Benzschawel is an old-school Wisconsin offensive lineman who could appeal to the Giants’ old-school general manager. Brown was a clear upgrade over Patrick Omameh at the position, but still had his struggles throughout the second half of the season. If the Giants don’t believe that improved play at center and right tackle will help Brown to play better, and are looking for a people-moving guard who can act as an anvil to Will Hernandez’s hammer, then it makes sense for them to give Benzschawel a look. He isn’t likely to light up the 2019 NFL Scouting combine, and probably won’t be considered “scheme diverse.” It wouldn’t be surprising to see him slip some in the draft, and he could present solid value early on Day 3 of the draft.
