BERLIN -- Nearly six months after sustaining serious head injuries in a skiing accident, seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher left a French hospital on Monday and was transferred to neighbouring Switzerland to continue his recovery. Julien Gauthier Jersey . Schumacher "is not in a coma anymore," his manager, Sabine Kehm, said in a brief statement announcing that the German driver had left the Grenoble University Hospital, where he had been treated since his accident Dec. 29. Kehm gave no further details of his condition or medical outlook, saying only that he would "continue his long phase of rehabilitation." Schumacher left the Grenoble hospital Monday morning, said hospital spokeswoman Brigitte Polikar, who declined to give any details on his condition. He was transferred to the Lausanne University Hospital, near the Schumacher familys Swiss home. Hospital spokesman Darcy Christen confirmed the 45-year-old German was admitted but stressed that the facility wants "to ensure that he and his family fully enjoy privacy and medical confidentiality." Schumachers accident happened on a family vacation as Schumacher was skiing with his 14-year-old son at the Meribel ski resort in the French Alps. He hit the right side of his head on a rock, cracking his helmet. Doctors operated to remove blood clots from his brain, but some were left because they were too deeply embedded. Schumachers condition stabilized after he was placed in a drug-induced coma. In late January, doctors began the process of withdrawing sedatives to try to wake him up. Over recent months, little information has been released on Schumachers condition. Mondays announcement was the first substantial update since Kehm said in early April that Schumacher "shows moments of consciousness and awakening." The family "would like to explicitly thank all his treating doctors, nurses and therapists in Grenoble as well as the first aiders at the place of the accident, who did an excellent job in those first months," Kehms latest statement said. "The family also wishes to thank all the people who have sent Michael all the many good wishes. ... We are sure it helped him," it added. "For the future we ask for understanding that his further rehabilitation will take place away from the public eye," it added. Much remains unclear about Schumachers future as well as the length and extent of his recovery. "If hes been released from the hospital he was in, it means hes able to support his own breathing and bodily functions," said Dr. Tipu Aziz, a professor of neurosurgery at Oxford Universitys John Radcliffe Hospital. The fact that Schumacher is going into rehabilitation "suggests theres been long-term side effects of his injury," he added. "With rehabilitation, theyll try to train him to cope with the disabilities that hes got to achieve as much life function as possible," Aziz said. "If hes had a brain injury, he may have weakness in his limbs secondary to loss of brain function. He may have problems with speech and swallowing." He said that "rehabilitation would probably take a good few months" but noted that Schumacher was an athlete before his accident "so was in good shape." Schumacher earned universal acclaim for his uncommon and sometimes ruthless driving talent, which led to a record 91 race wins. He retired from F1 racing in 2012 after an unmatched seven world titles. The Mercedes team, for which Schumacher raced in the last three years of his career, posted on Twitter: "Encouraging news on Michaels condition this morning. We couldnt ask for a better start to the week." That was echoed by former world champion and Schumacher rival Fernando Alonso, who tweeted: "Good start of the week with the news of Michael! So happy this is going in the good direction!" Germany midfielder Lukas Podolski also took to Twitter hours before his teams opening World Cup match, writing: "What a great news!!! Get well soon Schumi!!! Im so glad and happy when I just heard it!!" Petr Mrazek Jersey . They know how difficult it is to beat the San Antonio Spurs. George scored 28 points and Indiana defeated San Antonio 111-100 on Saturday night, snapping an 11-game skid against the Spurs. "It means a lot," George said. "We havent won here since 2002. So it definitely means that were onto something. Something great is going on in here, if we just continue to keep on this path, we have a positive future." David West had 20 points and Lance Stephenson scored 15 for the Pacers, who enjoyed a 41-34 rebounding edge. Roy Hibbert and Luis Scola each had 12 points and 10 boards. "I couldnt be happier with how they played, particularly in the second and third quarter," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. "Second quarter, getting back in the game, but in the third quarter, really busting it open. Tough to pick a star in the game with as many contributions as we got. Just great balance and a great team win." Kawhi Leonard scored 18 points for San Antonio, which has dropped three of five. Manu Ginobili added 16 points, Tony Parker had 13 and Tim Duncan finished with 10. Indiana had lost 12 straight in San Antonio and appeared headed for a bakers dozen early on. Ginobilis 3-pointer with 9:46 remaining in the first half gave the Spurs a 35-22 lead. It was their largest lead, but also the start of the teams fall as the Pacers starting five overwhelmed their counterparts. "We give a lot of credit to Indiana," Parker said. "They just played better than us." Indiana closed the first half on a 30-18 run and opened the second half with a 12-2 spree. "We had a good first quarter," Duncan said. "Second quarter they started making some shots and we werent able to keep up. We went cold, they heated up and got a liittle lead there. Calvin De Haan Jersey. We just couldnt recover." Georges 3 gave the Pacers an 85-62 lead with 46.3 seconds left in the third. He was 4 for 4 from long range and also had six assists. George had nine points in the third quarter, and the teams starters had all but two of Indianas points in a 35-17 period. "We knew it was a long game," George said. "This is one team that never thinks were out of a game, no matter what the circumstances are. But we knew that we had to get stops and we had to match their energy." San Antonio held a 23-8 edge in second-chance points and a 34-26 advantage in points in the paint, but Indiana attempted 22 more free throws. The Pacers went 26 for 28 at the line, compared to 5 for 6 for the Spurs. "If you lose, you were less aggressive, and you didnt have the effort; thats all baloney," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. "Thats psycho-babble. You dont think Patty Mills and those guys played hard? You dont think Timmy tried to play hard? Thats silly. They played better than we did. Its got nothing to do with effort."
