such players remaining on the roster — Oren Burks, Montravius Adams, and Kyler Fackrell — all have modest bonuses, coming in between $15k and $25k apiece. This is likely one of the sticking points with tight end Jace Sternberger, this year’s third-round pick and the only player in the Packers’ draft class who has yet to sign his contract. Here’s a complete look at all of the bonuses on this year’s schedule, with numbers from Overthecap.com:2019 Workout BonusesPlayerPositionWorkout BonusPlayerPositionWorkout Bonus

FRISCO Alex McGough Color Rush Jersey , Texas (AP) — Ezekiel Elliott won his second NFL rushing title in three seasons for a Dallas offense that has been defined by the ground game for several years now.Seattle takes the league’s No. 1 rushing offense into a wild-card playoff against the Cowboys on Saturday night, led by Chris Carson, but with more help from others than your average pro backfield .While receiver Amari Cooper’s impact on the Dallas passing game was dramatic following a midseason trade, and Seattle’s Russell Wilson again finished among the NFL leaders in touchdowns passing, both teams figure to try to control the second postseason meeting between these franchises with their running backs.“We have a formula here,” said Dallas right guard Zack Martin, who has made the Pro Bowl in all five of his seasons. “Usually if we win a game, we kind of stick to that formula. It’s always a tough game against those guys. It’s kind of a bone-on-bone game. We’ve got our work cut out for us.”Elliott finished with 1,434 yards while setting a club record for catches by a running back with 77, one more than Herschel Walker 32 years ago. His 2,001 yards from scrimmage were second to New York Giants rookie Saquon Barkley. The 23-year-old former Ohio State star had the first 40-touch game of his career, a 29-23 overtime win against defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia that all but wrapped up the NFC East for the Cowboys (10-6).With the fourth seed in the playoffs locked up, the Cowboys sat Elliott in the regular-season finale against the New York Giants. Dak Prescott showcased his passing game with a rally for a 36-35 win, but that’s unlikely to be the way Dallas advances in the postseason.“Knowing going into these playoffs I’m going to have probably the heaviest workload I’ve had all season,” Elliott said, “so great getting fresh and ready going into this last stretch of the season and ready for what they throw at me.”The Seahawks (10-6) will throw multiple backs at the Cowboys, starting with Carson. With 1,151 yards rushing, Carson became the club’s first 1,000-yard rusher since Marshawn Lynch on Seattle’s most recent Super Bowl qualifier in 2014.Throw in Mike Davis (514 yards), Rashaad Penny (419) and Wilson (376), and the Seahawks have the first backfield with a 1,000-yard rusher and three with at least 300 yards since the 2001 Pittsburgh Steelers.Seattle is averaging 160 yards rushing per game, while Dallas finished the regular season ranked 10th at 123.“The offensive line has just really come into their own — No. 1 rush team in the NFL for us, which is something that we really wanted to do is to run the ball this year and also play-action and do our thing Byron Maxwell Color Rush Jersey ,” Wilson said. “Those guys have been a big, big thing for us.”Carson, a second-year back drafted in the seventh round, had his first 100-yard game with 102 yards on a career-high 32 carries in the first meeting with Dallas this season, a 24-13 Seattle victory in Week 3 after the Seahawks had started 0-2.While the Cowboys let Seattle control the game with its rushing attack, they still held Carson to 3.2 yards per carry, his lowest average of the season. Defense kept Dallas in the game despite one of the worst offensive showings of the season.“So much of this is about us and what we need to do to play good run defense,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. “It’s about us being fundamentally sound and being physical and being in our gaps and setting edges and running to the ball and being a great tackling team regardless of who they hand it to or what kind of runs they use.”There isn’t much mystery in who will get the handoffs for the Cowboys. Elliott carried 304 times, 18 fewer than when he led the league in rushing as a rookie in 2016. Backup Rod Smith had just 44 rushes, 12 of those when Elliott sat against the Giants.Really, the No. 2 running option for Dallas is quarterback Dak Prescott, who has six rushing TDs in each of his three regular seasons. While the Cowboys have been at their best when Prescott shows the running threat, they will spend plenty of time trying to establish Elliott early.“The ball is in his hands most of the time,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. “I don’t know him at all, but I am sure he’s a great competitor, he just plays like it. It all matters to him and there’s an intensity about his play that has made him already a significant player in the league.” Read!" Saturday night Baker Mayfield Color Rush Jersey , with players and personnel from across the league in attendance. Steve Harvey was the host, and with him being from Cleveland, the Browns were featured prominently in the opening monologue. His stuff about Cleveland began with a brief shoutout to Jim Brown and the last time he saw a Championship in 1964:That was followed by Harvey calling out the turnaround of the Browns, led by QB Baker Mayfield, RB Nick Chubb, and WR Jarvis Landry:From the Browns, QB Baker Mayfield was the only player up for an award. Two former assistant coaches also received consideration for assistant coach of the year. Here are the awards for the NFL, as announced by the Associated Press.Offensive Rookie of the Year: The winner is Giants RB Saquon Barkley, who had 26.5 votes. The other people who got votes were Browns QB Baker Mayfield (21.5), and Colts OG Quenton Nelson (2).Defensive Rookie of the Year: The winner is Colts LB Darius Leonard, who had 29 votes. The other people who got votes were Chargers S Derwin James (20) and Broncos DE Bradley Chubb (1).Assistant Coach of the Year: The winner is former Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, who had 25 votes. The other people who got votes were Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus (7) https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Emmanuel-Ogbah-Jersey , Seahawks offensive line coach Mike Solari (2), former Browns offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens (2), Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer (1), former Browns defensive coordinator Gregg Williams (1), Colts offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo (1), Cowboys defensive coordinator Kris Richard (1), and Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen (1)..Coach of the Year: The winner is Bears HC Matt Nagy who had 24 votes. The other people who got votes were Chargers HC Anthony Lynn (10), Colts HC Frank Reich (8), Chiefs HC Andy Reid (5), Seahawks HC Pete Carroll (2), and Saints HC Sean Payton (1).Defensive Player of the Year: The winner is Rams DT Aaron Donald, who had 45 votes. The other person who got votes was Bears DE Khalil Mack (5).Offensive Player of the Year: The winner is Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Denzel Ward Jersey , who had 30 votes. The other people who got votes were Saints QB Drew Brees (16), Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins (2), and Rams RB Todd Gurley (2).Comeback Player of the Year: The winner is Colts QB Andrew Luck, who had 44 votes. The other people who got votes were Texans DE J.J. Watt (4) and Redskins RB Adrian Peterson (2).Most Valuable Player:The winner is Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, who had 41 votes. The other person who got votes was Saints QB Drew Brees (9).Hall of Fame Class of 2019 The Cleveland Browns special teams were anything but during the 2018 NFL season. Starting in Week 1 - when the Browns had a game-winning field goal blocked in overtime - and continuing through the season’s final game, it was a weekly lowlight show of penalties, missed assignments and general nonsense. So it should come as no surprise that Pro Football Focus ranked the Browns special teams unit as the league’s worst in 2018.The ranking also has Browns fans continuing to ponder just why special teams coordinator Amos Jones still has a job (and why he was hired in the first place).Jones came to Cleveland after spending the previous five years as the special teams coordinator with the Arizona Cardinals, who decided not to renew his contract after the 2017 season. During his time in Arizona, the special teams units were near the bottom of the league’s rankings on an annual basis. How bad was it? ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss detailed a few “highlights” near the end of last season:Maybe former head coach Hue Jackson - who is statistically and unquestionably the worst head coach in the 99-year history of the NFL - believed that having Jones on staff would distract everyone from how bad Jackson is at his job. With the Browns signaling their intent to be a playoff contender in 2019, it seems extremely unlikely that they can live with Jones on the coaching staff much longer. On the bright side, who ever takes over has no where to go but up.

Last offseason JK Scott Jersey , when the Packers fired the maligned Dom Capers, Fangio was one of the candidates whom Green Bay most coveted. Once Mike McCarthy got his walking papers and the Bears defense dominated the Rams on national television, connecting the dots was easy. It’s just not the right move for the Packers. Of course, it hasn’t just been one game that makes Fangio an appealing option. He built a dominating 49ers defense during their mini-run with Jim Harbaugh, one that stymied Aaron Rodgers more than once. His work with sub-par talent early in his Chicago tenure deserves its own plaudits, but even with Khalil Mack, Fangio should be lauded for his work turning the Bears into a suffocating defense in an era where such things were thought to be impossible. Fangio is one of the NFL’s true mad scientists, happiest tinkering in the lab with ways to stop opposing offenses. He’s a little gruff, but not particularly outspoken and while he provides outstanding defensive coaching and scheme, there’s little evidence to suggest he’s the kind of alpha personality to come in and immediately demand the respect of a veteran football team set on winning a Super Bowl ASAMFP. Some have suggested the Packers need the new coach to inject accountability and discipline into the team, hold Aaron Rodgers to a higher standard and put his damn foot down. That’s not true. Mike McCarthy was an outstanding culture-setting coach and CEO of the Packers program. His voice simply ran its course. Fangio would likely represent a step back in terms of setting a Lombardi standard (as one former coach might put it). What the Packers need is a forward thinking coach with progressive ideologies about coaching, scheme, and personnel deployment. The calculation should be simple: the defense doesn’t have a coaching problem, it has a talent problem. The offense doesn’t have a talent problem, it has a coaching problem. So how does Fangio solve this exactly? If the answer to offensive stagnation is a hot young OC candidate, then just hire the offensive coach to begin with. More than likely the Zac Taylors of the world, even if successful, would be on their way to head coaching jobs in two years and then the team has to start over as Rodgers’ powers wain. What problem does Fangio solve that can’t be solved by Mike Pettine Brett Favre Color Rush Jersey , another year of continuity, and some improved talent? The 49ers had Patrick Willis, Justin Smith, Aldon Smith and a deep group of role players. The Bears have Khalil Mack, Akiem Hicks, Kyle Fuller and Eddie Jackson. That’s not underselling what Fangio has done, simply pointing out he’s been successful with more raw talent than the Packers currently have. A 60-year-old coordinator who hasn’t been an NFL head coach and doesn’t seem ideally suited from a personality standpoint to be one isn’t the answer to the Packers falling behind other top offenses with Aaron Rodgers. Fangio is closer to Social Security than a Super Bowl, making him a wonky fit on a team in need of an offensive overhaul. Pete Carroll is the oldest head coach in football and doesn’t suffer from a lack of foresight, but he was also a successful veteran coach with impossible reservoirs of energy when he got to Seattle. Replacing an old school coach with an old school coach to fix complacency in an old school way of doing business simply doesn’t follow. The culture isn’t broken in Green Bay, and even if it were, there’s little evidence to suggest Fangio could piece it back together. The whole defense, to a man, lauded Pettine for bringing accountability back in a post-Capers world. Is Fangio’s schematic advantage over Pettine so large that Mark Murphy and Gutekunst ought to eschew better offensive coaching options in the head spot? No way.Fangio’s defense should worry the Packers on Sunday when the team attempts to save its season and keep playoff hopes alive. But that’s not reason enough to hire him as the man to succeed Mike McCarthy. One thing is clear: the Packers saw Rashan Gary as a priority, not a consolation." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesHorizontal - WhiteAcme Packing Companya Green Bay Packers communityLog In or Sign UpLog InSign UpFanpostsFanshotsSectionsPackersOddsAboutMastheadCommunity GuidelinesStubHubMoreAll 322 blogs on Horizontal - WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections The APC PodcastPackers Film RoomFantasy Football AdviceCDTShareTweetShareSharePackers’ GM Brian Gutekunst was ‘locked in’ on Rashan Gary for monthsPhoto by Rey Del Rio/Getty ImagesWhen the pick came in at 12, the reaction was largely a sigh and an eyeroll from Green Bay Packers fans. After missing out on defensive tackle Ed Oliver and tight end T.J. Hockenson by a few picks, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst let the 10-minute clock run down for quite a while before turning in a card with the name “Rashan Gary” on it.Gary, an edge rusher from Michigan, was hardly what most Packers fans were hoping for https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Paul-Hornung-Jersey , particularly with Brian Burns and Montez Sweat still on the board. Those two players had much more consistent production in terms of sacks and tackles for loss than Gary, who had just 9.5 and 23, respectively, in his collegiate career. However, Gutekunst and Packers college scout Joe Hueber made it clear that Gary was not a knee-jerk pick that came as a result of the board falling differently than they had hoped. Not only did the Packers rate Gary highly on their draft board — he was in fact one of their highest priorities. “Locked in” is the phrase that Gutekunst used when speaking to the media late Thursday evening, using that to describe him being focused on acquiring Gary since all the way back in February — presumably around the time of the 2019 NFL Combine. As for the production questions, Gutekunst clearly is not concerned. “Production is just the way you look at it,” he said. “He affected the passer, he affected the game. At times he wrecked it.” That’s a good sign for a player whose primary purpose will be to disrupt the quarterback, at least as a rookie, and the personnel department clearly feels that there are reasons why his impact on games did not appear in the stat sheet.College scout Jue Hueber may have said it best: “He commanded a lot of attention at Michigan: double-teams, triple-teams, taking on the tight end. Really, you saw it in some of his teammates, they got freed up and they were able to get the production.” The plays that Gary put on tape were far more important than the numbers he put in the box score to the team. “When you watch him, he was all over the place, taking on these blocks and getting a lot of pressure too.”As a 6-foot-4-plus, 275-pound player Bart Starr Jersey , Gary would seem a bit big to be a conventional 3-4 outside linebacker, but Hueber confirmed that’s the position group he will start with when he shows up for work. Still, expect to see him lined up in a number of different places. “He’s a guy because of his size and speed and versatility, that you’d hope you can move him around the front,” Hueber said. “He’s done some stand-up stuff already. He’s a guy who’s had to play multiple positions and move around. Probably needs to learn some of the drop stuff but I think as far as rushing the passer goes, he’ll be ready.”Perhaps the biggest question about Gary, though, is the health of his shoulder. A labrum injury affected him throughout the 2018 season, but Gutekunst does not expect that to be an issue. “I felt very comfortable long term that issue is going to be resolved,” he told reporters, adding that he does not expect Gary to need surgery. Any such surgery would cost the top pick significant, valuable time in OTAs or training camp, so this indicates that he will be good to go for a full workload leading up to his rookie year.Ultimately, both Hueber and Gutekunst made it clear that the team viewed Gary as one of the best players in this year’s draft. Hueber said he felt that Gary was a top ten talent, while Gutekunst said he felt “very fortunate that (Gary) fell to 12.” Although Packers fans may question whether Gary was the right player for the Packers to select on Thursday night. no such questions appear to be present in the team’s personnel decision-makers. And frankly, that’s the way fans should want it to be.

EAST RUTHERFORD https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Andrew-Luck-Jersey , N.J. (AP) — Andrew Luck expects a lot more out of himself at this point in his career. He also figures the Indianapolis Colts would have had a few more wins right now.The losses are piling up, though, and a four-game skid had the quarterback pondering whether it’s tough finding the joy in football.“At times, especially when I do things — stupid is the only word that comes to mind,” Luck said after a 42-34 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday. “We do some silly things to ourselves, but when it comes to having fun playing, I’m having fun playing.”The results just haven’t been there yet for the Colts (1-5), who made a handful of mistakes in this one as their season begins to spiral.“It’s a bit frustrating,” Luck said. “I feel like a broken record, but talking about it, that’s the easy part. It’s doing it, living it, but I’m not discouraged.”Luck was 23 of 43 for 301 yards with touchdowns to Marcus Johnson, Eric Ebron, Erik Swoope and Chester Rogers, but he was also intercepted three times. The first came on the Colts’ second play of scrimmage when Morris Claiborne took a tipped pass 17 yards to the end zone to put Indianapolis in an early hole. The Colts turned the ball over four times, and the Jets (3-3) took advantage.“Unfortunately, it was kind of a similar formula,” coach Frank Reich said. “Just too many mistakes early.”The Colts were playing short-handed with several starters sidelined, including wide receiver T.Y. Hilton, defensive linemen Denico Autry and Margus Hunt, tight end Jack Doyle Josh Ferguson Jersey , safety Clayton Geathers and right tackle Denzelle Good.Despite that, Indianapolis was still in the game late. The Jets built a 30-13 lead early in the third quarter, but the Colts chipped away. Luck’s 2-yard TD pass to Swoope made it 33-27 just 8 seconds into the final period — plenty of time to turn things around.Instead, Jason Myers kicked three of his Jets-record seven field goals to make it a 15-point deficit late in the game. Luck connected with Rogers on a 17-yard touchdown with 1:51 left, but Rigoberto Sanchez’s onside kick was recovered by Neal Sterling and Sam Darnold took three kneel-downs to end it.“I can just say this at the onset: I believe in what we are doing,” Reich said. “I believe in our guys, but we just have to play better football. We started that game, just too many mistakes.”There were several dropped passes on both sides, but there were some egregious ones by the Colts that didn’t help Luck any.“It’s mental,” running back Marlon Mack said. “We just have to lock in and focus. Everyone here can catch. We just have to lock in and squeeze the ball.”Luck, however, refused to point any fingers at his receivers’ slippery hands.“I’ll be concerned about drops when I throw the perfect ball every time I drop back, and I certainly do not do that,” he said. “Those guys are going to keep grinding. I’m proud of them. I love going to work with them every day. It’s a great group.”Even with the early issues, the Colts actually led 13-10 in the second quarter after two field goals by Adam Vinatieri. But errors came into play again, and the Jets made the most of them.New York forced a turnover when Jamal Adams knocked the ball out of Robert Turbin’s hands and Jordan Jenkins recovered. Darnold converted two third-down plays on the ensuing drive to get the ball to the Colts 10. Darnold zipped a pass to Pryor in the front of the end zone for a 17-13 lead with 2:35 left before halftime.New York took advantage of another turnover when Luck’s pass to Ryan Grant deflected off the receiver’s hands and right to Avery Williamson, who returned the ball 31 yards to the Colts 22. That resulted in a 48-yarder by Myers that put New York in front 20-13.The Colts then quickly went three-and-out — and the Jets got the ball at their 28 with 42 seconds left before halftime. Darnold hit a series of passes and, with 18 seconds left, found Jermaine Kearse in the middle of the field for 23 yards. Myers booted a 32-yarder as time expired to put New York up 23-13.“We’re six games into this now,” Luck said. “No one is young in the NFL anymore. The Blazers took a 2-1 series lead in the best-of-7 series with an insane 140-137 win at the end of the fourth overtime. It’s the first time that an NBA playoff game has reached quadruple OT status since 1953, and now Portland is two wins away from an unlikely run to the Western Conference Finals.Among the 20,000+ fans in attendance was none other than Seattle Seahawks LB Shaquem Griffin, who was sat behind Denver’s bench, which also meant he was on the side of the court where Rodney Hood’s go-ahead three-pointer that gave Portland the lead for good.NBC Sports Northwest caught up with Griffin after the game for his reaction to that unbelievable thriller.“Oh man that game was awesome,” Griffin said. “The perfect game to come to. I’m gonna take the Blazers all the way, all day. You already know what time it is.”He also says he intends to attend game four on Sunday afternoon, as it’s “a good luck charm now.”Griffin isn’t the only Seahawk who has been at the Moda Center for an incredible Blazers victory. Left tackle Duane Brown was there when Damian Lillard sent the Oklahoma City Thunder (aka the Zombie Sonics) out of the playoffs with his 37-foot game-winner at the buzzer. Now I know that many of you have a bitter taste in your mouths regarding the NBA given what happened to the Seattle SuperSonics, and I fully understand. If you’ve not been following the Blazers (or indeed the league) at all this season, they are something truly special. There’s something distinctly Seahawk-y about the 2018-19 Blazers that I can’t quite describe. After they were swept out of the first-round of last year’s playoffs, they were pegged by some pundits to either have a quick exit this year or miss the playoffs entirely. When star center Jusuf Nurkic broke his leg in March, it felt like they were cooked. Doubts about Damian Lillard’s ability to perform in the playoffs loomed over the team when all but one of ESPN’s 20 “experts” picked the Thunder to beat the Blazers in round one. Lillard waved Russell Westbrook and company off the court. They don’t have home court advantage against Denver, yet they lead the series after one of the gutsiest performances you’ll ever see. Even at present, starting center Enes Kanter played 55 minutes yesterday despite a separated shoulder. Moe Harkless played 45 minutes on a bad ankle and left the game with cramps, setting the stage for Hood’s heroics. So if you don’t hate the NBA or your dislike for the Blazers has waned post-Sonics era, I certainly recommend hopping on the Blazers bandwagon. It’s been one hell of a surprise ride that I haven’t really felt for any team I’ve rooted for since the 2012 Seahawks. an impressive day on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers in leading the Browns to their fourth home win of the season.Mayfield finished the game 18-of-22 (with three of those incompletions coming on drops) for 238 yards and a highlight-reel touchdown pass to wide receiver Jarvis Landry. That performance earned the rookie a place on Pro Football Focus’ Team of the Week for Week 14:With three games remaining in the season T. J. Carrie Color Rush Jersey , Mayfield now has 2,877 passing yards and 19 touchdown passes, giving him a very real change at cracking the franchise’s Top 10 list in both categories. Mayfield needs just 508 passing yards to bump Brandon Weeden (3,385 yards in 2012) from the No. 10 spot, and five touchdown passes to move past Bill Nelsen (23 touchdowns in 1969) for No. 10.It can be bit foolish to project stats out over a full season, but lets have a little bit of fun here. Brian Sipe is the only quarterback in franchise history to surpass 4,000 passing yards and throw for 30 touchdowns in a single season. He accomplished both of those feats in his MVP season of 1980 when he threw for 4,132 yards and 30 touchdowns. Mayfield has made 10 starts this season and if you project his numbers — 267.6 yards and 1.9 touchdowns — from those games over a full season, he would have 4,281 yards and 30 touchdowns.Which, if you are keeping score at home, is pretty darn good. While it might seem as if Mayfield’s performance is no big deal for a player selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft https://www.brownsfanshop.com , his on-field success is a result of his work during the week, as head coach Gregg Williams told clevelandbrowns.com:The Browns have been searching for a quarterback for more than two decades. It may only be 10 games, but it seems like that quest has finally come to an end. Baker Mayfield and Freddie Kitchens also weigh in." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesHorizontal - WhiteDawgs EDTShareTweetShareShareDuke Johnson reports to Browns minicamp, but explains why he still wants to be tradedScott R. Galvin-USA TODAY SportsWith Cleveland Browns mandatory minicamp getting started on Tuesday, the expectation was that the practice debut of WR Odell Beckham would be a headline-stealer. Instead, all of the attention centered around the return of RB Duke Johnson. He and his teammates didn’t hold back with respect to commenting on the situation, which makes for a bit of an awkward (or, as QB Baker Mayfield puts it, “self-inflicted”) situation.Let’s start with Johnson, who spoke with the media right away and made it clear that he still wants to be traded. Why?Johnson doesn’t feel wanted any more, and he is putting the blame on the front office, saying that they put him on the trading block a month before he ever asked for a trade. He cited re-signing with the club after 1-15 and 0-16 seasons as reasons why he’s demonstrated that he wanted to be here Browns Customized Color Rush Jerseys , before the team made him feel otherwise this offseason. His reason for continuing to ask for a trade is that he seems to think it is inevitable, and he’d rather have the opportunity to get reps and contribute to a team all season as opposed to what happened with Carlos Hyde in Jacksonville last year (an example that he specifically brought up).He did make it clear that he’s still going to be a professional about everything — that as long as he is a member of the Browns, he is going to give it his all.QB Baker Mayfield was asked if the situation with Johnson makes things awkward, and he didn’t mince words with his response. “It’s self-inflicted. It is what it is. it’s not awkward for anybody else in this building. ... He’s got to do his job. He says he’s a professional, and I hope he does his job.” Without exactly saying it, Mayfield implied that Johnson needs to get over it and focus on this year:The best response of all came from head coach Freddie Kitchens, who had his arm around Johnson as the team headed out to the field for the start of minicamp after interviews were over.I think it could be a good thing that all of this was addressed on Day 1 of minicamp. From a public relations standpoint, it may have even strategicially been done that way — otherwise, why would the team select Johnson as one of the players to speak at the start of minicamp? We can only hope that this was Johnson’s ability to say what was on his mind before taking a, “That’s out of the way, so let’s go play football” mentality. We’ll have a full recap of Day 1 of minicamp later today.

Jimmy Graham Color Rush Jersey , we at Acme Packing Company are breaking down the 2017 Green Bay Packers position-by-position. Today we conclude the analysis with a look at the Packers’ special teams units.Kicker: Mason Crosby30/37 Field Goals (81.1%) 34/36 Extra Points (94.4%)Looking at the stats of Mason Crosby’s year, it doesn’t fall far from his career percentages. Crosby has a career percentage of 80.4% on field goals and 98% on extra points. Those looking in from the outside wouldn’t think anything of that but those of us who watched this year know it’s a different story. Call it extremely bad luck as every kick, except for the missed PAT against Buffalo, had a major ramification on a game. Crosby’s first miss came at the end of regulation against the Vikings, that game ended in a tie. The infamous game in Detroit, Crosby missed four field goals and one extra point. That’s 13 points left on the field in a game the Packers lost by eight. He missed a field goal in the first quarter against Seattle when the Packers lost by three, and he missed a field goal with under two minutes left to go in the three point loss to the Cardinals. That’s a rough year.It was also a down year for Crosby on kickoffs. He only had touchbacks on 41 of his 83 kickoffs. That’s a 49.3% and the only kicker that had a lower percentage than that was Sam Martin in Detroit (46.5%).If we turn to the positives, Crosby was 5-7 from over 50 yards with a long of 53. He missed just two field goals and one extra point in Green Bay. That is an accomplishment in itself. With the bad weather and wind that can fill Lambeau Field, Green Bay is one of the toughest places to kick in the league. Crosby also bounced back well from that disastrous Detroit game. The next week, he went 3/3 on extra points and 4/4 in field goals including the game winning field goal against San Francisco. He wound up as the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for that performance.Punter: JK Scott71 punts, 3,176 yards gross, 44.7 gross average, 38.8 net average, one blocked punt, nine touchbacks, 19 downed inside the 20 (26.7%)JK Scott was a fifth round draft pick in 2018 and made last year’s punter, Justin Vogel, expendable. Oddly enough, looking back at Vogel’s stats from 2017, they were almost identical punters. Vogel had a slightly higher net average but the potential of Scott was worth the draft pick. Scott’s long frame lets him generate a lot of power out of his leg and his most noticeable trait is that he rarely lets his plant foot come off the ground when he punts. While his average (44.7) is in the lower half of the league, the biggest positive is that he gets a hang time close to five seconds. That led to 26 fair catches, which was second in the league. Hopefully, new special teams coach, Sean Mennenga, can work with Scott to improve his distance while keeping that hang time.Long Snapper: Hunter BradleyBradley was selected in the seventh round in 2018 and replaced the trio of Brent Goode, Taybor Pepper and Derek Hart from 2017. Goode was a mainstay in Green Bay since 2008 but it was time to find someone younger going forward.Bradley had a very good year as far as long snappers go. While he did have one bad snap that lead to a blocked punt, he did not have the same consistency troubles that Pepper or Hart had last year. Bradley doesn’t offer much in the realm of covering kicks as he ended up with only one tackle but very few if any long snappers provide much in coverage anymore. Kick Returners: Ty Montgomery https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Muhammad-Wilkerson-Jersey , Bashaud Breeland, J’Mon Moore, Jamaal Williams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Trevor DavisOne of the biggest flaws of the 2018 special teams came in the return game. The Packers had absolutely no one who provided a consistent return game or even pose a threat to opponents. The best returner the Packers had was Trevor Davis. While Davis has the speed and shiftiness to be a very good returner, he was snake bitten with injuries all year. Davis only got into two games midway through the season where he only got one kick return for 20 yards. With Davis succumbed to injuries at the start of year, the Packers turned to Ty Montgomery. Montgomery returned kicks last year and has been very average at best. Montgomery averaged 20 yards on his ten kick returns. Montgomery was traded to Baltimore after he decided to take a kick out of the end zone and fumbled with just over two minutes left in the game versus the Rams. That denied Aaron Rodgers the chance to run the two minute drill and the Packers lost by two points. After the Montgomery trade, the Packers tried many faces on kick return but never settled on one person more than the other. Bashaud Breeland got the most returns with eight but averaged only 21.6 yards per return. Jamaal Williams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Davis got their chance but also only averaged in the low twenties per return as well. If there is a little hope it might have been with J’Mon Moore. While he only had four returns on the year, he averaged 25.5 yards per return. While that’s nothing to go crazy about, with more work, maybe being a return man could be in Moore’s future. At least it could give the Packers an option after Davis in 2019.Punt Returners: Tramon Williams, Randall Cobb, Trevor Davis, Jaire Alexander, Josh Jackson, Kevin KingPunt returner was just as big an issue as the kick returner. With Trevor Davis injured most of the year, the Packers didn’t have many options here either so they seemed to try anyone. While it was only two games, Davis was the best returner. He had four returns and averaged 11 yards per return. The Packers did try some of the young players with Jaire Alexander, Josh Jackson and Kevin King. Jackson and King only had three attempts on the season but all were fair caught. The electric Alexander, how had a history of being a good returner in college, only got four attempts and averaged 6.3 yards per. For the most consistency, the Packers turned to Tramon Williams and Randall Cobb. Williams got the most chances as he had 12 returns for and averaged, a team leading, 6.9 yards per attempt. When he was healthy, Randall Cobb also got some punt returns. Cobb averaged 6.6 yards on his seven attempts. Not much to brag about with these two as far as average went but they stepped up when the Packers needed them and tried to give the team a spark like when they were younger.Overall Grade: FLooking at the main special teams players in Mason Crosby, JK Scott and Hunter Bradley, giving a F might be a little harsh. Between the three of them DeShone Kizer Jersey , I probably would have been more generous and given a D. However, we have to look at the bigger picture here. With the mess that was the return game adding into the poor coverage teams that Ron Zook lead out there week after week, the only option was to give an F.I can’t remember a time when the coverage and return games were so poor. From all the successful fake punts against, to the fake field goal against New England, the Packers just never seemed prepared or had given the proper time to practice for what each team threw at them. Gladly, it lead to the end of Ron Zook as special teams coordinator. Sean Mennenga takes over in 2019 and he will have his hands full. Let’s hope he gets Mason Crosby back on track and keeps developing JK Scott. Still, the biggest concern will be in the return game. Getting Trevor Davis healthy will be a big help, otherwise the Packers need to put a high priority finding someone in free agency or the draft. Way back in 2011, current Green Bay Packers’ defensive coordinator Mike Pettine was the defensive coordinator for the New York Jets under Rex Ryan. 2011 was a turbulent season for New York as, following up a near-Super Bowl run in 2010, things fell apart completely. That season is captured wonderfully by Nicholas Dawidoff in his 2013 book, “Collision Low Crossers,” in which Dawidoff was given unprecedented access to the Jets’ coaching staff and players for the entire 2011 season. For a fan of Wisconsin sports, the book turns out to be an extremely interesting read as two of the main characters of the story are Pettine and current Wisconsin Badgers’ defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard, then a safety for the Jets.Every member of the coaching staff is viewed as a workaholic, and no one more than Pettine, who is portrayed as a 23-hour-a-day film rat, but the contrast between Pettine and Ryan is stark. Ryan is presented as defensive savant, who only needs to study the tape once to see what others still can’t see after five or six rewatches. Pettine, on the other hand, is a paragon of detail-oriented preparation, someone who broke into the league as an underpaid technology-forward tape watcher for the Ravens (while secretly cashing out his 401K in order to hide a substantial pay cut from his then-wife), but who doesn’t see the game at the same level as Ryan. Ryan is Mozart, Pettine is Salieri. While they work well together if Ryan is leading the way, Ryan can’t help but criticize and interfere when Pettine is given more power.Ryan and Pettine spend much of the book bouncing ideas off of each other, often forgetting whose idea it was in the first place. However, it’s an uneasy relationship, with Ryan giving Pettine more and more responsibility Tramon Williams Color Rush Jersey , only to quickly grab it back when he disagrees with something he sees. Everyone in the locker room that year loved Ryan, but not so with Pettine. As a defensive coordinator’s defensive coordinator, he played the role of bad cop to Ryan’s jovial good cop while taking much of the blame (sometimes deservedly) when things went wrong. Pettine wasn’t exactly Ryan’s fall-guy, but it’s unsurprising that the gang split up after the season.Working for guys like Ryan can be difficult. They see and understand things at such a high level compared to almost everyone else, that it’s actually difficult to learn much of use from them. Bill Belichick, who is also discussed at length, is similar in that he primarily needs coaches to execute his vision, not necessarily to bring additional ideas to the table. It is, I believe, the chief reason so many of his assistants fail when they leave the Patriots. There is a lot to like about Pettine, as his pro-technology, meticulous nature, and old-school work ethic likely make him an effective, process-oriented coach. That said, I suspect he excels at the tactics of coaching more than the strategy, and some of his defense’s numbers on early downs vs. late downs bears that out. The Packers, while well-prepared on 3rd and long, were eaten alive on first and second down.Likewise, the book makes clear that Ryan really isn’t a great fit as a head-coach. He is too willing to delegate on offense and completely unable to delegate on defense, leading to a lack of overall chemistry and a volatile relationship on both sides of the ball. I’m sure it’s commonplace on NFL teams for offensive and defensive players to have uneasy relationships, but in this instance, Ryan’s lack of offensive direction compounded the problem. I doubt there is a universe where a Mark Sanchez-led offense succeeds, but there probably is one where the the Jets’ offense doesn’t repeatedly beat itself, allowing the defense to secure more wins.Everything came to a head for these 2011 Jets in a late-season game against the Giants that saw Sanchez throw the ball 59 times despite being in a close game. With Pettine calling the defense, and Jim Leonhard missing his second game of the season, the Jets’ defense allowed an unusual number of big plays, including a 99-yard touchdown to Victor Cruz. It was the nail in the coffin for the pairing. It’s possible that Pettine will yet succeed, but the book made me long for Ryan as the superior defensive mind. If I were looking for someone to combat the new https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Marcedes-Lewis-Jersey , innovative offensive minds in the game, it wouldn’t be Pettine, who needs to process a lot of information before cranking out alternative plans. Jim LeonhardPerhaps the biggest surprise of Collision Low Crossers is the juxtaposition of the all-world Darrelle Revis, perhaps the finest corner to ever play the game, with the supremely talented but deeply flawed Antonio Cromartie and the less-talented but hugely important safety Jim Leonhard. Leonhard is the current defensive coordinator for the University of Wisconsin, where he also starred as a ball-hawking safety. In the book, Leonhard is portrayed as a coach-on-the-field, responsible for making the calls for one of the NFL’s best defense while relying on his football intelligence to allow him to compete with faster, stronger players. When Leonhard is lost for the season to a knee injury for the second year in a row, the defense goes to pieces for the second year in a row, as no one behind Leonhard is capable of implementing the defensive calls as well or as quickly. In fact, when the coaching staff and front office are seeking his replacement, they don’t focus on forty times or agility drills, but on Wonderlic scores (eventually settling on journeyman safety Gerald Alexander and his solid, if unspectacular 25). Leonhard also comes across as a superb locker room presence, able to laugh at himself in the way confident people can without actually sacrificing any charisma, while diffusing petty squabbles. Everyone on the team seems to respect Leonhard, and he comes across as one of the few people outside or Ryan who really seems to understand the Ryan defense at a deep level. It’s no surprise that Leonhard is a rising star as a college football coach, and if he isn’t a high-level head coach in the next several year, I’ll be shocked. I actually found myself preferring Leonhard to Pettine as a coaching candidate once I was finished reading. “Collision Low Crossers” is fundamentally a book about the Jets, but for any Packers or Badgers fan wondering about their team’s defensive coordinator, you won’t find a more in-depth profile. It’s a pretty breezy read, and it offers plenty of insight into the inner workings of a football team including a few fascinating one-off facts. For instance, the Jets did not value wide receivers in the draft because “they only touch the ball a handful of times per game,” which explains a lot about their offense. They also didn’t trust Penn State pro-day times because the PSU facility sloped noticeably downward, and running drills were all downhill as a result. It’s well worth your time, especially if you happen to be interested in the direction of the defenses for the two highest-profile football teams in the state of Wisconsin.

He tied Dan Marino for the third-longest streak of consecutive games with three or more TD passes (seven) in league history. Only Tom Brady (10) and Peyton Manning (eight) remain ahead of Luck on the list.Hilton caught nine passes for 155 yards in front of Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison, the top two receivers in each of the Colts’ most prominent receiving categories. And the victory, the 210th regular-season win of Vinatieri’s career, allowed the 45-year-old to break George Blanda’s record as Indy (5-5) moved squarely back into the playoff hunt. For the Titans (5-5), it was all too familiar. They’ve lost to Luck when he never gave them a chance, when he rallied the Colts late, when he was pulled early and even when he was hurt. This loss might have been the most frustrating yet. After defensive coordinator Dean Pees was taken to a nearby hospital when medical workers took him out of the press box in a wheelchair during the first quarter, first-year coach Mike Vrabel took over play-calling duties and Luck skewered the league’s top-ranked defense.Losing starting quarterback Marcus Mariota with an injured right elbow in the final minute of the first half certainly didn’t help.Vrabel provided no postgame update on Mariota but said Pees would be kept overnight for further tests. The 69-year-old Pees retired briefly after last season, and Luck and Reich both said they hoped Pees would be all right. Tennessee, meanwhile, has some soul-searching to do.“They were ready to go. They played much better than we did. They coached much better than we did,” Vrabel said. “We have to drop this and lose it after we make the corrections, and get going.”Luck made it look easy. After Mack’s 1-yard run and Vinatieri’s 22-yard field goal gave Indy an early 10-0 lead, Luck connected with Hilton on a 68-yard TD pass. Wilkins’ 18-yard scoring run made it 24-0.All the Titans could muster was a 42-yard field on the final play of the half — after Mariota left and only after the Colts drew an unnecessary roughness penalty.Indy put it away by winning a replay challenge that turned a Hilton’s 11-yard catch into a 14-yard TD and a 7-yard scoring pass from Luck to Dontrelle Inman in the fourth quarter.“I cannot speak to the previous years,” Luck said of his mastery over Tennessee. “I’m just happy we’re 1-0 this year against Tennessee and we’ll face them again, obviously, when that time comes.”WAYNE’S WORLD Wayne became the 15th member of the Colts’ Ring of Honor on Sunday during a halftime ceremony where he was surrounded by former teammates including Manning, Marvin Harrison and Edgerrin James, and NFL Hall of Fame executive Bill Polian, who drafted Wayne in 2001.He played in a franchise-record 211 games and caught 1,070 passes for 14 Pat McAfee Color Rush Jersey ,345 yards and 82 TDs in 14 seasons — all in Indy.“This (blue) jacket looks pretty damn good on me, thank you,” Wayne said before jogging to the end zone to thank the fans — as he did for years just before kickoff.STAT PACKTitans: Mariota was 10 of 13 with 85 yards and one interception before leaving. Blaine Gabbert went 11 of 16 with 118 yards, one TD and one interception after replacing Mariota. … Tennessee allowed five sacks. … The Titans gave up a season-high point total.Colts: Luck was not sacked for the fifth consecutive game, breaking a tie for the fifth-longest streak in the league since sacks became an official stat in 1982. Luck has not been sacked in 214 consecutive dropbacks. … Starting center Ryan Kelly left in the fourth quarter with a knee injury and did not return. He said his knee will be examined Monday.THEY SAID ITTitans: “I was able to get the headset switched over, and everybody on the staff, just like they do with Dean, was able to help out,” Vrabel said.Colts: “I guess I knew they kept that stat, but I didn’t know I was close,” Vinatieri said of passing Blanda.UP NEXTTitans: Vrabel returns to Houston next Monday.Colts: Welcome former division foe Miami to Indianapolis next Sunday. Here is a look at the complete Indianapolis Colts 2019 Draft Class:Colts 2019 Draft ClassRoundPickPlayerPositionSchoolRoundPickPlayerPositionSchoolColts 2019 Draft ClassAfter the draft had concluded, Chris Ballard and Frank Reich sat down to discuss some of the picks and their mentality behind them, and it provided a good look at the ideas he has for this roster going forward. Day ThreeKhari Willis – Safety, Michigan StatePhoto by Gregory Shamus/Getty ImagesThe Colts made their first selection on day three by way of a significant surprise. Chris “I like them picks” Ballard traded up to take Khari Willis out of Michigan State. For a GM like Ballard, that is basically like a love letter to a player. It is clear that he really must have coveted Willis, and whether you think he could have gotten him later or not, he obviously wasn’t willing to risk it. Willis is exactly the kind of player they talk about when they reference bringing in high character leaders to the team. Being a team captain says a lot about him to begin with, but here is a video of him speaking at a Big Ten Kickoff Luncheon and giving a glimpse into the kind of man he is:However https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Jack-Doyle-Jersey , while Ballard did reference Willis’ character, it wasn’t the first thing he talked about. Here is what he did say:Our own Zach Hicks also had the pleasure of interviewing Willis ahead of the draft, and as our resident scout of the safety class, had him listed as a guy who would be a solid fit for the Colts. Additionally, Colts Ring of Honor inductee Bill Brooks is Willis’ cousin, meaning he already has the horseshoe in his DNA.Marvell Tell – Cornerback, USCPhoto by Harry How/Getty ImagesDespite playing safety for USC, the Colts drafted Marvell Tell with the intention of playing him at cornerback. Ballard made an interesting connection to Quincy Wilson when discussing Tell. He referenced how Tell is a big, athletic player, and how Wilson has been useful as a versatile player who can play dime backer or corner as they need him. It seems as though that positional versatility is yet again peeking its head up and showing as a reason the Colts went with Tell. Having a slew of players who have the ability to do a lot gives the Colts flexibility in the event of injury, but also opens up the kinds of looks that Eberflus can show in the secondary. Better still is that Tell won’t be tasked with starting right away, which means he can develop as a special teamer and grow into the cornerback position among a group of other talented young players. The key with the Colts draft this year is that these are high character guys with the potential to grow under the coaching staff. Ballard has clearly placed a great deal of faith in the ability of the coaching staff to develop these players. Additionally, Zach had the opportunity to interview Tell as well ahead of the draft. E.J. Speed – Linebacker, Tarleton StateWho? That was a common consensus among many when Speed’s name was called in the 5th round. The quarterback who converted to receiver, and then to linebacker was not exactly a household name. Speed turned down offers to play for Oklahoma State, Colorado, and Colorado State in order to stay close by after his brother was diagnosed with cancer. Coupled with the two counts of organized criminal activity which were dismissed, and it isn’t hard to see why the kid from Tarleton State wasn’t drawing a ton of attention. However, it would be wrong to assume he wasn’t getting any at all. His Pro Day workout tape found its way to the Colts, and that sparked their interest. Ballard was very clear, they had done their due diligence on him and felt comfortable with what they had found. Despite his charges, what they uncovered was a kid who had been mixed up with a bad crowd and grown from it. From an athletic profile, the guy fits exactly what the Colts have preached over and over, yet another athletic freak who will provide depth and competition at the linebacker spot, and a hungry football loving player who should contribute immediately on special teams. Gerri Green – Defensive End Adam Vinatieri Jersey , Mississippi StatePhoto by Kevin C. Cox/Getty ImagesSensing that the number of linebackers they seemed to draft was a bit high, Ballard joked that they would play a “radar” defense and stand up eleven linebackers before conceding that while they worked Green out as a SAM during the Senior Bowl, they would play him as a defensive end. As with most players selected at 199, Green won’t have an easy road to playing time. The defensive end spot will be hotly contested, and while this staff has proven that they mean it when they say that the best player plays, it won’t be a walk in the park to get that honor. It will be interesting to see how he performs in OTAs and training camp.Jackson Barton – Offensive Tackle, UtahPhoto by George Frey/Getty ImagesThe Colts 9th selection, but only their 2nd offensive player of the draft, Barton projects as a developmental player who (surprise, surprise) possesses elite physical traits at the position. He has played at both tackle positions and started at left tackle the past two seasons. Pad level is Barton’s biggest struggle, and he’ll need to improve across the board. Fortunately, this staff headed by the legendary Howard Mudd on the offensive line, should be able to get the best out of him, and there is no immediate need for a starter here, so Barton will be able to get work as a depth player, or on the practice squad.Javon Patterson – Center, Ole MissPhoto by Bob Levey/Getty ImagesPatterson is a versatile interior offensive lineman, just exactly what the Colts love in their depth players. He has played at each position on the interior but it seems as though the Colts would like him to get work at center to back up Ryan Kelly. Like Barton, Patterson will benefit from not needing to start, and the opportunity to develop under an incredible offensive line staff that can help him develop into a solid rotational player. ConclusionsDay three was much like day two for the Colts. They added players with elite athletic ability and were largely top notch in terms of character and leadership. Defense continued to be the name of the game, and the competition will be hot come training camp to get a spot on this roster. This might be the first time in memory that we will have to face the likelihood of several players getting cut who we would really like to keep due to competition. Even further indication that this roster is heading in the right direction and that the team stands to be improved from last season. So what are your thoughts on this year’s draft class?
