The Lions have won four straight against the Green Bay Packers and look to make it five following their trip to Lambeau Field on Monday night. In those last four games Ricky Jean Francois Jersey , the Lions scored at least 30 points, but with a revamped Packers defense, it might be a little tougher for Detroit to pile up the points.November 6, 2017: Lions 30, Packers 17December 31 Levine Toilolo Jersey , 2017: Lions 35, Packers 11October 7, 2018: Lions 31, Packers 23December 30, 2018: Lions 30 Christian Jones Jersey , Packers 0Over the past two years, the Lions have done a great job of limiting Green Bay’s offense. They allowed them to eclipse 20 points just once in four games. In that one game, Aaron Rodgers went off with over 400 passing yards and three touchdowns, but most of those yards came with Rodgers and the offense playing catch-up down by two-plus scores. This year, Green Bay’s offense continued to struggle during the early season Devon Kennard Jersey , but has since found its stride. The defense has been more consistent, and aside from getting trampled over by the Eagles, they have been what has carried the Packers to their wins. Today’s Question of the Day is:How many points will it take for the Lions to beat the Packers? My answer: The magic number for me is 27. Although we’ve only seen Rodgers play for about a game and a half against Patricia’s Lions, I think they dialed up the perfect formula to mitigate the damage from Green Bay’s offense and keep Rodgers from making throws out of the pocket, where he is most lethal. I don’t think the trickiest part is going to be stopping the Packers from scoring points. I think scoring 27 or more on Green Bay will be the challenge. The Lions have struggled in the run game throughout the season and has relied on its passing game to get them out of tough situations Isaac Nauta Detroit Lions Jersey , but they have not faced a secondary like the Packers’ unit yet. It will be key for Detroit to put themselves in third-and-short situations and lucky for them, the Packers rank 28th in run defense DVOA via Football Outsiders. If the Lions manage to score at least 27 points, I think they’ll escape with their first divisional win on the season.Your turn.Tweets from https://twitter.com/PrideOfDetroit/lists/lions-coverage The London game is over, and boy was it an event that took place! Cincinnati faces a huge inter-conference matchup this week in facing the high-flying Saints. New Orleans is on a emotional high after beating the formerly-undefeated Rams this past Sunday. Will the Saints be emotionally and physically exhausted from their high-profile contest against Los Angeles? Will they be the same team in the cold weather at Paul Brown Stadium? And Deshaun Davis Jersey Womens , what about Cincinnati? The Bengals look to be without star receiver A.J. Of the eight jobs that were available in the 2019 hiring cycle Deshaun Davis Jersey 2019 , many would have put Cincinnati at or near the bottom. It鈥檚 exactly what I want in a coaching job, everything I hoped for.”Taylor spent a year in the city working for the University of Cincinnati Deshaun Davis Jersey Mens , and he said that he and his wife “fell in love” with the town. He also believes in the Bengals organization.“The Brown family is very big on loyalty in a cut-throat, bottom-line, dog-eat-dog league, when often you might just get two years to turn a program around,” Taylor said. “I just felt this was the right place at the right time. They hadn鈥檛 changed coaches in 16 years Youth Deshaun Davis Jersey , and if they were going to change, this organization had the values I embraced.”The son-in-law of former Packers coach Mike Sherman, Sherman advised Taylor to be himself. That’s becoming a common theme among NFL coaches. Whether they succeed or not, the carousel will spin every year — and multiple coaches will end up no longer being coaches.Although the Bengals may be more patient than other teams, Taylor will need to win a certain number of games in order to remain employed over the long haul.

(AP) — Kareem Hunt spent the first few weeks of the season doing what he called “dirty work,” which mostly amounted to carrying the ball late in games as the Kansas City Chiefs tried to run out the clock. The Chiefs didn’t really need the NFL’s reigning rushing champ the way Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the offense was sizzling. So there he was, one of the breakout stars of last season, getting brutally tough yards when the entire opposing defense was stacking the box.He never complained. Never seemed down.In fact, the second-year pro insisted all along that he would have his opportunities, once the rest of the league decided they’d better pay attention to the Chiefs’ passing game. And lo and behold, that’s exactly what has happened the past few weeks Reggie Ragland Jersey , when the Chiefs have been able to pry open massive holes for him in the running game and Mahomes has been able to find him in the passing game.“We don’t count touches,” Chiefs offensive lineman Cam Erving said. “We have a lot of weapons and when a team schemes for one thing, we have another one to pop it back with. Kareem has just done a great job of being patient and waiting for those moments to come.“He grabs those moments,” Erving added, “and he finishes.”He certainly lets the woebegone defender that gets in his way know, too. Rarely does the bruising, Walter Payton-esque running back go down on first contact. Often not second or third.Take his most impressive run last week against Cincinnati, when he appeared to be bottled up near the sideline. Hunt made a nifty spin move to shake one defender, darted to his left to avoid a few more and then hurdled — without getting any head of steam — yet another before finally going down.It was the biggest highlight on a night Hunt scored three touchdowns.“I probably made the wrong read,” Mahomes said of the run-pass option Cameron Erving Jersey , “and then I handed it to him. It should’ve been a tackle for a loss and then he broke a tackle and jumped over a dude. This is a very talented (Bengals) defense who have a lot of guys who are built to stop the run, and it just speaks to the strength and the power he has when he runs the football.”Those raw physical skills have been on display the past four weeks, beginning with a win in Denver when Hunt ran for 121 yards and a touchdown and caught three more passes for 54 yards. He followed up with a touchdown against Jacksonville, had 185 yards from scrimmage and another score against New England, and had 86 yards rushing and three touchdowns total against Cincinnati.“(Hunt) makes it all go because you can’t simply ignore the guy,” said Broncos coach Vance Joseph, whose team gets another shot Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. “Our first game, he made most of the big plays, honestly. He’s a guy that runs downhill and he catches the ball in the pass game.”In other words, he’s the perfect running back for a system that is predicated on misdirection.“He did well last year Demetrius Harris Jersey , too,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said, “but he’s playing as well as any running back in the National Football League. He’s not only running the ball like crazy, he’s also catching the football. I actually took him out before he broke the 100-yard mark last week.“He’s punishing people right now,” Reid added with a grin, “and it’s something to watch.”Yet just like Hunt took his relative lack of production the first few weeks in stride, he’s done just the same with his sudden surge of success. He heaped praise on his offense line, showered Mahomes and the rest of the offense with accolades and complemented his coaches on getting him the ball.“I’m just a guy who is going to come in and try my best to make every effort possible to score a touchdown,” he said. “It’s not even about me. It’s about the team winning. Whatever I can do to help the team win, I’m a team guy. I’m down to do whatever.”Hunt did finally let his bravado show a little when Chiefs tight end Demetrius Harris Mitchell Schwartz Jersey , who was dressing nearby, described him as “a bull.” Hunt thought for a moment and decided that was a pretty good label, then he realized that bulls don’t really carry much workload.“I like to be an ox, too,” he said.Notes: Free safety Daniel Sorensen (broken leg) returned to practice Wednesday. He’d been on the IR since early in training camp and is eligible to play in games beginning Week 8. … Strong safety Eric Berry (heel), Linebacker Justin Houston (hamstring) and center Mitch Morse (concussion) did not practice. … Linebacker Terrance Smith tore his ACL on a kick return against Cincinnati, Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder said. He went on IR earlier this week.

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Mike Mayock has spent more than a decade as an analyst at NFL Network, studying all the teams and their rosters trying to find the best fits for each player in the draft. Now Mayock gets the chance to use that knowledge he gained to try to rebuild the Oakland Raiders after he was hired Monday to be the team’s new general manager alongside coach Jon Gruden.Mayock replaced the recently fired Reggie McKenzie and now gets his first chance in an NFL front office at age 60.“For the last 15 years, I think I’ve tried to be the GM for all 32 teams,” he said. “I’ve been in all 32 buildings for the last 15 years. I know what it looks like, I know what it smells like. I just need a little help with the mechanics.”Gruden had been searching for a general manager after the team fired McKenzie earlier in a 4-12 season that ended Sunday with a 35-3 loss to Kansas City. It was an underwhelming return to the sideline for Gruden, who got a 10-year, $100 million contract to return for a second stint in Oakland after spending nine seasons as an analyst at ESPN.Gruden inherited McKenzie, who won the 2016 NFL executive of the year award for his rebuilding job after the death of owner Al Davis in 2011. The pairing didn’t work as Gruden frequently criticized McKenzie’s recent drafts and got rid of many of those players. Now the Raiders are hoping for a better working relationship between Gruden and Mayock https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-antonio-brown-jersey , who have known each other for more than 20 years and frequently talked about draft prospects when they were analysts for ESPN and NFL Network, respectively.“I know a lot of people in this business who love football and study football,” Gruden said. “I don’t really know anybody who loves it and studies it more than Mike Mayock.”The Raiders will have three first-round picks in April’s draft. Oakland has its own pick, which will be fourth in the draft, as well as first-rounders from Chicago and Dallas, which will be in the bottom 12 picks in the first round.Oakland acquired those picks by dealing McKenzie’s best two first-round picks from his seven-year tenure in Oakland. Star pass rusher Khalil Mack was traded to the Bears before the season for a package that included two first-round picks following a contract holdout, and receiver Amari Cooper was dealt during the season to the Cowboys for a 2019 first-rounder.Only 11 players drafted by McKenzie from 2012 to 2017 remain under contract with the Raiders, led by quarterback Derek Carr and right guard Gabe Jackson from the 2014 class, and 2016 first-round safety Karl Joseph and 2017 first-round cornerback Gareon Conley. The Raiders will have plenty of holes to fill this offseason following another disappointing campaign. Oakland has just one winning season in the past 16 years, going 12-4 under Jack Del Rio in 2016.But otherwise the team has experienced nothing but losing, posting the second-worst record in the NFL since the start of the 2003 season. This season was up there with some of the worst in that stretch. The Raiders allowed their most points (467) in a season since 1961 and set marks for franchise worsts in sacks (13) and yards per play allowed (6.27) as the absence of an impact pass rusher like Mack was felt all season. The offense had its own problems as a line featuring rookie tackles Kolton Miller and Brandon Parker for most of the season failed to protect Carr. Oakland allowed 52 sacks, its most since 2006, and Carr often struggled to find the time to get the ball downfield. That leaves plenty of holes for Mayock to try to fill starting with free agency and the trade market, where he has no experience.“I don’t have all the answers,” he said. “To sit in there and try to pretend I did would be disingenuous. The bottom line for me, I was very honest. There were some things I needed some help with. I talked about the mechanics of the daily regimen. When you start talking about the trades and negotiations and draft day and being on the clock and all that, it’s the first time for me for real.”While Carr showed some signs of improvement late in the season as he grew more comfortable in Gruden’s system, the offense lacked playmakers on the outside and a game-breaking running back. The Raiders were barely competitive for much of the season, losing nine games by at least 14 points, tied for the most lopsided losses in the NFL since New England had 10 in 1990.Oakland was outscored by 177 points on the season, the second-worst mark in the NFL to Arizona. The next big question for the Raiders will be finding a place to play next season. They are moving to Las Vegas in 2020 but don’t have a lease for next season. Oakland city officials have sued the team and NFL over the move and the Raiders have withdrawn a proposal to stay at the Coliseum for one more year. While they could still return to Oakland, the Raiders also have had talks with the San Francisco Giants about playing in AT&T Park, could look into sharing Levi’s Stadium with the San Francisco 49ers or try to move out of the market for a year.A decision is expected before the Super Bowl.“We’ll let the emotion get out of the decision-making process and we’ll go from there,” owner Mark Davis said.

NASHVILLE D’Onta Foreman Jersey , Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota fully participated in Friday’s practice and is expected to start Monday night’s road game against the AFC South-leading Houston Texans.Mariota suffered a stinger Sunday in a 38-10 loss at Indianapolis and didn’t play in the second half of that game. He was limited in Wednesday and Thursday’s work but got the green light from head coach Mike Vrabel on Friday to start, barring an unforeseen setback.“He felt better,” Vrabel said. “We’ve got to keep working. … He looked good today, but that’s why you practice. You try to always improve and get better and fix the things you didn’t have right. He was not limited.”Mariota missed the first meeting between the Titans and Texans on Sept. 16 in Nashville. The Titans won that game 20-17 with backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert under center and with the help of a fake punt touchdown. While Mariota was a full participant on Friday Julién Davenport Jersey , defensive coordinator Dean Pees was absent from the afternoon practice.Pees spent Sunday night in an Indianapolis hospital due to a medical issue. Pees returned to practice Wednesday and Thursday, but Vrabel wanted him to rest on Friday and excused him from practice.“Dean was tired today, and I asked him to go home,” Vrabel said. “I wanted him to get some rest. I’m trying to get Dean to Monday night Will Fuller Jersey , just like I am all the players. The plan was simply, ‘Hey, Dean, why do you go get some rest? Why don’t you go get some sleep?’ That’s what I felt like was best to try to get him to the game.”Also Nick Martin Jersey , left tackle Taylor Lewan was out of Friday’s practice due to illness. Running back David Fluellen remains out with a knee injury. Before and after the Texans waived running back D'Onta Foreman, there was chatter about the possibility of looking into a trade with the Chargers for Melvin Gordon.Earlier this month, the word was that the Texans weren’t interested in a deal for Gordon because they were satisfied with Lamar Miller as their starter. Miller went down with a knee injury on Saturday night, however Tyler Ervin Jersey , and initial word is that the team fears a torn ACL, which makes it easy to think that Houston might have a different idea about a potential trade.Gordon has not reported to the Chargers and recent reports indicate he’s willing to stay away into the regular season. The Chargers seem confident in the Austin Ekeler/Justin Jackson combo in the backfield, so they might be amenable to a deal if the Texans come calling. The Texans have their own potential, albeit difficult Benardrick McKinney Jersey , trade chip in linebacker Jadeveon Clowney and putting everything together would make for one of the more interesting preseason swaps in recent memory.

Detroit Lions vs. Dallas Cowboys Week 4 injury report: Frank Ragnow limited with knee injury If there was any hope that Wednesday was just a rest day for Ezekiel Ansah to get him ready for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys Barry Sanders Jersey , that was shut down on Thursday. The Lions’ pass rusher was absent for the second straight day as he continues to rehab from a shoulder injury suffered in the first half of the Detroit Lions’ Week 1 game against the New York Jets. Now having missed back-to-back practices, it seems unlikely that Ansah will be available to play against the Cowboys, leaving the Lions shorthanded on the edges yet again. Of course, last week against the Patriots, the Lions only rolled with two “defensive ends,” Romeo Okwara and Da’Shawn Hand, choosing to scratch Kerry Hyder, despite being healthy. The Lions’ pass rush would undoubtedly be improved with a healthy Ansah Michael Roberts Jersey , but it hasn’t been impotent without him. Detroit currently has 10 sacks, tied for the fourth most in the league. Perhaps more concerning is the new injury to Lions left guard Frank Ragnow. The rookie offensive lineman popped up on the injury report with a knee injury. He still practiced but in a limited fashion. Ragnow is coming off his best game as a professional, helping open up lanes for Kerryon Johnson to become the Lions’ first 100-yard rusher in five years. If he can’t go Sunday, the Lions would likely turn to Kenny Wiggins or Joe Dahl. Remember, starting right guard T.J. Lang is still battling through a back injury, but he played in every snap last week. In addition to Ansah and Ragnow, tight end Michael Roberts also missed his second straight practice after suffering a knee injury late last week. It’s an unfortunate development after Roberts earned his first NFL touchdown in Week 2. The Bills signed and drafted a lot of offensive linemen this offseason.Former Bengals tackle Jake Fisher wasn’t one of them. The former second-round pick is making the transition to tight end this year Germaine Pratt Jersey 2019 , and is excited about the chance to jump-start his career.“I think it comes down to being happy every day, what you’re passionate about,” Fisher told the team’s website, via the . “If you’re not doing that, change it up. For me, I’m passionate about tight end. I’m passionate about blocking Germaine Pratt Jersey Mens , contributing any way I can for the team. . . . It’s about setting your mind on something and betting on yourself.”After four years as a backup with the Bengals, Fisher could have signed on as a backup elsewhere. But he decided to go back to his roots, when he started as a tight end in high school before becoming a lineman at Oregon. The biggest change is a physical one for Fisher, who played at over 300 pounds in recent years, and is now down to 268.“For someone that’s not naturally 320 to 340 playing offensive tackle, it took a lot of work to get to 315 Youth Germaine Pratt Jersey ,” he said. “So a lot of that excess weight just was breaking down my body later in the season, not allowing me to be the best form of me. . . .“I would say that’s my natural weight. I think I want to be in the low 260s, see how I feel, see how I can block, and go from there.”He’s going to have to prove he can catch a pass occasionally, or else he’ll serve as a clear signal to defenses to what the Bills intend to do when he’s on the field White Germaine Pratt Jersey , but Fisher seems motivated to make the switch work. CINCINNATI (AP)Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict won’t be suspended for the contact with an official that got him ejected from a 24-20 loss at Tennessee. A league spokesman said Monday that Burfict faces a fine only. He pushed an official’s arm out of the way on the sideline in the second quarter after quarterback Marcus Mariota ran out of bounds. Two plays earlier, Burfict drew an unnecessary roughness penalty for hitting Mariota out of bounds. It was the second game in a row that the Bengals (3-6) had a star player ejected before halftime. Receiver A.J. Green was kicked out of a loss at Jacksonville after grabbing cornerback Jalen Ramsey around the neck, tackling him and punching him. The outburst by Green was out of character. He apologized after the game, saying Ramsey’s comments during the game had upset him. Green was fined $42,541 by the NFL but wasn’t suspended. Ramsey also was ejected from the game but wasn’t suspended or fined. Burfict’s latest problems add to his history of fines and suspensions. His biggest meltdown came in the final minute of a playoff game against the Steelers in the 2015 season. His hit to Antonio Brown’s head drew a 15-yard penalty that moved Pittsburgh into range for a field goal and an 18-16 victory. The NFL suspended Burfict for the first three games of the 2016 season in response to his hit on Brown and his history of egregious conduct. He got another three-game suspension to start this season after his egregious hit on Kansas City running back Anthony Sherman during a preseason game. The Steelers have won their past five games against the Bengals, including a 29-14 victory in Pittsburgh this season. The Steelers (7-2) play a Monday night game at Paul Brown Stadium on Dec. 4. Since the Bengals’ playoff meltdown Drew Sample Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , Burfict and running back Le’Veon Bell have exchanged jabs on Twitter. After JuJu Smith-Schuster scored a touchdown Sunday during a 20-17 victory at Indianapolis, he and Bell re-enacted Green’s takedown of Ramsey as their end zone celebration. The Bengals play at Denver (3-6) on Sunday, completing a stretch of three straight road games. The Broncos are coming off a 41-16 home loss to New England on Sunday night, their fifth straight defeat. —

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross didn’t flinch in response to criticism over his decision to hold a six-figure fundraiser for President Trump. But Ross thought about it.Jonathan Swan of Axios.com reports that Ross “freaked out” over the reaction to the situation Miami Dolphins Jerseys Stitched , and that he considered canceling the event due to pressure directed to SoulCycle and Equinox, two fitness brands he owns. Trump associates persuaded Ross to continue as planned.“Stay strong, it’s not going to be that bad. Not that many people are going to boycott the gym,” an unnamed source told Swan, paraphrasing the message directed to Ross. The reports that President Trump joked about the situation at one of two fundraisers on Friday.“Steve Ross got into a little bit of trouble this week, I said, ‘Steve Christian Wilkins black jersey , welcome to the world of politics,'” Trump said.Welcome to the world of politics indeed. Plenty of NFL owners have supported President Trump for the past four years with no backlash. As opposition to racially divisive rhetoric and tweets emanating from the Oval Office grows, public figures who continue to support him necessarily will feel more and more pressure to sever ties. DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Miami Dolphins rookie and New Jersey native Minkah Fitzpatrick is ready for a rowdy reception returning to his home turf Sunday, when his team plays the New York Jets.“I grew up in that environment, everybody loving the game up there,” Fitzpatrick said Wednesday. “Going back up there Christian Wilkins Jersey Mens , I know what I’m walking into. I know how crazy it’s going to be.”But Fitzpatrick never attended an NFL game growing up, and in fact had never seen a pro game until Sunday, when he helped the Dolphins beat the Tennessee Titans 27-20.It was a memorable debut for multiple reasons. Thanks to lightning delays, the game lasted more than seven hours and was the league’s longest since at least 1970.And Fitzpatrick played well. He made six tackles, including a goal-line stop in the open field on fourth down.“My first big play in the NFL — you dream about those moments,” he said. “Seeing all my teammates and the whole crowd go crazy, it was awesome. It’s definitely something I’m not going to forget.”After three seasons at Alabama Miami Dolphins Jersey 2019 , Fitzpatrick was accustomed to big games, and he reported no butterflies leading up to his NFL debut.“I wouldn’t say I was nervous,” he said. “I was just really excited to be playing.”That was the case with the Dolphins’ entire rookie class, coach Adam Gase said. The other draft picks who played were tight ends Mike Gesicki and Durham Smythe, linebacker Jerome Baker, and placekicker Jason Sanders.“I felt like they were all very loose before we started the game,” Gase said. “It seemed like everybody was playing fast.“It’s going to probably take some time to see how everybody fits in and what their roles become. We’ve got an idea Walt Aikens Jersey , but I don’t think we really got as good of a flow offensively as we wanted. Defensively I think the young guys did a good job. It seemed like they were around the ball quite a bit.”Fitzpatrick, taken 11th in the draft, knows accolades from his debut will be brief, including Wednesday’s team film session that replayed his goal-line tackle.“Everybody just said, ‘Good job, rook,’ and then we kept it moving Kiko Alonso Jersey ,” he said. For the Dolphins it’s on to the Jets, who stunned Detroit 48-17 in their opener behind rookie quarterback Sam Darnold .Fitzpatrick recalls playing in college against Darnold, who came off the bench for Southern Cal and saw brief action when both were sophomores. The Trojans lost 52-6, but Fitzpatrick’s not about to take Darnold lightly.“He was drafted high for a reason,” Fitzpatrick said. “And he’s starting for a reason. He’s going to be a challenge for us.”

PFF offers up trade hypotheticals for every NFL team - LA Rams go after EDGE help Prior to the Halloween Dante Fowler Jersey , NFL teams will have to make a decision on whether or not they intend to bolster their rosters by way of trade. At 4pm ET on October 30, all trading comes to an end for the 2018 season. With just a few weeks left before the deadline, Pro Football Focus is taking a look at a potential trade to benefit all 32 teams. For the Los Angeles Rams, it probably comes as no surprise that they’re aiming to help the Rams on defense - specifically at EDGE rusher - a spot where they could definitely use some help: Despite the constant pressure created up front by Donald and Suh, the Rams are still struggling to tally sacks and currently are tied for 22nd in the NFL (with 8.0) — only three sacks shy of finding themselves in last place for this statistical category. It’s probably not where anyone expected them to rank at the quarter point of the season, but the opposition has been wise to get the ball out quickly when facing the Rams.Donald, Suh Replica Nicholas Scott Jersey , and Michael Brockers account for five of the team’s eight sacks, and Samson Ebukam, Ethan Westbrooks, and John Franklin-Myers have each tallied one. It’s clear the Rams could use a more reliable pass rush from the EDGE position. Regarding the trade for Ziggy, PFF proposes the Rams cough up a 3rd round pick in order to acquire him. And while that may sound too rich for some people’s taste, it’s worth noting that the Rams are in line for two 3rd-round compensatory picks in 2019 due to the losses of Sammy Watkins and Trumaine Johnson in the offseason. As for production, Ansah has averaged nearly 9 sacks a season since entering the league in 2013; totaling 44 in his first five seasons (2013-2017). He finished 2017 with 12.0 sacks Stitched Nicholas Scott Jersey , and racked up a career high 14.5 sacks in 2015. So what say ye, Rams’ faithful? If the Lions were willing to send Ansah packing for a 2019 3rd-round pick are you, like the Rams, all in? The original idea behind compensatory picks was to help maintain parity in the NFL: The league has never wanted wealthy teams in big markets to be able to buy up all the top talent and leave the small-market teams struggling, so the compensatory pick formula gives additional picks to teams that have lost high-priced free agents to other teams. But in the years since the NFL started awarding compensatory picks, they’ve actually helped the best teams stay on top. That’s never been more true than this year, when the two Super Bowl participants Nicholas Scott Los Angeles Rams Jerseys , the Patriots and Rams, were the only teams that received two third-round compensatory picks. Compensatory picks will help the best teams get better. The NFL, with its salary cap and revenue sharing, doesn’t have the same issues with big-market teams out-bidding small-market teams that have been problems in other sports leagues. So compensatory picks don’t go to the have-nots as compensation for losing key players to the haves.Instead, compensatory picks go to the teams that were already good, and had such an abundance of good players that some of them signed high-priced contracts elsewhere. Teams like the Patriots and Rams. Also benefiting the best teams is the fact that their success gives job security to their decision makers, and a front office that is secure in its job is willing to play the long game and wait out free agency this year to get compensatory picks next year. On bad teams Los Angeles Rams Jerseys Stitched , the G.M. knows he’s on thin ice and might lose his job without a winning season, so he needs to sign free agents who can help this year, not wait for compensatory picks next year. It’s no coincidence that the Ravens, who had the league’s longest-tenured G.M. in Ozzie Newsome, are also the team that has acquired the most compensatory picks. Newsome knew he had job security, which made him feel comfortable building for the future with compensatory picks, which in turn perpetuated his job security. So while compensatory picks were implemented for the sake of parity in theory Nicholas Scott Jersey nfl draft , in practice they’ve had the opposite effect: Compensatory picks help the top teams stay on top.

It’s the end of the week here at Arrowhead Pride Juan Thornhill Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys , so that means we’re moving on from the Denver Broncos and onto the Kansas City Chiefs matchup against the Cleveland Browns!Last week’s defensive performance left a lot to be desired. While the defense turned the ball over and got some timely stops at the end of the game, execution errors and poor tackling reared their ugly heads again.Meanwhile, the Browns are going through quite a bit of turmoil, having fired head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley this week. Former running backs coach Freddie Kitchens has been promoted to OC and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is now running the show. Quite simply, it’s hard to say what exactly the Chiefs are going to see this weekend.Nevertheless, I’m here this week to take a look at some of the things we can probably expect to see out of the Cleveland offense, along with what the Chiefs defense can do to stop it.The Browns offenseCharles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports2018 first overall pick Baker Mayfield has the reins at quarterback for the Browns. He’s a dynamic athlete who is great at extending plays with his legs and throwing on the run. A bit of a gunslinger, Mayfield has averaged an interception per game in the six games he’s started. He’s one of the league’s up-and-coming exciting players. The Cleveland running backs are led by rookie Nick Chubb, who is averaging 6.1 yards per carry. He’s not the fastest back, but he’s a strong runner between the tackles. Duke Johnson Jr. is Cleveland’s pass-catching back but has gotten a fair amount of run since they traded Carlos Hyde earlier this season. At wide receiver, the Browns have target-monster Jarvis Landry leading the way. He’s been fantastic already this year with 528 yards on 49 targets. The Chiefs will have to watch out for him in the short passing game while keeping an eye on rookie burner Antonio Callaway, who can take the top off of a defense. Damion Ratley and Rashard Higgins round out the Cleveland receiving corps.Second-year tight end David Njoku is the primary player to watch at this spot. He’s a big Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys 2019 , quick player who is dangerous across the middle. He does have inconsistent hands and is just an okay blocker. The Browns utilize a significant amount of 11 personnel, so Seth Devalve doesn’t see the field very often. The interior of the Browns offensive line is a real strength for this team. Joel Bitonio and Kevin Zeitler are stud guards against the run and the pass and center JC Tretter is an underrated blocker as well. Where the Browns struggle to protect is on the edges of the line, with right tackle Chris Hubbard allowing 8.5 sacks so far this season and left tackle Desmond Harrison...well, we’ll get to him in a bit.How to defendShotgun-spread runsThis year, the Browns have leaned heavily on their 11 personnel, especially in the last couple of weeks. With the Browns operating heavily in the shotgun, that means a fair bit of the Browns run game is out of the spread.Typically, spread-run offenses attack defenses on the edges or interior gaps with speed/explosive running backs. Due to light boxes against 11 personnel, these slower developing runs are typically more successful with backs that can get up to speed quickly and into the second level of the defense before the linebackers have a chance to react. Cleveland doesn’t exactly have that kind of speed or explosion at the running back position.Teams have success defending these spread runs simply by maintaining good gap discipline. Even though the Chiefs have been hesitant at the inside linebacker position this year, the slower developing runs play into their hands, allowing the linebackers to read and process their keys and then react slower than against some other teams. The numbers align with this for the Chiefs defense this season. Against 11 personnel, the Chiefs are allowing 4.5 yards per carry — down from their league-worst season average of 5.4 yards per carry. The Browns are a volume rushing team Juan Thornhill Jersey Cheap , bearing the fourth-most rushing attempts in the league. If they plan to continue to implement their spread running game, that bodes better for the Chiefs than if they utilize 21 personnel — 5.625 yards per carry allowed by KC — or 12 personnel — a staggering 6.3 yards per carry.Desmond Harrison and the bull rushBrowns left tackle Desmond Harrison is not the prototypical size for an NFL offensive tackle. Weighing in at 285-290, Harrison is more of an athletic player that blocks well in space. Where he struggles is against power.Shown above, the Pittsburgh Steelers pit one of their interior defensive linemen against Harrison. He immediately lets the interior defensive lineman into his chest while bending at the hips, balance over his head. This allows the defender to bull rush Harrison directly back to Mayfield, as he’s not able to anchor and re-set against the rush.Harrison shows poor strength often when in pass protection. Chiefs pass rusher Breeland Speaks may not have a great pass rush plan or a lot of moves in his arsenal, but he does lean heavily on the bull rush. With that being a weakness in Harrison’s game, Speaks — and Chris Jones lining up in a wide position — should have some success getting to the quarterback this week.Which leads us to...Seven-step drops and pocket awarenessMayfield has been sacked 20 times in six games. That is a ridiculous rate, and unfortunately for Cleveland, it’s largely due to its own design. The Browns implement lots of seven-step drops and longer developing route concepts in their passing game. With poor offensive tackles, there are lots of occasions where the opposition’s pass rushers are meeting Mayfield at the top of his drop. As this has occurred, we start seeing Mayfield revert to some pocket navigation tendencies that get him in trouble. As shown above Juan Thornhill Jersey Womens , Mayfield gets to the top of a seven-step drop and scans the field. When his first read is taken away, Mayfield tends to climb the pocket and move to his right. In both instances, he climbs directly into pressure and into a sack. These plays are in the same drive, with only one snap in between them, showing that the tendency occurs repeatedly. If the Chiefs can get some early hits on Mayfield, look for Dee Ford to attack these tendencies with his excellent counter moves to catch the quarterback climbing the pocket. The bottom lineWith all the changes in the coaching staff for the Browns, it’s hard to say exactly what the Chiefs defense will see this week. From a personnel standpoint, the Browns have good wide receivers, bigger running backs to go with their stout interior offensive line, and terrible offensive tackles. Schematics aside, this plays into the Chiefs strengths with their pass rush and better-than-average cornerback play this season. If the Browns do stick with their spread running game, I think the Chiefs defense has the schematic advantage this week. The Cincinnati Bengals came into the Sunday Night Football matchup 11th in the league in yards per carry and ran 94 percent of their snaps out of 11 personnel. They rushed for 3.4 yards per carry. The Pittsburgh Steelers ran their spread offense 90 percent of the game and averaged 2.5 yards per carry. Quite simply Harrison Butker Jersey , the Chiefs defense has been better stopping the spread run game.If the Browns line up in heavier formations — something they could do with a new offensive coordinator — that’s where things get interesting. They can successfully take the air out of the ball and run the clock while moving the chains against the Chiefs poor base defense. In the passing game, the Chiefs should be able to tee off on the edges against bad tackles. Believe it or not, I expect multiple sacks out of both Ford and Speaks this week in advantageous matchups. This is a great game for Sutton to press with his corners and mix in some match looks to try to confuse a rookie quarterback. Zone blitzes focused on the tackles having to make a read should find success, as well as showing A-gap pressure, then dropping eight to flood the secondary and force Mayfield to miss an underneath defender for an interception.I expect this game to be closer to the Bengals matchup than last week’s Broncos matchup, with the Chiefs jumping out early by stopping the spread rushing attack, then pinning their ears back as the Browns have to throw to keep up. The Chiefs defense could use another good performance this week to work out some of the kinks, and they’ve got the right opponent to do so. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and the rest of the team’s offense didn’t get a chance to enter the field during overtime in the AFC Championship, because the Patriots won the toss, took the ball, drove down the field, scored a touchdown Reggie Ragland Jersey , and won the game.Appearing recently on #PFTPM, Kelce opted for acceptance over anger with the outcome.“You can say it’s frustrating,” Kelce said. “It’s the way the game played out. Those are the rules, the rules are the rules, you know that going into overtime. You’ve just got to lean on your defense or your teammates to try and come up with a few plays and get you the ball back. But hats off the to the Patriots for what they did. They stuck it out. The moved the ball down field and sure enough they won the game because of it.”Given that the Chiefs would like to change the rules, Kelce was asked for his position on a possible adjustment that would guarantee a possession for the team that kicks off to start overtime.“I’m here and there about it,” Kelce said. “It is what it is. The rules are the rules at this point. So whatever it is, we’ve just got to find a way to win.”The rules are indeed the rules, and the rules could be changing later this month, particularly for the playoffs. We’ll possibly have more on that later tonight.

Arguably the most important play in Super Bowl LIII didn’t involve Tom Brady Youth Andre Tippett Jerseys , Julian Edelman, or Rob Gronkowski. It involved an effort from defensive back Jason McCourty that, in hindsight, qualifies as downright superhuman. With three minutes and 42 seconds left in the third quarter, the Rams still hadn’t scored a point. But they were about to take a snap inside the New England 30 for the first time in the game, and coach Sean McVay decided to try to turn a first-and-10 from the 29 into six points. The call was the right one. Receiver Brandin Cooks sprang free down the middle (thanks to safety Devin McCourty following Robert Woods on a crossing route), and Cooks instantly was all alone in the end zone. Quarterback Jared Goff didn’t notice Cooks immediately Andre Tippett Jerseys Stitched , giving Jason McCourty a chance to notice Cooks, too. But with a thrown football typically moving faster than a human, Goff was poised to rack up an easy touchdown.Jason McCourty had other plans. And he somehow executed them.According to the NFL’s Next Gen Stats account, a 19.2-yard gap existed between Cooks and Jason McCourty when the ball left Goff’s hands. Jason McCourty closed that gap to disrupt the touchdown that, with an extra point, would have given the Rams a 7-3 lead — and would have put the Patriots down four points with fewer than 19 minutes to play. It’s impossible to know how the rest of the game would have unfolded from that point forward. But the touchdown surely would have given the Rams a lift, and it would have placed pressure on the Patriots to move the ball. One timely play by the L.A. defense could have set the stage for 7-3 becoming 10-3 or 14-3.Predicting 5 Patriots breakout players in 2018: #3 Phillip Dorsett One year and one day ago today Youth Tedy Bruschi Jerseys , the New England Patriots acquired Phillip Dorsett in exchange for quarterback Jacoby Brissett – and, at the time, for depth at a loaded wide receiver position. Fast forward to today and with several key weapons at the position leaving via trade and free agency in Brandin Cooks and Danny Amendola, the speedy wide out is hoping to provide a spark as the #3 receiver. Dorsett, a former first round draft pick back in 2015, caught just twelve passes last year for 194 yards, including two in the post season. However Tedy Bruschi Jerseys Stitched , with Julian Edelman suspended for the first four games, Eric Decker retiring, Jordan Matthews, Malcolm Mitchell and Kenny Britt all released, Dorsett will most likely line up across from Chris Hogan in week one as the Patriots’ #2 receiver.Dorsett gets a pass for his down year last season, as he was never given an opportunity and everyone knows it is very hard to learn the Patriots offense in sometimes a whole camp, Dorsett was given just five days before New England’s first game last season. Dorsett Youth Steve Grogan Jerseys , who has a bit of Brandin Cooks in him, is a fast, shifty and vertical route runner that can make a big play for an offense. There’s no question the Patriots need some additional depth and help, but the Patriots have no choice to put Dorsett out there and give him a bigger role – something he wants as well: “This is what I’ve been preparing for, This is what I’ve been working for. I wouldn’t say it feels different to me. I was here all along last year just trying to carve out a role, just grinding and learning as much as I can. I learned a lot.”Dorsett has done a great job all training camp getting reps with quarterback Tom Brady and ultimately working towards some trust with the forty-one year old quarterback, especially in the third pre-season game: Brady went to him on a crucial fourth down to a key pick up the first down. And we all know Steve Grogan Jerseys Stitched , once you gain Tom Brady’s trust, the sky is the limit.

After the Raiders had hired away the Cowboys’ regional scout Jim Abrams to become their Director of College Scouting, Abram will be joined by another Cowboys scout, Walter Juliff according to an ESPN report.Juliff was a National scout for the Cowboys and he had been with the organization for 31 years (!). That means he was a scout in Dallas dating back to 1988; before Jerry Jones even bought the team. Before the days of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin. In fact, Irvin was drafted in Juliff’s first year as a Cowboys scout, Aikman the following year, and Smith the year after that, and two years after that they won the first of three Super Bowls in four years. While the Cowboys haven’t won the Super Bowl in the 23 years since, they have made the playoffs ten times and won the NFC West seven times, including three times in the past five years.Follow @LeviDamien It’s pretty rough when a 20-6 loss doesn’t seem that bad. It is even more rough when the team is so bad that 20-6 is actually not a bad loss at all. Sadly, that’s where we are right now with this Jon Gruden led football team. This was actually a pretty good game all things considered for the Raiders. It was the swing at the end of the first half and start of the second half that pushed this game out of range, but even into the 4th quarter they did still have an opportunity. With how bad the last few games have been even just being in the 4th quarter with a semblance of chance to win is a positive. That 5 minutes of game play between the end of the 1st and start of the 2nd was definitely the killer though. The Raiders absolutely needed to stop at least one of those two touchdown drives and when they didn’t the writing was on the wall for the game to be over. This team was showing capable of being competitive if the game stayed close, but once the Chargers had a two touchdown lead it was over.Having gone 3 out of the last 4 games without a touchdown is one of the more demoralizing stats for the Raiders though, and that’s saying something considering their near constant dysfunction for almost two decades now. The Oakland offense just can't get out of it’s own way though, and this game was a good example of that. The very first drive of the game the Raiders got all the way down to the 1 yard line and then turned it over on downs. The missing points on that drive were a huge difference in the game, had they been able to get even a field goal on that drive then the game wouldn’t have felt so out of reach towards the end. That’s not to blame Oakland for going for it there when they got stopped at the one though, they definitely had to try for the touchdown there. At 1-7 on the year you have nothing to lose, playing a division rival and having a chance to get an opening drive touchdown is something you can’t pass up. However, I do have a problem with the play calling to try and get that touchdown. If you are down to your last chance then you should call something that has more than one option to get where you need to go, the shovel pass play to Dwayne Harris was essentially a run and it did not surprise the Chargers at all. Neither did the 3 Doug Martin runs before that play. They had 4 plays from the 7 yard line https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-derek-carr-jersey , they did not give Carr a single play that had multiple reads for him to try and get that touchdown. Even though the shovel pass to Dwayne Harris technically counts as a pass, it still was this one thing works or nothing. Why put all your eggs in one basket? Call something that allows more options to get the touchdown in at least one of those 4 plays. The same type of problem happened at the end of the game too when Derek Carr gave up and threw the ball into the dirt on 4th and 5 on their last real chance in the game. In that play, when it was all or nothing on 4th down, the Raiders called a play designed to be reliant on one option. If that guy doesn’t get it done then the play fails, at least that’s what Derek Carr said about his decision on that play after the game.I disagree with Carr on his comments after the game, even trying to force the ball somewhere that it might get intercepted is still better than throwing it into the ground for a turnover on downs. The thing is though, he shouldn’t have been in that situation to begin with. When everything is on the line there is no excuse in calling a play with only one option that will work, spread the team out and increase your chances of success. The offense was able to get moving several times in this game against a very good Chargers defense but key mistakes doomed them too many times. Another one of those key mistakes was Derek Carr’s fumble on a strip sack at the start of the 2nd quarter. Oakland was in field goal range there when Carr got devastated by Melvin Ingram, and that led to the point swing at the end of the half that doomed the Raiders all together. At that point the Raiders felt like they had the momentum of the game, and they could have recaptured it with another solid drive after the defense came up with the big stop to force a field goal after the fumble. Instead they went 3 and out, and after that the Chargers got their end of half touchdown and start of second half touchdown. Just like that it was a 17 point swing LA’s way in a 20-6 loss. Still, at least it wasn’t an embarrassing loss. The Raiders had a chance against a quality team that has now won 6 games in a row, and the loss is better for them in their chance at the number 1 pick in next year’s draft. It would have been great to get the win anyway, but honestly it’s just nice that they were at least competitive.Lastly, shout out to rookie punter Johnny Townsend who had an outstanding game. His 42 yard scamper on the fake punt should have resulted in points for the Raiders if not for the goal line stand from the Chargers, but he also had a great day punting the ball. He could have and should have been let go by now but Gruden is showing faith that he can be a great punter, and Townsend rewarded that faith with an excellent day averaging 54 yards per punt. Now it’s on to the Arizona Cardinals next which is actually a huge game in figuring out the draft order because the Cardinals are also in the running for it with just 2 wins on the season. This is also the best chance the Raiders have at getting another win the rest of the way with a brutal end of year awaiting Oakland with Baltimore, KC twice, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Denver the remaining games on this awful 2018 season. This is a game that the Raiders need to play well in, because they don’t have a lot to look forward to the rest of the way. They certainly have the inside track for the top pick with that tough of a schedule, so if they are going to win another game this year they will need to do it next week against Arizona or odds are it won’t be happening.

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson isn’t overthinking things as he prepares for his first game on Sunday at New England since a season-ending knee injury last November. The key to being successful this year is simple.“Really just one thing Womens Martinas Rankin Jersey ,” he said. “Be me. That’s it.”That approach helped Watson excel immediately as a rookie last season when he took over for Tom Savage at halftime of Houston’s season opener. He made six starts after that and finished with 1,699 yards passing and 19 touchdowns before tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in practice in early November. His performance was a revelation for a team that has dealt with years of disappointment and inconsistency at quarterback, with the lowlight coming when the team signed Brock Osweiler to a $72 million contract in 2016 and traded him after just one tough season. This will be Watson’s second trip to New England after he and the Texans came up just short in a 36-33 loss there last year. Watson, who was the 12th overall pick in last year’s draft, threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns http://www.thetexanslockerroom.com/authentic-jon-weeks-jersey , but what he remembers most about that game are the two interceptions he threw.“We had the opportunity to put the game away and we didn’t,” he said. “Left too much time for Tom Brady. The interception I threw early on in the game. That was pretty much it.”Coach Bill O’Brien wasn’t surprised that Watson handled himself well in the tough environment in New England after he starred for Clemson while leading the Tigers to a national championship in the 2016 season.“From the time that he arrived here … he had really good poise, very smart guy,” O’Brien said. “This guy had beaten Alabama in the national championship game in front of 100,000 people on national television and almost did it the year before. I don’t think there was ever going to be any stage too big for him.”Though Watson’s rookie season was cut short Womens Jordan Akins Jersey , his injury didn’t end his learning and development. He was at the stadium almost every day, watching film and talking to coaches and players to try and get better.“When you get injured as a rookie, that’s a tough deal,” O’Brien said. “He approached it in a very professional manner. He got his rehab done. He would study tape. He’s been with us out on the field ever since the offseason program started on April 18. He’s worked diligently to get back to where he is right now.”Star receiver DeAndre Hopkins has dealt with a revolving door at quarterback, including playing with four different ones last season Justin Reid Jersey , since he was drafted in 2013. After what Watson did in limited work last year, Hopkins can’t wait to see what’s next for the 22-year-old.“I’m very excited,” Hopkins said. “I think everybody is, not just myself. He’s shown improvement, he’s matured a lot since last year.”Watson isn’t concerned about his surgically repaired knee holding up after performing well after having the same surgery on the other knee in 2014.He looked good in limited action in the preseason Johnathan Joseph Jersey White , but questions about his health will remain until Sunday when he plays a full game for the first time in more than 10 months.“(I) don’t worry about it,” he said. “I trust my preparation that I’ve put in, trust the rehab and the things I did over the summer to get back to this point and just go out there and cut it loose.” Texans coach Bill O’Brien repeatedly has said Will Fuller is “on the right track” in his rehab from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. O’Brien has never offered a timetable but said on Adam Schefter’s podcast the receiver has a chance to return by training camp.Fuller tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in an Oct. 25 game against the Dolphins. The Texans’ hopes at the position are built around Fuller and Keke Coutee remaining healthy to complement All-Pro DeAndre Hopkins.Fuller has played 11 games with Deshaun Watson. He has 11 touchdowns. But Fuller missed six games in 2017 and nine last season.“I think he’s doing really well,” O’Brien said of Fuller last week at the owners’ meetings. “He’s on a good track. He’s been in there every day. He works very hard. With his work ethic and his mindset — I’m not going to put a timetable on it — but I feel like he’s really moving in a good direction.”

After giving up 13 sacks in the first seven games of the season http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-theo-riddick-jersey , things have gone off the rails in pass protection for the Lions the last two weeks. They’ve allowed 16 sacks in lopsided losses to the Vikings and Bears that leave the Lions at 3-6 and looking up at the rest of the NFC North. It’s also led to questions about whether the constant pressure has led to a drop in play for quarterback Matthew Stafford.Stafford is on pace for career worsts on a variety of fronts, but offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter initially said that a perspective on how Stafford’s played is “sort of Detroit Lions information.” Cooter opened up a bit more on the topic of whether pressure was changing the quarterback’s play later in his media session.“No, Stafford’s a really tough guy,” Cooter said, via MLive.com.聽“Obviously offensively, I have to do a better job and we have to do a better job of protecting our quarterback through playcalling, scheme, execution, all those things. At the end of the day, we have to get that number down and do a better job with that. Stafford hangs in there. Stafford’s a tough guy. He’ll take a hit when needed. We just need to do a better job of protecting him. It starts with me Dwayne Washington Jersey White , I have to improve the way we’re going about doing that and fix some of those errors.”The Lions face the Panthers this week and Carolina’s defense has produced 22 sacks so far this season. If Detroit can’t stop them from padding that total, it’s hard to imagine a different result from the last couple of weeks. With LeGarrette Blount facing free agency after an inefficient year, the Detroit Lions are likely in the market for a complementary back alongside 2018 second-round draft pick Kerryon Johnson. While some are advocating for another draft pick this year, many believe the Lions will look to free agency to help round out their backfield. NFL Network analyst and Hall of Fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson is amongst the latter group, and he suggested the Lions go after one of the bigger names in free agency. Tomlinson believes the Detroit Lions are the best fit for four-time All Pro Adrian Peterson. “I just think they have a young kid in Kerryon Johnson, who I really like. Kerryon is going to be a stud in this league,” Tomlinson said on NFL Network’s “Total Access” this week. “But I think he can learn a lot from Adrian Peterson. Just the approach of how to be a pro, how to handle being a full-time running back.”Mentoring Johnson obviously has some intangible value to it. We saw veteran players like Ricky Jean Francois help develop defensive line talent that was struggling with a new system. However, Tomlinson suggests that Peterson will bring real value to the field, as well.“So I can see Adrian going to Detroit Sam Martin Jersey , mentoring that young kid, but also having a chance to continue to do his own thing and possibly pass yours truly (in the record books)” he said. Signing a 33-year-old running back is going to be a hard sell for most Lions fans, especially after last year’s plan to sign 31-year-old Blount failed so spectacularly. However, Peterson’s career has been a lot more successful than Blount’s, and he showed plenty of signs of life last year with Washington. Not only did Peterson hit the 1,000-yard mark for the first time since 2015, but he was quite efficient with his runs. He hit 4.2 yards per carry for the season, but, more importantly, he was an excellent short-yardage runner for Washington. On third-and-short Womens Jake Rudock Jersey , Peterson earned first down on 10 of 12 carries, the third best first-down percentage among running backs with at least 10 attempts. That is something the Lions—and Blount specifically—struggled with in 2018. Detroit converted just 61.9 percent (12 of 21) of such situations last year.Additionally appealing would be Peterson’s price. Last year, Washington was able to sign him for just a one-year, $1.05 million contract. That price may go up after an efficient year in Washington but probably not by a lot considering he will be 34 before the season starts. It’s an interesting idea from Tomlinson, and one at least worth some consideration. However, at some point, Peterson is going to hit that wall, if he hasn’t already. And considering the Lions swung and missed last year with an aging back, they may be more inclined to take a different strategy into 2019.

The Bengals get to head back home this week to host the Jaguars. If we are going solely based on the opposing team’s record http://www.cincinnatibengalsteamonline.com/anthony-munoz-jersey , this is the Bengals’ best shot at a win until after their bye week in Week 9, Cincinnati’s defense has gotten a pretty bad reputation this year, but aside from the 49ers game, they haven’t allowed a team to score more than 27 points. In fact, they have held teams to 23 points or lower three times this season. Meanwhile, the Bengals offense has only scored more than 20 points once this season. You can’t win many games in the NFL if your offense can consistently put up more than that. However, this wasn’t as bad as people expected as rookie sixth-round pick Gardner Minshew II came in and lit things up. He threw for nine touchdowns and only a single interception over his first five weeks.Last week it appeared the magic wore off a little bit against the Saints as the Jaguars only scored six points, and Minshew failed to throw a touchdown or complete 50 percent of his passes. Matt LaFleur was hired as the Packers head coach on the back of his work as an offensive assistant Josh Reynolds Jersey , but his record isn’t 1-0 because of the work done by his offense on Thursday night. The Packers defense held the Bears to 254 yards while sacking Mitchell Trubisky five times and intercepting him once in a 10-3 win at Soldier Field. The interception was made by safety Adrian Amos while Preston Smith had 1.5 sacks and Za'Darius Smith added another sack. All of those players were signed by General Manager Brian Gutekunst this offseason and LaFleur noted that activity while thanking the defense for bailing out an offense that was quiet outside of an impressive first half touchdown drive.“That defense was smothering,” LaFleur said, via Michael Silver of NFL Media. “It’s been awhile since a [Packers] defense came in saved the day. I’m so glad and thankful that Gutey invested in those guys. It was a great night for him, and for [defensive coordinator] Mike Pettine and our defensive staff . . . and our players, of course.”The Packers now head to Green Bay for three straight games and will host five of the next six contests. They’ll hope the offense makes strides, but will do so with confidence that the defense can hold its own while that unit finds its footing. Kirk Cousins was an eager young quarterback and Sean McVay was a precocious offensive coordinator when they got together in Washington. After they collaborated on two tremendously productive seasons, the partnership led to big things for both men: McVay became the NFL's youngest head coach in Los Angeles, and Cousins got an $84 million contract in Minnesota."I'm very grateful for having crossed paths with him," Cousins said. "And I'm always rooting for him. But certainly, though, we want to get the 'W' this week."Indeed John Johnson Jersey , they're getting back together Thursday night in a compelling early season NFC showdown between McVay's Rams (3-0) and Cousins' Vikings (1-1-1).And both say they wouldn't be there under the Coliseum lights without the other."I feel fortunate to have worked with Kirk," McVay said."Sometimes you hear people talk about not having the strongest arm or whatever, (but) I'm not sure what film they're watching," McVay added."He can make every single throw. I think he has the ability to speed it up with excellent twitch. He can change the launch point. So you're not limited in any way that you can utilize him. And I couldn't be happier for Kirk, and I'll be rooting for him the rest of the year after Thursday night."Their meeting will be an interesting barometer for both teams' early season fortunes. The Rams have been largely outstanding during their unbeaten start to a season that has picked up right where McVay's first team left off.But coach Mike Zimmer's Vikings defense gave perhaps the most impressive performance of last season against the high-octane Rams, who managed only one early touchdown from Todd Gurley in a 24-7 loss at Minnesota."We didn't run the ball as well as we had in other games against this defense," said Aaron Kromer, the Rams' running game coordinator. "They're a stout defense. They're built to stop the run. That's their No. 1 goal. ... We have to do a much better job. I think we're a lot smarter football team than we were in the past, so I hope that shows on Thursday night."More things to watch:WEEKNIGHT PARTYThe Rams realize Thursday afternoon isn't an ideal time to brave LA traffic for a football game at a stadium undergoing renovation that has severely curtailed its parking and tailgating. So they're trying to make this important NFC game into a civic duty: McVay sent out a funny "memo" through newspapers and social media to all employers in Los Angeles, urging them to allow their employees to leave work early so they can head downtown for the 5:20 p.m. local start time — which he says is the "typical bedtime" of his 71-year-old defensive coordinator, Wade Phillips. They also got Vanessa Hudgens to sing the national anthem Gerald Everett Jersey , while Compton rapper YG will perform in the second quarter.EARLY DEPARTUREThe Vikings flew to Los Angeles on Tuesday evening, hoping to better acclimate to the two-time-zone change. The Vikings are 1-5 in Thursday night road games, winning only at Dallas in 1978. Traveling cross-country to play one of the NFL's best teams with three days of rest is a daunting task."Yeah, it's a problem," coach Mike Zimmer said. "We haven't had a home game on a short week since I've been here in five years. But you play the schedule how it is."NOT A FANThe Rams are also unenthused about their short-week schedule, although they're grateful they got to stay home for it. McVay joked that he's running on "maybe two" hours of sleep per night. Last weekend, Gurley summed up many players' feelings about Thursday football: "It's the dumbest thing ever."GOING WITHOUT GRIFFENThe Vikings will play without defensive end Everson Griffen, a captain and three-time Pro Bowl pick. The former USC star won't make his Coliseum return while he is sidelined indefinitely for treatment of mental illness following a pattern of erratic and threatening behavior. With players, coaches and staff concerned about Griffen's well-being, the show must go on. Stephen Weatherly had his first career sack against the Bills while starting in place of Griffen.INJURED CORNERSThe Rams have bigger problems than a late start time: Their star-studded defense is suddenly short-handed after former Pro Bowl cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters both incurred injuries in last week's win over the Chargers.Talib needs ankle surgery and will be out for at least eight weeks. Peters' calf injury isn't so serious, but still might keep him out. The Rams are likely to go against Cousins with backup cornerbacks including Sam Shields John Kelly Jersey , Troy Hill and Nickell Robey-Coleman."I feel like we're going to be great," Robey-Coleman said. "I can't take away from the hard work that every guy on this depth chart put in to get an opportunity to get on the field."SLOW STARTAfter ranking seventh in the NFL last season in yards rushing, the Vikings are next-to-last with just 66 yards per game, although they've been throwing excessively with two late deficits in their first three games. There still hasn't been much room for Dalvin Cook or Latavius Murray to run, and going against the Rams' stout defensive line won't help. Pat Elflein will return to the starting lineup at center, his rehab from offseason surgeries finally complete."We're not in panic mode. We're not in that," said Cook, who is expected to play after sitting out last week's loss to Buffalo. "We're going to get this thing going. It's just a matter of time."AP Sports Writer Dave Campbell in Minneapolis contributed to this report.

Downing-USA TODAY SportsSince the Kansas City Chiefs announced Steve Spagnuolo as their defensive coordinator, the questions I’ve been asked the most have almost all revolved around the SAM linebacker position. Is that player on the roster? Does ___________ fit as the SAM? Who in the draft can fill that position? It’s a current hole on that side of the ball, and one that could go many different ways.Spagnuolo has typically used a lighter EDGE defender player and one that isn’t necessarily an exceptional athlete. He’s found players late in the draft or free agent cast-offs to fill that role well enough. He just needed a player that could stop the run, cover short distances and rush the passer — but not one that was necessarily elite or even great at any of the three tasks. Teams he’s coached haven’t spent money on that type of player because finding someone who is very good at all facets of the game is a piece that traditionally doesn’t find the open market or is very expensive.Enter Jamie Collins.A former Patriots linebacker — 20 games played with current Chiefs defensive line coach Brendan Daly in 2015-16 — Collins was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2016 for a third-round pick. He was promptly paid a four-year, $50 million contract by the Browns and proceeded to be a major contributor in an underrated front. However, that contract was deemed too hefty for the Browns new coaching staff and general manager John Dorsey this season, leading to the release of the linebacker to save $9.25 million against the cap in 2019.With Collins on the open market, let’s take a quick look at how he’d handle some of the responsibilities he’d be tasked with as a SAM linebacker in the Chiefs defensive front.CoverageCoverage responsibilities for the SAM linebacker are mainly short-zone responsibilities and some man responsibilities against tight ends. In the above snap — on third-and-short — Collins is lined up in the box opposite a tight end in 22 personnel. The box safety is lined up to the outside of Collins, mirroring the boundary tight end. This is a 4-3 under look, with Collins lined up as the SAM linebacker. The ball is snapped and he identifies pass, dropping into a short zone to rob the tight end’s route. When Joe Flacco rolls out and decides to run, Collins shows off his exceptional closing speed to force the quarterback to make a business decision short of the sticks.Collins shows the range required to man up against tight ends in coverage, something that the Chiefs linebackers have either struggled with or weren’t asked to do in the previous couple years. Above, Collins reads a flat route by Cincinnati Bengals tight end CJ Uzomah — a player that the Chiefs covered with Jordan Lucas and Ron Parker in 2018 — and jumps it in the flat. His burst puts him in the throwing lane, and he should have intercepted the pass. These two types of routes — carrying a receiver vertically/robbing the route underneath andman coverage in the flats — are the typical coverage responsibilities for a SAM linebacker in a 4-3 under. Collins shows the ability to do both well, so the coverage box is checked.Run defenseThe speed and quick play ID Collins shows in coverage also translates well to his run defense. His ability to flash off the edge and force blockers to miss pays dividends on the above play. The Denver Broncos line up in a 3x1 bunch formation, and Collins aligns himself outside of the bunch. The motion draws a coverage defender away Rashad Fenton Jersey nfl draft , and the Broncos attempt a toss sweep to the field. Collins sees the play developing and immediately gets upfield ahead of the pulling blocker and the wide receiver. Philip Lindsay is stopped in the backfield for a 7-yard loss, and he didn’t have an opportunity to try to make Collins miss.Collins isn’t just pure speed trying to defend the run, and that’s one of the reasons why he would be a good fit as the SAM. As the Ravens motion a second tight end to Collins’ side of the field, he adjusts his alignment and anchors against the double team. As the run comes to his side of the field, his ability to occupy both blockers without giving up ground allows the force defender and the off-ball linebackers to attack gaps without dealing with blockers on the outside zone run. Yardage is limited, and it’s in no small part to Collins’ work on the edge.A good combination of speed and strength gives Collins the versatility to operate as a strong run defender on the edge of the formation — a key for the SAM linebacker in the 4-3 under.Pass rushThe final piece of the puzzle for a SAM linebacker in a 4-3 under is some pass-rush ability. The SAM typically isn’t a player that excels in pass rush — those players are placed in a position to rush the passer more often — but one who has just enough ability to blitz off the edge and enough rush technique to get the better of a blocker. In this well-designed blitz, Collins flashes his speed up the arc to net himself a sack on Oakland Raider quarterback Derek Carr. Lined up opposite Jordy Nelson in the slot, Collins waits for the defensive end to cross the face of the right tackle, forcing the tackle inside momentarily to pass the end off to the right guard. The right tackle tries to shuffle back to pick up a blitzing Collins, but he’s too fast up the arc and into the backfield. With Spagnuolo’s aggressive blitzing schemes, the pressure will come from everywhere on the front. Having a SAM linebacker that can blitz off the edge and get home against a quarterback that gets the ball out very quickly is a major boon to the blitz packages that he could dial up regularly.Scott R. Galvin-USA TODAY SportsCollins checks all the boxes for a 4-3 under SAM linebacker. He would add some much-needed speed to the linebacker corps, and his versatility would give Spagnuolo yet another tool to utilize at his disposal. Collins’ experience playing as an off-ball linebacker also comes in handy in both a rotational role and as desperately needed depth, should the Chiefs suffer an injury to Anthony Hitchens.Unfortunately, that versatility will make him prized by just about team in the league. Collins was due $10 million and $12 million over the next two years, not cheap. He is 28 years old, leaving plenty of time for a team to invest in him and get high-level play — and outside of a torn MCL in 2017, he’s been very healthy.Collins would likely come slightly cheaper than another free agent SAM candidate in Anthony Barr Rashad Fenton Jersey Womens , but he’s still likely to command a pretty penny in the open market. If the Chiefs felt like spending some money to get more athletic and versatile in Spagnuolo’s fronts, they could make a play for Collins. However, with Hitchens already on the books and other holes that need filled — along with Spagnuolo’s typical reluctance to spend big on the position — another expensive linebacker doesn’t seem like a move the Chiefs will make, even if the fit is perfect. But if you’ll allow me this one fleeting moment, I’d like to dream about a versatile front that includes Collins. I’ll be in my happy place. DETROIT (AP) — Patrick Mahomes made more plays than usual with his legs because the Detroit Lions set up their defense to limit what the superstar quarterback could do with his arm.Mahomes converted a fourth down with a run to extend a game-winning drive that ended with Darrel Williams‘ 1-yard touchdown run with 23 seconds left for his second score in the fourth quarter, lifting the Kansas City Chiefs to a 34-30 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday.“With what they were doing, there were lanes to run,” Mahomes said. “I saw a lane and I took it.”Article continues below ...The reigning MVP had thrown at least two touchdown passes in 14 straight games, one short of the NFL record set by Peyton Manning. And, he was the first player in league history to have at least 350 yards passing and three touchdowns without an interception in three straight games before getting slowed down in Detroit.“They found a way to take away some of the stuff that we like to do,” said Mahomes, who was 24 of 42 for 315 yards. “They hadn’t lost a game for a reason.”Kansas City (4-0) stayed undefeated after starting its game-winning drive on the 21 with 2:25 left. Facing fourth-and-8 from the Chiefs 34, Mahomes dropped back briefly before busting through a hole up the middle for 15 yards to help him finish with a career-high 56 yards rushing.“When they start doubling people, there are going to be some lanes and he knew that,” coach Andy Reid said. The Lions (2-1-1) were determined to take away big plays in Kansas City’s passing game, doubling tight end Travis Kelce and receiver Sammy Watkins with some success. The scheme, though Rashad Fenton Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys , cleared space for Mahomes to run and coach Matt Patricia doesn’t regret it.“If he goes back there and throws it vertical with some of the speed that he has, then I’m not going to be happy,” he said. The plan almost worked.Kansas City went ahead for the first time early in the third quarter when Bashaud Breeland recovered Kerryon Johnson’s fumble and returned it 100 yards, taking advantage of everyone on the field appearing to stop momentarily and the officials not blowing a whistle. The pivotal play stood after review.“We preach that every day,” Breeland said. “You pick up the ball at the end, whether it’s alive or dead. You never know.”The Lions scored the first 10 points and after Kansas City pulled into two ties, they went back ahead late in the second, third and fourth quarters.Stafford threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Golladay with 2:26 left to give Detroit a 30-27 lead. The call on the field stood after a review, which showed Golladay got both feet in the end zone. Golladay had a touchdown overturned by review early in the third because it was ruled he did not maintain control of the ball throughout the process of the catch.Stafford was 21 of 34 for 291 yards with three touchdowns, including two to Golladay and one to T.J. Hockenson. Stafford’s second touchdown pass of the game — and first to Golladay — put Detroit up 23-20 and followed a fifth fumble in the third quarter.“There were a bunch of great plays made in this game, a couple bad plays by each team made in this game,” Stafford said. “That’s the way it goes in the NFL. It came down to the last 15 seconds. They were undefeated coming into this game. So were we. Somebody was going to have to lose“It was a good opportunity to beat a good team, and we were darn close.”WHAT A PLAYMahomes opened the fourth with a 10-yard pass to Kelce, who pitched a lateral to LeSean McCoy and he picked up another 23 yards on a play that wasn’t planned.HOT POTATOThe Chiefs lost three fumbles and Detroit gave it back twice with fumbles in the third quarter, combining for the most fumbles lost in a game since 2014. GREEN BAY Youth Damien Harris Jersey , Wisconsin (AP) — The Cincinnati Bengals came so close to breaking through for a win.Instead they found a new way to lose. The offense wasn’t entirely to blame.A defense that had contained quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers’ potent offense in the first half fell apart late in a 27-24 loss in overtime on Sunday.“A disappointment is not finishing a football game now,” coach Marvin Lewis said. The Bengals are 0-3 for the first time since 2008.Mason Crosby kicked the decisive 27-yard field goal with 6:26 left in overtime to complete the Packers’ comeback from a 21-7 halftime deficit. The game-winner was set up by Rodgers’ 72-yard pass to Geronimo Allison that came on a free play.Defensive end Michael Johnson was whistled for offside on third-and-10 from the Packers 21. Officials let the play continue and the two-time NFL MVP found Allison on about a 40-yard pass before the receiver beat a couple defenders for more yards.Rodgers also connected with Jordy Nelson for a 3-yard touchdown pass with 17 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 24, completing a 12-play, 75-yard drive. Cornerback Dre Kilpatrick narrowly missed batting away the bullet thrown by the quarterback into the front right corner of the end zone.“Far too many chunk plays against a good quarterback like that. That ended up being the difference in the football game,” Lewis said.At least the offense showed signs of life, especially early in the game.A.J. Green caught a 10-yard scoring pass on the game’s opening drive for Cincinnati’s first touchdown after two frustrating weeks for the offense. Bill Lazor made his debut as offensive coordinator for the fired Ken Zampese.Andy Dalton was 21 of 27 for 212 yards and two scores for the Bengals. Dalton was targeting his best playmaker early, just like the star receiver had hoped following the Week 2 loss to Houston. Green caught 10 of 13 targets for 111 yards. Then the Packers started getting to Dalton a little more in the second half. The Bengals’ backfield-by-committee rushing attack combined for 30 carries for 110 yards Womens Damien Harris Jersey , with rookie Joe Mixon leading the way with 18 carries for 62 yards.Patriots work out WR Breshad Perriman If the Patriots’ current snakebit situation at...every position that doesn’t throw the ball already has you in a bad mood this week, maybe just skip this and start your weekend early: Let’s Pro/Con this situation:CON: Literally anything on his Pro Football Reference pagePRO: Caught TDs from the BOAT, Blake Bortles. Maybe something rubbed off?If you looked at the Ravens taking Perriman with a first-round pick in 2015 kind of like your dog looks at you when you put the ball behind your back and then hold your hand out again, it wasn’t just you. After not participating in the NFL Combine because of an injured hamstring and not exactly facing the best of the best at UCF, Breshad shot back up draft boards with a 4.25 40-yard-dash at UCF’s Pro Day. NFL.com’s draft profile projected him at a first-round pick after that, while noting that Breshad was “...raw in his routes, relying on speed and athleticism over any precision”.Basically Authentic Damien Harris Jersey , this totally would’ve been a Raiders pick a few years ago.If that doesn’t sound familiar, their comparison for Perriman’s measurables and tape was...wait for it...Josh Gordon. To date, Perriman’s got 576 receiving yards, 43 receptions on 101 targets, and 3 touchdowns. He’s started 4 games.Sorry, that was probably misleading, those are his career numbers so far Damien Harris Jersey Boys , not this year or last year or anything. He also spent almost a whole week with the football team from Washington earlier this month, but got waived on September 22nd.It’d be easy to just figure this is more of the Patriots filling out their BREAK GLASS IN CASE OF EMERGENCY list, but, I mean, what would you call scoring 30 points in the last two games?
