Matt LaFleur was hired as the Packers head coach on the back of his work as an offensive assistant Josh Reynolds Jersey , but his record isn’t 1-0 because of the work done by his offense on Thursday night. The Packers defense held the Bears to 254 yards while sacking Mitchell Trubisky five times and intercepting him once in a 10-3 win at Soldier Field. The interception was made by safety Adrian Amos while Preston Smith had 1.5 sacks and Za'Darius Smith added another sack. All of those players were signed by General Manager Brian Gutekunst this offseason and LaFleur noted that activity while thanking the defense for bailing out an offense that was quiet outside of an impressive first half touchdown drive.“That defense was smothering,” LaFleur said, via Michael Silver of NFL Media. “It’s been awhile since a [Packers] defense came in saved the day. I’m so glad and thankful that Gutey invested in those guys. It was a great night for him, and for [defensive coordinator] Mike Pettine and our defensive staff . . . and our players, of course.”The Packers now head to Green Bay for three straight games and will host five of the next six contests. They’ll hope the offense makes strides, but will do so with confidence that the defense can hold its own while that unit finds its footing. Kirk Cousins was an eager young quarterback and Sean McVay was a precocious offensive coordinator when they got together in Washington. After they collaborated on two tremendously productive seasons, the partnership led to big things for both men: McVay became the NFL's youngest head coach in Los Angeles, and Cousins got an $84 million contract in Minnesota."I'm very grateful for having crossed paths with him," Cousins said. "And I'm always rooting for him. But certainly, though, we want to get the 'W' this week."Indeed John Johnson Jersey , they're getting back together Thursday night in a compelling early season NFC showdown between McVay's Rams (3-0) and Cousins' Vikings (1-1-1).And both say they wouldn't be there under the Coliseum lights without the other."I feel fortunate to have worked with Kirk," McVay said."Sometimes you hear people talk about not having the strongest arm or whatever, (but) I'm not sure what film they're watching," McVay added."He can make every single throw. I think he has the ability to speed it up with excellent twitch. He can change the launch point. So you're not limited in any way that you can utilize him. And I couldn't be happier for Kirk, and I'll be rooting for him the rest of the year after Thursday night."Their meeting will be an interesting barometer for both teams' early season fortunes. The Rams have been largely outstanding during their unbeaten start to a season that has picked up right where McVay's first team left off.But coach Mike Zimmer's Vikings defense gave perhaps the most impressive performance of last season against the high-octane Rams, who managed only one early touchdown from Todd Gurley in a 24-7 loss at Minnesota."We didn't run the ball as well as we had in other games against this defense," said Aaron Kromer, the Rams' running game coordinator. "They're a stout defense. They're built to stop the run. That's their No. 1 goal. ... We have to do a much better job. I think we're a lot smarter football team than we were in the past, so I hope that shows on Thursday night."More things to watch:WEEKNIGHT PARTYThe Rams realize Thursday afternoon isn't an ideal time to brave LA traffic for a football game at a stadium undergoing renovation that has severely curtailed its parking and tailgating. So they're trying to make this important NFC game into a civic duty: McVay sent out a funny "memo" through newspapers and social media to all employers in Los Angeles, urging them to allow their employees to leave work early so they can head downtown for the 5:20 p.m. local start time — which he says is the "typical bedtime" of his 71-year-old defensive coordinator, Wade Phillips. They also got Vanessa Hudgens to sing the national anthem Gerald Everett Jersey , while Compton rapper YG will perform in the second quarter.EARLY DEPARTUREThe Vikings flew to Los Angeles on Tuesday evening, hoping to better acclimate to the two-time-zone change. The Vikings are 1-5 in Thursday night road games, winning only at Dallas in 1978. Traveling cross-country to play one of the NFL's best teams with three days of rest is a daunting task."Yeah, it's a problem," coach Mike Zimmer said. "We haven't had a home game on a short week since I've been here in five years. But you play the schedule how it is."NOT A FANThe Rams are also unenthused about their short-week schedule, although they're grateful they got to stay home for it. McVay joked that he's running on "maybe two" hours of sleep per night. Last weekend, Gurley summed up many players' feelings about Thursday football: "It's the dumbest thing ever."GOING WITHOUT GRIFFENThe Vikings will play without defensive end Everson Griffen, a captain and three-time Pro Bowl pick. The former USC star won't make his Coliseum return while he is sidelined indefinitely for treatment of mental illness following a pattern of erratic and threatening behavior. With players, coaches and staff concerned about Griffen's well-being, the show must go on. Stephen Weatherly had his first career sack against the Bills while starting in place of Griffen.INJURED CORNERSThe Rams have bigger problems than a late start time: Their star-studded defense is suddenly short-handed after former Pro Bowl cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters both incurred injuries in last week's win over the Chargers.Talib needs ankle surgery and will be out for at least eight weeks. Peters' calf injury isn't so serious, but still might keep him out. The Rams are likely to go against Cousins with backup cornerbacks including Sam Shields John Kelly Jersey , Troy Hill and Nickell Robey-Coleman."I feel like we're going to be great," Robey-Coleman said. "I can't take away from the hard work that every guy on this depth chart put in to get an opportunity to get on the field."SLOW STARTAfter ranking seventh in the NFL last season in yards rushing, the Vikings are next-to-last with just 66 yards per game, although they've been throwing excessively with two late deficits in their first three games. There still hasn't been much room for Dalvin Cook or Latavius Murray to run, and going against the Rams' stout defensive line won't help. Pat Elflein will return to the starting lineup at center, his rehab from offseason surgeries finally complete."We're not in panic mode. We're not in that," said Cook, who is expected to play after sitting out last week's loss to Buffalo. "We're going to get this thing going. It's just a matter of time."AP Sports Writer Dave Campbell in Minneapolis contributed to this report.
Longtime NFL defensive tackle Roy Miller said he did nothing wrong after being charged with child abuse Khalen Saunders Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys , and his lawyer said it was a byproduct of a messy divorce.Miller was released on his own recognizance yesterday, after being charged with a misdemeanor charge of child abuse with a personal or special weapon.Upon his release from jail after 14 hours, he told WJXT there was nothing to see.“Everybody’s fine,” Miller said. “I’m not guilty. . . . I have nothing else to say.”His attorney, Ashley Wells Cox, did.“Mr. Miller did not commit child abuse Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys 2019 ,” a statement read. “He has been involved in a difficult and contentious divorce. We are concerned that Mrs. Miller uses any opportunity to gain leverage in that case, and it is equally disappointing that a parent can be arrested for a felony for a bruise on the buttocks of someone’s own child.”Miller retired from the NFL after he was arrested on domestic violence charges in 2017, and was subsequently released by the Chiefs. He completed a pre-trial diversion program, his wife filed for divorce, and filed for a protective order. He accused her of ruining his career.Miller also played for the Buccaneers and Jaguars during a nine-year NFL career. He is under federal indictment for attempting to extort more than $1 million from Mathieu to prevent Sears from publicly releasing allegations of sexual misconduct against Mathieu. Court documents in the case allege that Sears contacted Mathieu by phone and text, demanding amounts ranging from $1.5 million to $5 million for his silence.Sears is also accused of making threats against Mathieu’s family in those communications.Sears was originally released on $25,000 bond after his arrest earlier this week, but it was revoked after Wednesday’s hearing revealed he had removed the ankle monitor he was required to wear while free on bond.During that hearing, Sears’ attorneys Claude Kelly and Celia Rhoads presented testimony from two witnesses — Sears’ brother George and his mother Toya Robinson — alleging that Mathieu had made threats against them via text and social media as well. While the communications that resulted in the charges against Sears are not part of the public record Khalen Saunders Jersey Mens , the messages Sears’ family say contained threats against them are available. They were published by The New Orleans Advocate on Thursday. The messages are the basis for the family’s claim on Wednesday that Mathieu had threatened them. According to reporting from New Orleans television station WDSU, Sears’ family testified in the bond revocation hearing that Sears’ actions were in response to the threats from Mathieu they believed were contained in these messages. The Advocate story speculated that the messages presented in court may represent a preview of the defense Sears might offer when and if the case comes to trial; Sears has not yet made a plea in the charge against him.Under the federal statute for extortion, it’s unclear such a defense would carry much weight: Under 18 U.S. Code § 875 (d), it is a federal crime to extort “any money or other thing of value“ to prevent “any threat to injure the property or reputation” of another via interstate commerce — in this case, a cell phone. If the Sears family believed Mathieu had threatened them, they could have gone to the authorities themselves — rather than commit another crime.Under the same section of the U.S. Code Khalen Saunders Jersey nfl draft , even the threat to injure another person via interstate communication is also a crime. In conclusionMathieu’s agent Denise White released a statement describing the matter as a “very private and personal family issue,” saying that Mathieu was “dealing with a family member who is dealing with a mental health issue.”Sears’ attorney said in court on Wednesday that Geourvon and George Sears lived with Mathieu during the time he played for the Arizona Cardinals from 2013 through 2017, but moved back to New Orleans when Mathieu went to the Houston Texans in 2018.Mathieu’s attorney Scott Rosenblum released a statement saying, “Once Mr. Mathieu decided to stop assisting these individuals financially, they turned to harassment, slander and extortion to gain financially.”It remains to be seen if this is a case where an actual crime has been committed Eric Murray Jersey , or if it is simply a sad example of a family dispute over money that went horribly off the rails.Sears’ next court appearance is scheduled for June 21.

Downing-USA TODAY SportsSince the Kansas City Chiefs announced Steve Spagnuolo as their defensive coordinator, the questions I’ve been asked the most have almost all revolved around the SAM linebacker position. Is that player on the roster? Does ___________ fit as the SAM? Who in the draft can fill that position? It’s a current hole on that side of the ball, and one that could go many different ways.Spagnuolo has typically used a lighter EDGE defender player and one that isn’t necessarily an exceptional athlete. He’s found players late in the draft or free agent cast-offs to fill that role well enough. He just needed a player that could stop the run, cover short distances and rush the passer — but not one that was necessarily elite or even great at any of the three tasks. Teams he’s coached haven’t spent money on that type of player because finding someone who is very good at all facets of the game is a piece that traditionally doesn’t find the open market or is very expensive.Enter Jamie Collins.A former Patriots linebacker — 20 games played with current Chiefs defensive line coach Brendan Daly in 2015-16 — Collins was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2016 for a third-round pick. He was promptly paid a four-year, $50 million contract by the Browns and proceeded to be a major contributor in an underrated front. However, that contract was deemed too hefty for the Browns new coaching staff and general manager John Dorsey this season, leading to the release of the linebacker to save $9.25 million against the cap in 2019.With Collins on the open market, let’s take a quick look at how he’d handle some of the responsibilities he’d be tasked with as a SAM linebacker in the Chiefs defensive front.CoverageCoverage responsibilities for the SAM linebacker are mainly short-zone responsibilities and some man responsibilities against tight ends. In the above snap — on third-and-short — Collins is lined up in the box opposite a tight end in 22 personnel. The box safety is lined up to the outside of Collins, mirroring the boundary tight end. This is a 4-3 under look, with Collins lined up as the SAM linebacker. The ball is snapped and he identifies pass, dropping into a short zone to rob the tight end’s route. When Joe Flacco rolls out and decides to run, Collins shows off his exceptional closing speed to force the quarterback to make a business decision short of the sticks.Collins shows the range required to man up against tight ends in coverage, something that the Chiefs linebackers have either struggled with or weren’t asked to do in the previous couple years. Above, Collins reads a flat route by Cincinnati Bengals tight end CJ Uzomah — a player that the Chiefs covered with Jordan Lucas and Ron Parker in 2018 — and jumps it in the flat. His burst puts him in the throwing lane, and he should have intercepted the pass. These two types of routes — carrying a receiver vertically/robbing the route underneath andman coverage in the flats — are the typical coverage responsibilities for a SAM linebacker in a 4-3 under. Collins shows the ability to do both well, so the coverage box is checked.Run defenseThe speed and quick play ID Collins shows in coverage also translates well to his run defense. His ability to flash off the edge and force blockers to miss pays dividends on the above play. The Denver Broncos line up in a 3x1 bunch formation, and Collins aligns himself outside of the bunch. The motion draws a coverage defender away Rashad Fenton Jersey nfl draft , and the Broncos attempt a toss sweep to the field. Collins sees the play developing and immediately gets upfield ahead of the pulling blocker and the wide receiver. Philip Lindsay is stopped in the backfield for a 7-yard loss, and he didn’t have an opportunity to try to make Collins miss.Collins isn’t just pure speed trying to defend the run, and that’s one of the reasons why he would be a good fit as the SAM. As the Ravens motion a second tight end to Collins’ side of the field, he adjusts his alignment and anchors against the double team. As the run comes to his side of the field, his ability to occupy both blockers without giving up ground allows the force defender and the off-ball linebackers to attack gaps without dealing with blockers on the outside zone run. Yardage is limited, and it’s in no small part to Collins’ work on the edge.A good combination of speed and strength gives Collins the versatility to operate as a strong run defender on the edge of the formation — a key for the SAM linebacker in the 4-3 under.Pass rushThe final piece of the puzzle for a SAM linebacker in a 4-3 under is some pass-rush ability. The SAM typically isn’t a player that excels in pass rush — those players are placed in a position to rush the passer more often — but one who has just enough ability to blitz off the edge and enough rush technique to get the better of a blocker. In this well-designed blitz, Collins flashes his speed up the arc to net himself a sack on Oakland Raider quarterback Derek Carr. Lined up opposite Jordy Nelson in the slot, Collins waits for the defensive end to cross the face of the right tackle, forcing the tackle inside momentarily to pass the end off to the right guard. The right tackle tries to shuffle back to pick up a blitzing Collins, but he’s too fast up the arc and into the backfield. With Spagnuolo’s aggressive blitzing schemes, the pressure will come from everywhere on the front. Having a SAM linebacker that can blitz off the edge and get home against a quarterback that gets the ball out very quickly is a major boon to the blitz packages that he could dial up regularly.Scott R. Galvin-USA TODAY SportsCollins checks all the boxes for a 4-3 under SAM linebacker. He would add some much-needed speed to the linebacker corps, and his versatility would give Spagnuolo yet another tool to utilize at his disposal. Collins’ experience playing as an off-ball linebacker also comes in handy in both a rotational role and as desperately needed depth, should the Chiefs suffer an injury to Anthony Hitchens.Unfortunately, that versatility will make him prized by just about team in the league. Collins was due $10 million and $12 million over the next two years, not cheap. He is 28 years old, leaving plenty of time for a team to invest in him and get high-level play — and outside of a torn MCL in 2017, he’s been very healthy.Collins would likely come slightly cheaper than another free agent SAM candidate in Anthony Barr Rashad Fenton Jersey Womens , but he’s still likely to command a pretty penny in the open market. If the Chiefs felt like spending some money to get more athletic and versatile in Spagnuolo’s fronts, they could make a play for Collins. However, with Hitchens already on the books and other holes that need filled — along with Spagnuolo’s typical reluctance to spend big on the position — another expensive linebacker doesn’t seem like a move the Chiefs will make, even if the fit is perfect. But if you’ll allow me this one fleeting moment, I’d like to dream about a versatile front that includes Collins. I’ll be in my happy place. DETROIT (AP) — Patrick Mahomes made more plays than usual with his legs because the Detroit Lions set up their defense to limit what the superstar quarterback could do with his arm.Mahomes converted a fourth down with a run to extend a game-winning drive that ended with Darrel Williams‘ 1-yard touchdown run with 23 seconds left for his second score in the fourth quarter, lifting the Kansas City Chiefs to a 34-30 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday.“With what they were doing, there were lanes to run,” Mahomes said. “I saw a lane and I took it.”Article continues below ...The reigning MVP had thrown at least two touchdown passes in 14 straight games, one short of the NFL record set by Peyton Manning. And, he was the first player in league history to have at least 350 yards passing and three touchdowns without an interception in three straight games before getting slowed down in Detroit.“They found a way to take away some of the stuff that we like to do,” said Mahomes, who was 24 of 42 for 315 yards. “They hadn’t lost a game for a reason.”Kansas City (4-0) stayed undefeated after starting its game-winning drive on the 21 with 2:25 left. Facing fourth-and-8 from the Chiefs 34, Mahomes dropped back briefly before busting through a hole up the middle for 15 yards to help him finish with a career-high 56 yards rushing.“When they start doubling people, there are going to be some lanes and he knew that,” coach Andy Reid said. The Lions (2-1-1) were determined to take away big plays in Kansas City’s passing game, doubling tight end Travis Kelce and receiver Sammy Watkins with some success. The scheme, though Rashad Fenton Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys , cleared space for Mahomes to run and coach Matt Patricia doesn’t regret it.“If he goes back there and throws it vertical with some of the speed that he has, then I’m not going to be happy,” he said. The plan almost worked.Kansas City went ahead for the first time early in the third quarter when Bashaud Breeland recovered Kerryon Johnson’s fumble and returned it 100 yards, taking advantage of everyone on the field appearing to stop momentarily and the officials not blowing a whistle. The pivotal play stood after review.“We preach that every day,” Breeland said. “You pick up the ball at the end, whether it’s alive or dead. You never know.”The Lions scored the first 10 points and after Kansas City pulled into two ties, they went back ahead late in the second, third and fourth quarters.Stafford threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Golladay with 2:26 left to give Detroit a 30-27 lead. The call on the field stood after a review, which showed Golladay got both feet in the end zone. Golladay had a touchdown overturned by review early in the third because it was ruled he did not maintain control of the ball throughout the process of the catch.Stafford was 21 of 34 for 291 yards with three touchdowns, including two to Golladay and one to T.J. Hockenson. Stafford’s second touchdown pass of the game — and first to Golladay — put Detroit up 23-20 and followed a fifth fumble in the third quarter.“There were a bunch of great plays made in this game, a couple bad plays by each team made in this game,” Stafford said. “That’s the way it goes in the NFL. It came down to the last 15 seconds. They were undefeated coming into this game. So were we. Somebody was going to have to lose“It was a good opportunity to beat a good team, and we were darn close.”WHAT A PLAYMahomes opened the fourth with a 10-yard pass to Kelce, who pitched a lateral to LeSean McCoy and he picked up another 23 yards on a play that wasn’t planned.HOT POTATOThe Chiefs lost three fumbles and Detroit gave it back twice with fumbles in the third quarter, combining for the most fumbles lost in a game since 2014. GREEN BAY Youth Damien Harris Jersey , Wisconsin (AP) — The Cincinnati Bengals came so close to breaking through for a win.Instead they found a new way to lose. The offense wasn’t entirely to blame.A defense that had contained quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers’ potent offense in the first half fell apart late in a 27-24 loss in overtime on Sunday.“A disappointment is not finishing a football game now,” coach Marvin Lewis said. The Bengals are 0-3 for the first time since 2008.Mason Crosby kicked the decisive 27-yard field goal with 6:26 left in overtime to complete the Packers’ comeback from a 21-7 halftime deficit. The game-winner was set up by Rodgers’ 72-yard pass to Geronimo Allison that came on a free play.Defensive end Michael Johnson was whistled for offside on third-and-10 from the Packers 21. Officials let the play continue and the two-time NFL MVP found Allison on about a 40-yard pass before the receiver beat a couple defenders for more yards.Rodgers also connected with Jordy Nelson for a 3-yard touchdown pass with 17 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 24, completing a 12-play, 75-yard drive. Cornerback Dre Kilpatrick narrowly missed batting away the bullet thrown by the quarterback into the front right corner of the end zone.“Far too many chunk plays against a good quarterback like that. That ended up being the difference in the football game,” Lewis said.At least the offense showed signs of life, especially early in the game.A.J. Green caught a 10-yard scoring pass on the game’s opening drive for Cincinnati’s first touchdown after two frustrating weeks for the offense. Bill Lazor made his debut as offensive coordinator for the fired Ken Zampese.Andy Dalton was 21 of 27 for 212 yards and two scores for the Bengals. Dalton was targeting his best playmaker early, just like the star receiver had hoped following the Week 2 loss to Houston. Green caught 10 of 13 targets for 111 yards. Then the Packers started getting to Dalton a little more in the second half. The Bengals’ backfield-by-committee rushing attack combined for 30 carries for 110 yards Womens Damien Harris Jersey , with rookie Joe Mixon leading the way with 18 carries for 62 yards.Patriots work out WR Breshad Perriman If the Patriots’ current snakebit situation at...every position that doesn’t throw the ball already has you in a bad mood this week, maybe just skip this and start your weekend early: Let’s Pro/Con this situation:CON: Literally anything on his Pro Football Reference pagePRO: Caught TDs from the BOAT, Blake Bortles. Maybe something rubbed off?If you looked at the Ravens taking Perriman with a first-round pick in 2015 kind of like your dog looks at you when you put the ball behind your back and then hold your hand out again, it wasn’t just you. After not participating in the NFL Combine because of an injured hamstring and not exactly facing the best of the best at UCF, Breshad shot back up draft boards with a 4.25 40-yard-dash at UCF’s Pro Day. NFL.com’s draft profile projected him at a first-round pick after that, while noting that Breshad was “...raw in his routes, relying on speed and athleticism over any precision”.Basically Authentic Damien Harris Jersey , this totally would’ve been a Raiders pick a few years ago.If that doesn’t sound familiar, their comparison for Perriman’s measurables and tape was...wait for it...Josh Gordon. To date, Perriman’s got 576 receiving yards, 43 receptions on 101 targets, and 3 touchdowns. He’s started 4 games.Sorry, that was probably misleading, those are his career numbers so far Damien Harris Jersey Boys , not this year or last year or anything. He also spent almost a whole week with the football team from Washington earlier this month, but got waived on September 22nd.It’d be easy to just figure this is more of the Patriots filling out their BREAK GLASS IN CASE OF EMERGENCY list, but, I mean, what would you call scoring 30 points in the last two games?
William Hayes tore ACL vs Raiders trying to abide by ‘tough’ new roughing rules Womens Antonio Brown Jersey , Derek Carr says ‘go ahead and land on me’ This new rule this year about penalizing players who land on the quarterback on a sack has every team in the league confused and fans in an uproar. It is extremely difficult and often impossible to keep from landing on a player you are tackling, especially if it’s a sack. That’s kind of what it is, so it’s rather unavoidable. In the Raiders’ game in Miami, Gerald Hayes sacked Derek Carr and attempted to not land on him and in the process, he tore his ACL. So, we’re exchanging injuries to quarterbacks with injuries to defensive players. That seems to be just the way the league wants this to go. Protect their precious quarterbacks and skill position guys at all costs, including the costs of defenders suffering serious injuries instead.Immediately following the sack by Hayes, he writhed on the ground in serious pain. “I could hear him Antonio Brown Jersey White ,” said Carr. “I heard him and kind of just rolled over and looked at him to make sure he was alright and obviously he wasn’t. That’s a situation where you feel bad, man. You don’t want the guy’s season to be over. Man, go ahead and land on me, I’ll catch my breath eventually and we’ll move on.”The spirit of the rule has existed for years. Roughing the passer would be intentionally putting all your weight on the quarterback after the pass was thrown, when you could have pulled up. You know, like Tony Siragusa did to Rich Gannon in the playoffs in 2000. The problem with the new enforcement of it is it becomes a catch-22 for pass rushers like Hayes. Risk injury or risk the quarterback escaping or completing a pass or risk a penalty. And how they’re supposed to make that judgment call in an instant is anyone’s guess. Even Carr understands this and he plays the position these guys are going after every play.“It’s that fine line of our league trying to find the right balance,” said Carr. “It’s an imperfect game. We’re trying to figure it out too. It’s 22 guys, full speed chaos for four seconds and you’re trying to make rules for it and it’s tough.”There was a roughing the passer penalty called in that game in Miami. It was called on Maurice Hurst. And it was a terrible call. Absolute nonsense. It was also an extremely costly penalty. It was third-and-9 at the Raiders 34-yard-line early in the second quarter with the Raiders up 7-0. Ryan Tannehill’s pass fell incomplete. Bruce Irvin was held on the play Bo Jackson Jersey White , which means either the Raiders would have declined it and forced a 51-yard field goal try or accepted it to move them out of field goal range in third and 19. But with the penalties offsetting, the Dolphins simply got another shot at it. And Tannehill found Kenny Stills deep for the touchdown. All because you simply can’t touch quarterbacks without a flag anymore.Gruden doesn’t like that a man got hurt trying to avoid a penalty. But he was more upset at the penalty on Hurst and the general confusion for these players in how to avoid getting a penalty.“It’s a tough call. They’re trying to protect the quarterbacks,” said Gruden. “Defensive linemen have it really hard right now. There was a call on us for roughing the passer that I didn’t agree with. Could say that play cost us the game. I hate to see what happens any time a man gets hurt. We need more clarity. I think that’s been a common theme around a lot of rules, honestly.”Remember in the preseason when everyone was up in arms about the lowering the helmet rule? That seems to have been left in the preseason (thankfully) and the uproar has been replaced by the enforcement of this rule. These rules have gone way too far and it absolutely must stop now. The NFL already only vaguely resembles itself from just ten years ago. Keep this up and it won’t resemble football at all.Follow @LeviDamien A week from now it will officially be draft week, but the Raiders continue to host prospects. The latest news has LSU linebacker Devin White coming to Oakland on Wednesday according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.Rapoport makes a bit of an assumption in his tweet suggesting White is in play for the Raiders at four. He may be, but the visit could also just be covering all of their bases, including should they trade down in the first round.White is widely considered the draft’s top off the ball linebacker https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-derek-carr-jersey , though some say the distance between he and Michigan’s Devin Bush may not be much. The Raiders have an obvious need at the inside linebacker position, so the interest in White or Bush would make a lot of sense — Neither of whom are expected to be there when the Raiders make their second pick at 24.Most also have White as a sure top-10 pick in April’s draft, if not a top five pick, so if the Raiders do have eyes for him, the only way they would get him is either with their pick at four or not much farther down. Some believe he is squarely on the Buccaneers radar at 5 or perhaps the Giants at 6.Follow @LeviDamien
Smokescreen season is in full effect."We have officially come full circle with NFL Draft rumors. Very early in the draft process White Will Harris Jersey , Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn surprised many by saying that every position was on the table for the Lions’ eighth overall pick, very much including quarterback.“If there’s a quarterback out there that we deem could help us this year or in the future, we’ll never close the door on that,” Quinn said at the Season Ticket Holder Summit back in February. But after that quote, rumors died down. No one really took that statement seriously, especially considering the commitment and support both he and Matt Patricia have shown toward Matthew Stafford. There’s no way the Lions would actually pick a first-round quarterback. However, apparently there are some that think Detroit may be serious. According to MMQB’s Albert Breer, some people within the league think Detroit could shock the NFL world.“There’s even been speculation in league circles that they could be the surprise quarterback team,” Breer wrote. It’s worth noting in full context that Breer still ended up selecting Iowa tight end T.J. Hockenson in his latest mock draft, and isn’t saying that his sources are coming from the Lions themselves, but rather from what outsiders are thinking of Detroit. We’re in the last week of the draft season, so it’s hard to take anything seriously at this point. However, if this is true, the Lions have at least succeeded in keeping their intentions very guarded. That could be great news, especially if they’re trying to bait a team to trade up to grab a quarterback before Detroit selects one.Or maybe these rumors are true, and the Lions are actually lining up to do the unthinkable and add their next franchise quarterback. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait too much longer to find out. DETROIT — A season of ups and downs for the Minnesota Vikings comes down to this: beat Detroit and Chicago and they’re in the playoffs.First up are the banged-up Lions, who have already been eliminated from postseason contention, but with so much at stake, the Vikings can’t afford to look too far ahead.More Vikings coverageDuty might call for Vikings rookie long snapper CuttingRookie minicamp Q&A with Vikings head coach Mike ZimmerVikings sign nine members of 2019 draft classTop Tweets: Minnesota teams have fun with ‘Game of Thrones’Vikings decline fifth-year option for WR Laquon Treadwell“We know what we’ve got to do at this point. We just have to go out there and play clean football and win football games.”Minnesota won just one of its first four games this season, and the Vikings haven’t come close to matching last year’s 13-3 record. There will be no division title — Chicago already clinched that — but if the season ended now Ty Johnson Detroit Lions Jersey , the Vikings would be in the playoffs, so they still have all sorts of opportunities ahead of them.First, they’ll try to take care of business in Detroit. While Minnesota (7-6-1) has been underwhelming this season, the Lions (5-9) never really looked like contenders. They dropped their first two games, traded receiver Golden Tate and have now lost a handful of key players to injuries. Rookie running back Kerryon Johnson, defensive end Ziggy Ansah and wide receiver Marvin Jones are all on injured reserve.Detroit hasn’t scored more than 22 points in any of its last eight games.“Obviously the playoffs are, that’s the goal and that’s what you’re shooting for every single week,” said Matt Patricia, the Lions’ first-year coach. “The thing that’s different, I think, is that every week you don’t walk into the room and talk about playoffs. You just kind of walk in and talk about the game that week. … The fact is, we still have to go play a really good Minnesota team this weekend that’s coming off a huge win.”The Vikings beat Miami 41-17 last weekend.A few more things to watch when the Lions host the Vikings:STACKS OF SACKSThe Vikings set a franchise record with 10 sacks in a win over the Lions earlier this season , and they’re coming off a nine-sack performance against Miami. They lead the league with 47 sacks.“You know that they’re going to come out there, they’re game-planning against what we’ve done the first time,” said defensive end Danielle Hunter, who’s tied for second in the NFL with a career-high 14½ sacks. “We’d expect to see more max protection, them running the ball and all that. Stuff like that.”Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has been sacked five times or more in 16 games of his 10-year career, and seven of those were against the Vikings.STREAKStafford missed 19 games in his first two seasons while plagued by injuries. He’s started every game since, a streak of 126, not including the playoffs.“It means a lot. Last week against the Dolphins, Sherels had a 70-yard return and totaled 116 yards on five returns.“We kind of challenged him a little bit this last week at being more aggressive,” coach Mike Zimmer said.Detroit has activated returner Jamal Agnew off IR. CINCINNATI (AP) — When it comes to the season-scuttling start Womens Mark Walton Jersey , nobody does it better — or more often — than the Bengals.A last-quarter rally followed by a last-minute meltdown led to a 26-23 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday that left the Bengals 0-5 for the seventh time since 1990, the most in the league over that span. It’s all very familiar.Sam Wyche, Dave Shula, Bruce Coslet, Dick LeBeau and Marvin Lewis all were part of 0-5 openings in Cincinnati during that 28-year span. Shula did it twice and set the franchise record by losing the first 10 games in 1993. Coslet and LeBeau combined on an 0-6 start in 2000 Womens Alex Redmond Jersey , when Coslet quit after three games. LeBeau had an 0-7 start in 2002. Lewis’ team went 0-8 in 2008.And now, first-year coach Zac Taylor can join the support group. Coaches come and go, but the pattern holds. The only question is how low they will go before they get the first win. They play at Baltimore next Sunday, face the Rams — Taylor’s former team — in London, have a bye and then host Baltimore.Their most winnable game would appear to be at Miami on Dec. 22 http://www.thebengalslockerroom.com/authentic-andy-dalton-jersey , the second-to-last week of the season.“We’ve got to get that winning mindset back,” Taylor said Monday. “What can we do to ramp it up a notch to get that first win?”It won’t be easy in Baltimore. The Bengals allowed Kyler Murray to run for 93 yards Sunday, including a 24-yard scramble through the heart of the defense set up the Cardinals’ winning field goal on the final play. The Bengals will face another running quarterback next week. Lamar Jackson made his first NFL start against the Bengals in Baltimore last season and ran for 119 yards in the Ravens’ 24-21 win.WHAT’S WORKINGThe running game finally worked — for one series. The Bengals put an emphasis on the run and let Joe Mixon carry the ball six straight plays on the opening drive to a field goal. The Cardinals adjusted to the strategy, and the Bengals managed only 43 yards rushing the rest of the way. Nonetheless, it was a small step for an offense that couldn’t do anything during a 27-3 loss in Pittsburgh on Monday night.WHAT NEEDS HELPThe defense struggled to stop the run again. Arizona ran for 266 yards and piled up 514 overall http://www.thebengalslockerroom.com/authentic-tyler-kroft-jersey , the second time that the Bengals have allowed more than 500 yards and more than 250 yards rushing this season.Murray came into the game Sunday as the most sacked in the league, but he was dropped only once. End Carlos Dunlap and tackle Geno Atkins — the core of the line — have one sack each this season. Cincinnati has only six sacks overall.“We’ve got to get the quarterback on the ground,” Dunlap said Monday. “We’ve got to get after the quarterback better. We’ve got to cover better, and they all work together. We’re not doing much of anything, and that’s why we’re 0-5.”STOCK UPJohn Jerry took over at left tackle after Andre Smith hurt his left ankle in the third quarter and was on the field for the Bengals’ two late touchdown drives. Guard Alex Redmond was activated Monday after serving a four-game suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancers.STOCK DOWNRunning back Giovani Bernard got a two-year extension at the start of the season Boomer Esiason Jersey , but he’s been minimized in the play calling. He was targeted three times Sunday and caught all three passes for 16 yards. He also ran twice. After five games, Bernard has only 19 carries and 12 receptions as Mixon becomes a main focus of the offense.INJUREDIn addition to Smith’s ankle injury, receiver and kick returner Alex Erickson suffered a concussion in the second quarter. Taylor said receiver A.J. Green will miss another game as he recovers from an ankle injury during training camp.KEY NUMBER1-12 — The Bengals’ record in their past 13 games.NEXT STEPSWin a game. Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins brightened a lot of lives this month.Atkins and his wife Kristen solicited nominations on social media and picked 50 families to help during their annual “Atkins Week of Giving.” Their charitable acts included buying clothes for infants, helping a family going through the adoption process, providing gift cards to use for groceries and donating warm clothes to the homeless population in Cincinnati. The NFLPA announced Friday that Atkins has been named this week’s Community MVP in recognition of the time and money he spent on others.鈥淢y wife and I recognize how blessed we truly are Jordan Evans Jersey White , so we want to be an answered prayer and spread love through giving,” Atkins said in a statement. The union will donate $10,000 to Atkins’ foundation or a charity of his choice and he’ll join the other weekly winners as a candidate for the Alan Page Community Award at the end of the year.
The Steelers spent some time this week talking about the improved atmosphere around the team after things got a bit toxic during the messy end to the 2018 season Rodney Anderson Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , but it will take some time to see if that translates to wins on the field.Until it does, the Steelers are likely to continue to hear doubts that they can return to the playoffs this season. They’ve heard some from oddsmakers who installed the Browns as favorites to win the AFC North and it’s not hard to come across others around the football world who are skeptical of the team.Cornerback Joe Haden thinks the team can use those doubts “to our advantage.”“You hear the outside noise,” Haden said, via the . “Usually Rodney Anderson Jersey 2019 , Pittsburgh, [outsiders are] always, ‘Aw, they’re going to be in the playoffs.’ They just basically put us in the playoffs. Now to hear people not talk as highly of us has kind of put a chip on our shoulder. I think that’s a great thing. We’ve got something to really work for.”If the AFC North turns out as the oddsmakers project Color Rush Rodney Anderson Jersey , it would be a significant change for the division, the Browns and the Steelers. It’s only May, though, and that’s plenty of time for Haden and his teammates to keep things from changing too much. In four years as an offensive tackle for the Bengals Cheap Rodney Anderson Jersey , Jake Fisher struggled to stay healthy. Now he’s about to hit free agency, and he wants to play a new position.Fisher is losing weight and is down to 285 pounds and wants to play tight end, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Fisher is working out with quarterbacks to improve his route running and pass catching skills.During his rookie season in 2015, Fisher lined up as a blocking tight end and H-back in some situations Rodney Anderson Jersey Womens , and he also played tight end in high school. He put on size in college at Oregon and played offensive tackle well enough that the Bengals chose him in the second round of the draft, but now he expects to have a better future in the NFL if he gives tight end another try.Fisher becomes a free agent on March 13 and likely won’t get much guaranteed, but there are probably teams that will be interested enough to give him a shot as a blocking tight end.
MIAMI (AP) — Free agent quarterback Teddy Bridgewater met Wednesday night with the Miami Dolphins to discuss playing for his hometown team T.J. McDonald Jersey , but his visit ended without a contract agreement.Bridgewater, a Miami native, was the backup last season to New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees. The Saints are hoping to re-sign him.A deal with the Dolphins would give Bridgewater a chance to start as they rebuild under new coach Brian Flores. The Dolphins are expected to part with Ryan Tannehill, who has been with them since 2012.Bridgewater was a first-round draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014. He went 17-11 as a starter in his first two NFL seasons, but has started only one game since suffering a serious knee injury in August 2016.Besides the meeting with Bridgewater on the first day of free agency Jerome Baker Jersey , the Dolphins reached deals with defensive back Eric Rowe and tight end Clive Walford and released four-time Pro Bowl guard Josh Sitton.Rowe agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth up to $4.5 million. He appeared in four games with the Patriots last season before being placed on season-ending injured reserve with a groin injury. The deal reunites Rowe with Flores, a former Patriots assistant.Walford also agreed to a one-year contract. The Florida native, who played for the Miami Hurricanes, had 61 catches and six scores in his first two NFL seasons with Oakland in 2015-16. He played in only one game last year with the New York Jets. He joins four other tight ends on the Miami roster. The release of the 32-year-old Sitton had been expected as part of the team’s youth movement. He joined Miami last season and suffered a season-ending torn rotator cuff in Week 1. His release created $5 million in additional salary cap space. The Miami Dolphins could be without starting linebacker Kiko Alonso for their Week 16 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Alsono has played every defensive snap this season, but has been dealing with knee and hamstring issues. He could simply have been given a rest day on Thursday Andrew Van Ginkel Miami Dolphins Jerseys , but there is concern about his availability for Sunday’s game.Alonso leads the team with 120 tackles and has three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and three interceptions this season. He has been the most consistent of the team’s linebackers this year, especially when playing against the run. Dolphins head coach Adam Gase said after Thursday’s practice that Alonso “is hurting, but the longer the week goes Miami Dolphins Jerseys 2019 , the better he will feel.”The Dolphins could also be without safety T.J. McDonald this week, with Gase describing him as “day-to-day.” Losing both Alsono and McDonald would add to the adjustments the team already has to make as they play for their slim playoff chances against Jacksonville. Miami must win both this week and next week against the Buffalo Bills to have any hopes of making it to the postseason this year.Defensive tackle Ziggy Hood and wide receiver Danny Amendola, dealing with hamstring and knee issues respectively, both returned to practice on Thursday after missing it on Wednesday. Also practicing is cornerback Xavien Howard, selected to his first Pro Bowl this week Andrew Van Ginkel Jersey nfl draft , after missing the last two weeks with a knee injury. Howard practiced for his second day in a row and denied reports that he had surgery on the knee.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys advanced to the divisional round of the playoffs on the strength of their running game and run defense. On Saturday night Authentic Greg Gaines Jersey , it proved to be their downfall. The Cowboys allowed their most rushing yards in a postseason game, while Ezekiel Elliott was held to 47 yards in a 30-22 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. It was the sixth straight loss in the divisional round for Dallas, and it has not reached the NFC championship game since 1996.“We did not do a good enough job defending the run, obviously,” coach Jason Garrett said. “They were also committed to stopping our run. They had a lot of people around the line of scrimmage and that’s what they were going to do.”The epitome of the Cowboys’ ground game woes on both sides came in the fourth quarter.Dallas was down 23-15 and on the Rams 35 when Elliott was stopped for no gain on fourth-and-1. Los Angeles then went on a 12-play, 65-yard touchdown drive where all but two plays were runs. The drive was capped off by a 1-yard score by C.J. Anderson.“They dominated us up front, we didn’t get any movement Todd Gurley Jersey ,” said Elliott about the fourth-down play.Quarterback Dak Prescott said that stop thwarted any momentum the Cowboys had after being down 23-7 midway through the third quarter.“We didn’t get it done on fourth down and that changed the game right there. We weren’t able to execute when we needed to and it hurt,” he said. “Had we made it, we still would have a nice balance running and passing and we wouldn’t have had to drop back on every play.”Dallas allowed only 73 yards in its wild-card round victory over Seattle, who came in with the NFL’s top-ranked rushing attack. The Cowboys didn’t have the same success against the league’s No. 3 rushing team, surrendering 273 yards. The old mark was 269 against the Rams in 1986 as Eric Dickerson ran for 248 yards. On Saturday, it was two backs that gave the Cowboys problems as Todd Gurley (115) and Anderson (123) averaged 6.1 yards per carry. It marked the first time two running backs have had 100-yard games against the Cowboys in the postseason, and the first time it has happened to them in any game since Baltimore in December 2008.The Rams did it behind a dominant game from the offensive line Aaron Donald Jersey , with left tackle Andrew Whitworth leading the way by winning his matchups when paired up against defensive ends DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory.“I don’t think they outmuscled us, it was a combination of things. We didn’t get upfield as well as we usually do,” defensive end Tyrone Crawford said. The Cowboys’ running game also struggled. Elliott averaged just 2.4 yards on 20 carries. It marked the first time in three postseason games that the third-year running back was held under 100 yards.Prescott had a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter, but wasn’t used on any designed runs until late in the game, when Dallas was down by two scores. Prescott said he wasn’t surprised about that while Garrett said most of the run-pass option plays called resulted in handoffs. The Rams came in ranked 23rd in run defense during the regular season, and had allowed 98 yards or more in 10 straight games. The 50 yards allowed marked a season low and the second-fewest since former Cowboys coach Wade Phillips became defensive coordinator in 2017.“We played against a real good front,” Elliott said. “You guys kept asking me about stats and 5.1 yards per carry (allowed by the Rams) and I told you its playoff football and none of that (stuff) matters anymore. They came out and played better than us tonight.” Matt LaFleur was hired as the Packers head coach on the back of his work as an offensive assistant C.J. Anderson Jersey , but his record isn’t 1-0 because of the work done by his offense on Thursday night.

But after letting him learn the ropes under Alex Smith, Mahomes broke out with one of the best seasons in NFL history for a first-year starter (5,097 yards and聽50 touchdowns聽). Kansas City scored at least 26 points in every game, the only team ever to do so.STRIKEOUT: The defense is a dud.聽KC’s four losses this season came when they put forth as much resistance as tissue paper — shootout losses to the Rams, Patriots and Seahawks and a fourth-quarter meltdown against the Chargers. Of course, those are all playoff-bound teams. Don’t forget on offense the聽ouster of RB Kareem Hunt, who had 14 TDs. But having聽Tom Brady聽on their roster makes the Patriots a title contender. Coming off an MVP season, Brady fell off 鈥?by his lofty standards 鈥?with 4,355 yards, 29 TDs and 11 interceptions. Getting a week off to rest is important because the Patriots have not been a wild-card team since 2009 Mecole Hardman Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys , when they were blown out by Baltimore.FLAMEOUT: Every time Brady has won a Super Bowl ring, he had a star-studded defense helping him. The Patriots have given up 30 or more points five times this season, going 2-3. They haven’t been able to get to the quarterback like last year, when they were tied for seventh in the league with 42 sacks. This season, they tied for 30th with just 30 sacks.SHOUTOUT: “11-5 is nothing to be sad about. There is also concern about the porous O-line after Watson was sacked an NFL-leading 62 times this season. That kind of duress can negate any franchise QB. With聽Jackson efficiently operating the run-pass option, Baltimore controlled the clock and the rested defense manhandled opponents. Coach John Harbaugh’s Ravens boast the NFL’s second-ranked rushing attack and No. 1 defense.DROPOUT: Baltimore beat the Chargers in Los Angeles on Dec. 22, but QB Philip Rivers should be ready for the rematch against a defense that last week was burned by Baker Mayfield for 376 yards and three TDs. Jackson ran for nearly 700 yards, but with only one career game of 200 yards passing, there’s still some question whether he can bring Baltimore back from a deficit with his arm.SHOUTOUT: “This is what a real team looks like. Ever since he topped the 10 Damien Harris NFL Draft ,000 career yards rushing mark last season, LeSean McCoy set a "12K or bust" objective.Bust was more like it for the Buffalo Bills running back on Monday night, when McCoy totaled 13 yards on 12 carries in continuing what's been a season-long struggle for the 10th year player."I've had bad games, but this? The flow of the season and everything is bad," McCoy said following a 25-6 loss to the New England Patriots. "I'm 30 years old. I've been playing since high school. This stuff has never happened to me. Yeah, it's tough."McCoy, who has missed one game with a groin injury, has just 257 yards rushing through eight games. That's 20 yards more than he had in his first two games with Philadelphia in 2013, when McCoy finished with an NFL-leading 1,607 yards rushing. What hurts even more is being part of an anemic offense that is doing very little in supporting a defense that limited Tom Brady and the Patriots to scoring four field goals through three quarters."It's tough. And you see the defense out there just grinding, it's so frustrating," said McCoy Damien Harris Buffalo Bills Jersey , who did lead the Bills with 82 yards receiving. "We don't do nothing on offense, and it's not fair on them."Buffalo lost its third straight and dropped to 2-6 in which it has scored just 87 points. As for New England, Brady was held without a touchdown pass for the first time this season. And yet the Patriots secured their fifth straight win and improved their AFC East-leading record to 6-2 courtesy of James White scoring on a 1-yard run and defensive back Devin McCourty returning an interception 84 yards for a touchdown four minutes apart in the fourth quarter. The interception was the turning point.Trailing 18-6, the Bills responded with what was initially ruled a touchdown, when tight end Jason Croom appeared to make a diving, one-handed catch in the end zone. The 25-yard catch was negated when replays showed Croom never had possession. Two plays later, McCourty jumped in front of Derek Anderson's attempt to hit tight end Charles Clay over the middle."Those are bonus points. It's hard to count on those," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said. "It was a big play for us. They were driving in the red area and it turned it around."SUNDAY NIGHT SHOWDOWNWith a win on Monday night out of the way, the Patriots can look ahead to hosting Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers for a Sunday night showdown. It'll mark just the second time Brady and Rodgers will face each other as starters. And Green Bay won the last meeting, 26-21, in 2014."Aaron's one of the best to ever play, so it'll be exciting Youth Drew Bledsoe Jerseys ," said Brady, who finished 29 of 45 for 324 yards passing against the Bills.PATTERSON ON THE RUNWith rookie running back Sony Michel out with a left knee injury, the Patriots leaned on Cordarrelle Patterson to help their ground game. Patterson finished with a team-best 38 yards rushing.White had 15 yards rushing, and added 10 catches for 79 yards. He now has 55 catches in becoming the NFL's ninth running back to top 50 in his first eight games.SPUTTERING BILLSThe Bills have scored just seven touchdowns this season, and two in their past five. Buffalo also hasn't scored a touchdown in the first half since rookie quarterback Josh Allen scored on 14-yard run in a 13-12 win against Tennessee on Oct. 7.Kicker Stephen Hauschka accounted for all of Buffalo's points by hitting 51- and 47-yard field goals.ANDERSON HURTThe Bills might be down yet another quarterback after Anderson was escorted off the field after being sacked with 1:25 left. Coach Sean McDermott couldn't provide any details on Anderson's injury because the player was still being evaluated. The 35-year-old went 22 of 39 for 290 yards passing with an interception and a lost fumble in making his second start in place of rookie Josh Allen, who is listed week to week with a sprained right elbow. Buffalo's only other quarterback is Nathan Peterman, who lost the starting job after faltering in the first half of a 47-3 season-opening loss at Baltimore.BY THE NUMBERSBrady improved to 29-3 against the Bills, extending his NFL record of most wins by a quarterback against one opponent. ... The Patriots have won at least six of their first eight for the sixth straight year. ... The Bills are off to their worst start since losing their first eight games in 2010. ... The Bills have lost seven straight games on Monday night since a 23-18 win at Miami in 1999. For the second year in a row, it appears likely that the New England Patriots will lose their top defensive coach: play caller and de facto coordinator Brian Flores is expected to become the next head coach of the Miami Dolphins after the Super Bowl. With the 37-year old headed to South Beach, New England will need to look for a new man to lead its defensive staff and the top candidate might be an old friend of head coach Bill Belichick.According to a report by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and James Palmer, it appears “likely” that Greg Schiano joins the Patriots in what Rapoport describes as a “top defensive role.” As we already wrote two weeks ago, when news of Flores’ likely departure first came out Drew Bledsoe Jerseys Stitched , Schiano will probably be the most-discussed name in this process — even more so than preseason signal caller and defensive line coach Brendan Daly.Schiano, after all, is among the select group of coaches in Bill Belichick’s circle of trust and out of a job since being let go as Ohio State’s defensive coordinator in early January. The 52-year old also comes with plenty of experience, including 11 years as the head coach at Rutgers — where he worked with Patriots defensive backs Devin McCourty, Jason McCourty, and Duron Harmon — and two in the same position for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.Ultimately, however, we will have to wait and see: there is still an albeit unlikely chance that Brian Flores turns down an offer coming from a Dolphins team that is very much in flux at the moment from top to bottom. And even if Flores does leave the club, the Patriots might have other plans. Daly could still be in line to become defensive signal caller. Schiano might “just” join as a consultant/assistant. Bret Bielema’s role might change. No matter what happens, it will be an interesting few weeks for the Patriots — even outside of the upcoming Super Bowl.
RENTON Bo Jackson Jersey , Wash. (AP) — Seahawks coach Pete Carroll wanted to be talking about football matters — Seattle’s recommitment to the run game, the addition of two new coordinators, almost anything to do with what happens between the lines.Instead, the league’s oldest coach has spent the past few days processing and discussing the league’s new mandate that players on the field stand for the national anthem. Carroll, his players and those around the NFL are now trying to figure out how to tackle the polarizing topic in the locker room.“We’re going to have to deal with that,” Carroll said. “I was kind of liking the way it was going and so now it’s kind of taken out of the control from the coach and the players and the locker room to a certain extent, so we’re going to have to deal with that. In time, we’ll figure it out.”Players from Seattle, Buffalo, Denver and New Orleans were among those grappling with how to move forward following the league’s announcement Wednesday of a new national anthem policy, which will fine teams if players on the field are not standing for the anthem. Players wishing to continue demonstrations like the kneeling movement sparked by Colin Kaepernick to protest social injustice will be allowed to remain in the locker room during the anthem.Seattle’s Doug Baldwin had the most striking comments, directed at both the league and President Donald Trump after his remarks to “Fox & Friends” on Thursday saying “maybe you shouldn’t be in the country” if you don’t stand for the anthem.“He’s an idiot. Plain and simple,” Baldwin said. “I respect the man because he’s a human being first and foremost, but he’s just being divisive, which is not surprising. It is what it is. But for him to say anybody who doesn’t follow his viewpoints or his constituents viewpoints should be kicked out of the country is not very empathetic. It’s not very American like, actually, to me. It’s not very patriotic. It’s not what this country was founded upon. It’s kind of ironic to me the President of the United States is contradicting what our country is really built on.”Even normally reserved Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson agreed with the sentiment that the owners’ decision was a message to players to essentially be quiet.“Pretty much. I think that’s part of it. It seems that way,” Wilson said. “But I think a policy right or wrong is not going to fix our problems.”The new policy allows teams to adopt their own workplace rules, which many players interpreted as a backhanded way of subjecting them to fines, suspensions or loss of jobs should they carry on with the protests.Players are also frustrated the league didn’t consult with the players’ association before announcing the policy.“I mean, they weren’t ever going to engage us anyway. When you really think about it, why would we have a say-so?” Denver linebacker Brandon Marshall said. “I think they should have, right, but I guess they don’t look at us like that, to have a say-so or input in this policy.”Others around the league didn’t see the policy as a potential issue.“I’m really not too worried about it. I would expect that everybody’s gonna be out there with their hand over their heart, showing respect to the flag and to the country https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-antonio-brown-jersey ,” New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees said. But teammate Demario Davis had mixed emotions about the policy. His father served in the military, but he also understands why players have been protesting.“I just think that when you love something — you care about it — you want to work to get it right. I love my children. When they do wrong things, I’m going to let them know they’re doing wrong things. I’m not just going to sweep it under the rug because I love them,” Davis said.“I think that’s the difference between patriotism and nationalism. Nationalism is loving your country just to love it, you know, even when it’s right or wrong, you’re going to take the side of your country. Patriotism is loving it enough to sacrifice for it, but also to call it (out) when it’s wrong.“The people who are speaking up for the people who are hurting have a deep love and devotion for our country. That’s kind of gotten misconstrued at times. But it’s important for people to understand that.”The decision by the owners was an attempt to quell a firestorm by moving protests away from the public eye and potentially lure back disgruntled fans. But in the process they may have disgruntled their employees and rekindled what appeared to be an issue that was dying down.“With this policy, with the inflammatory statement that Roger Goodell put out (Wednesday) again you opened the door for response and again to my point earlier, I think they missed it on that one,” Baldwin said.——AP Pro Football Writer Arnie Stapleton and AP Sports Writer Brett Martel contributed to this report. ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Raiders released offensive lineman Donald Penn on Saturday, cutting ties with the longest-tenured player on their roster. The Raiders said they came to a mutual decision to cut ties with Penn, who became expendable after Oakland signed Trent Brown to a four-year, $66 million contract this week that is the richest ever for an offensive lineman. The Raiders drafted Kolton Miller in the first round and Brandon Parker in the third round last year, leaving little room for the 35-year-old Penn and his hefty salary. The decision to cut ties with Penn clears nearly $5.5 million in salary cap room. The Raiders will carry a dead money charge of $1.75 million in salary that was guaranteed for this year.“It is always hard to say goodbye to players that you respect and love both for their on-field efforts and the people that they are off the field,” owner Mark Davis said in a statement. “Donald Penn is another one of those great Raiders who have come into the organization and left an indelible mark on the franchise and the Raider Nation as a whole. He came to Oakland already with a deep passion for Raiders football and served as a leader and example for the team for five memorable seasons. Donald will always be a Raider and his presence will be missed by the entire Raiders family. I wish the absolute best for Donald and his family.”Penn originally signed with Oakland as a free agent in March 2014 and was part of a roller-coaster ride during his five seasons with the team. The Raiders lost their first 10 games in Penn’s first season before turning into a playoff team with 12 wins in 2016.Penn missed the playoff game with a knee injury and then saw the Raiders slip to 6-10 in 2017, when his season ended with a foot injury in Week 15. Penn played just four games last season before a groin injury put him on IR as Oakland finished 4-12 in coach Jon Gruden’s first season back.Penn made two Pro Bowls during his tenure in Oakland and was a leader in the community and in off-field projects.“Thank you to Mark Davis and the entire Oakland Raiders organization for giving me an opportunity to play for you,” Penn said. “It was an honor to play for you. Thank you to my Raiders teammates for always going to war and leaving it all on the field. It was an honor to play beside you.“To coach Gruden — thank you for always believing in me. From giving me my first start back in Tampa, it’s incredible how things come full circle. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me.”His departure leaves quarterback Derek Carr, guard Gabe Jackson, defensive tackle Justin Ellis and receiver Seth Roberts as the only players on the roster who were part of the organization in 2014.Penn entered the league with Minnesota as an undrafted free agent in 2006 and made his NFL debut with Tampa Bay the following season with Gruden as his head coach. He started 170 consecutive regular-season games until his foot injury in 2017, with the only contest he missed coming in the playoffs following the 2016 season.“We’re going to miss Donald Penn around here,” Gruden said. “I got to coach him as a young guy in Tampa and everything he got on the field, he earned. I was lucky enough to get him again here in Oakland. I’m going to miss the toughness and passion that he brought to the team every day. I certainly wish him and his family all the best.”
Through two games using only “the eyeball test” Womens Lamar Miller Jersey , the offensive line appears to be improving. The numbers, however, do not reflect much if any improvement when it comes to pass protection. I saw glimpses of extended clean pockets here and there against both the Saints and Jaguars - something that we almost literally NEVER saw last season.I was dumbfounded that Seantrel Henderson started Game One at right tackle, but O’Brien did the right thing in Week Two by starting Roderick Johnson.Even if we are left to wonder why O’Brien stuck with Henderson as long as he did, he did at least pull the trigger. If O’Brien isn’t just going to “stick with his guy” and let the best players play - it can’t make up for what’s happening with Mike Devlin, but it can at least get the most talented five on the field. With that in mind I asked the BRB staff if it thought the Texans’ offensive line was showing improvement despite the numbers.Chris:Matt Weston:Kenneth O.:Kenneth L.:BFmf’nD:Capt. ALLEN PARK Womens Michael Roberts Jersey , Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions had a lot of possible factors to weigh before trading Golden Tate. The Lions are in last place, but only a game out of first. Tate is on pace for a third straight season with 1,000 yards receiving, but he’s on an expiring contract.“There are a lot of difficult decisions that are made in the NFL multiple times during the course of the year,” Detroit coach Matt Patricia said Wednesday. The Lions dealt Tate to Philadelphia on Tuesday for a third-round draft pick, parting with the veteran receiver right before a pair of crucial divisional road games. Detroit faces Minnesota this weekend and then heads to Chicago, but the trade — which didn’t bring the Lions anyone who can help this season — was clearly a move made with the long-term future in mind.“It’s a holistic picture of taking a look at what’s the best thing for us to do as a team,” Patricia said. “It’s not about one player. It’s about team. It’s about everybody. We have a lot of guys that are really good on this team that can produce and honestly, for me, we have confidence in everybody that’s on this team right now.”General manager Bob Quinn released a statement Tuesday thanking Tate for his contributions, but it was left to Patricia to take questions about the organization’s thinking. Tate is in the final season of his contract, so from that standpoint the Lions got decent value for a player who may have ended up elsewhere anyway. But it’s hard to say what this year’s team could have accomplished with Tate. Detroit fired coach Jim Caldwell after he went 9-7 last season, an indication the organization felt it was capable of more. Now the Lions have sent mixed signals about what they feel their potential is in 2018.Before last weekend’s game, Detroit sent a draft pick to the New York Giants for defensive tackle Damon Harrison, a move that could help shore up the run defense. Then the Lions lost to Seattle last weekend and traded Tate.So Detroit was both a buyer and a seller at the deadline.“We have coaches, and I let those guys coach. We have managers Da'Shawn Hand Jersey , and I let those guys manage,” safety Glover Quin said. “We have players, and our job is to go out and play, so the guys who we have to go out and play with, that’s who we’ve got, and that’s all that we can control.”In trading Tate, the Lions seemed to move away from their approach of the past few years. Detroit has used draft picks and free agent signings to try to surround quarterback Matthew Stafford with plenty of help. The Lions have tried to upgrade their offensive line, and this year they appear to have made real progress with their running game. They also might have had more receiving targets than they needed. Marvin Jones is coming off his own 1,000-yard season, and second-year receiver Kenny Golladay looks like he could be a star.“If everybody’s just going to sit around here and mope, that’s just not going to help the team,” Marvin Jones said. “We’re on to the Vikings.”Still, Tate’s production won’t be easy to replace.“He’s had 90-plus catches I think every year he’s been here, so that’s a lot of touches, a lot of targets for everyone to pick up,” receiver TJ Jones said. “We’re all going to collectively do it.”NOTES: The Lions signed LB Kelvin Sheppard Sylvester Williams Jersey White , signed DE Alex Barrett to the practice squad, and released TE Jerome Cunningham from the practice squad. … DE Ziggy Ansah (shoulder), T Taylor Decker (back), G T.J. With somewhat decent quarterbacks, the Black and Blue division could be filled with some of the most dynamic offenses around the NFL.But which team has the best receivers in the division? Let’s rank the NFC North teams by their wide receiver room.Previously:Ranking the NFC North quarterbacksRanking the NFC North running backs(Note: Not every wide receiver on each roster is listed. Just the noteworthy ones.)1. Chicago Bears (Allen Robinson II, Taylor Gabriel, Anthony Miller, Riley Ridley, Cordarrelle Patterson) The Chicago Bears’ receiving corps is criminally underrated and overlooked. The addition of Allen Robinson last year is just starting to pay dividends. Though he’s struggled with injuries his entire career, his 2018 season was promising (754 yards in 13 games). Throw in Taylor Gabriel—a solid slot receiver—and two young pass catchers in 2018 second-round pick Anthony Miller and 2019 fourth-round pick Riley Ridley, and the Bears receiving squad is solid, deep and very young. They may not have the long resumes of some of the other receivers in this league, but the potential is there for all of them to take a big step in 2019. 2. Detroit Lions(Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones Jr. Ricky Jean Francois Jersey , Danny Amendola, Jermaine Kearse, Travis Fulgham) Detroit’s starting lineup is somewhat solid. Kenny Golladay seems poised to take over the WR1 role for the team, while Marvin Jones is still a little underappreciated as a big-play threat. Danny Amendola is a good candidate to bounce back after a mediocre year in Miami, but he’s still an obvious downgrade from Golden Tate.As far as depth is concerned, Jermaine Kearse was an important signing that can back up any position. Additionally, the Lions have a slew of young options waiting in the wings to steal a roster spot, leading with 2019 sixth-round pick Travis Fulgham. 3. Minnesota Vikings (Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, Laquon Treadwell, Chad Beebe, Jeff Badet, Olabisi Johnson)The Minnesota Vikings undoubtedly have the best one-two punch in the division—quite possibly the entire league—but they have some serious, serious questions about their depth. Laquon Treadwell has been a bust in Minnesota, and he may not even make the team this year. Everyone else on the roster is unproven with no serious hype behind them. If one of the Vikings’ top receivers goes down with an injury, they are seriously lacking any options to replace them. Depth matters in this league http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-jalen-reeves-maybin-jersey , and while Minnesota has two of the best receivers in the entire division, there’s a good chance at some point they’ll have to rely on someone else, and I just don’t see anyone on the roster that can step up. 4. Green Bay Packers (Davante Adams, Geronimo Allison, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Equanimeous St. Brown, J’Mon Moore) The Packers have the best receiver in the entire division in Davante Adams, but everyone else is extremely unproven. The Packers must have seen something promising in their 2018 draft class—fourth-round pick J’Mon Moore, fifth-round pick Marquez Valdes-Scantling and sixth-round pick Equanimeous St. Brown—because they added little help this offseason. That trio was relied upon heavily in 2018, and the results were inconclusive at best. Aaron Rodgers does a good job of making mediocre receivers look good, so there’s a chance a star emerges from that class, but they’re going to have to take a big step in 2019.
CINCINNATI (AP) — Well Andrew Billings Jersey White , that was awfully familiar. The Bengals went to Pittsburgh and got manhandled Monday night, a sight that had fans recalling all those bad moments in their lopsided Ohio River rivalry. Andy Dalton got sacked a career-high eight times — he barely had time to retreat from center on some plays — and the defense couldn’t stop a pared-down passing game in Pittsburgh’s 27-3 victory. For the 0-4 Bengals, it’s bad enough that September has come and gone without a win. The way they lost their latest one, however, eliminated any thoughts of an about-face under first year coach Zac Taylor.“It was just awful overall,” receiver Tyler Boyd said. And in the worst possible setting — a prime-time stage. The Bengals fell to 6-16 in prime-time games since 2011, when Dalton was a rookie, including 2-6 on Monday night. They’ve now lost nine in a row and 12 of 13 against the Steelers Jeff Driskel Jersey White , including that 18-16 playoff meltdown at Paul Brown Stadium that ended their 2015 season — their last one with a winning record. The sight of Dalton getting swamped in the backfield was reminiscent of David Klingler getting sacked 10 times by the Steelers in 1992. Dalton was 21 of 37 for 171 yards with an interception in the end zone , a fumble on a sack, and 69 yards lost on those eight sacks. For perspective, the Bengals rushed for only 73 yards.“We’ve got to figure out who we are,” Dalton said.WHAT’S WORKINGAbsolutely nothing. In addition to the horrid offense, the defense allowed Mason Rudolph to complete 24 of 28 for 229 yards and two touchdowns in a dump-it-off approach that Cincinnati couldn’t stop. Also, there was another egregious coverage breakdown that left Diontae Johnson open for a 43-yard touchdown catch.WHAT NEEDS HELPThe offensive line took many steps backward in Pittsburgh, repeatedly beaten one-on-one . Guard Alex Redmond returns this week on a roster exemption after serving a four-game suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancers. The Bengals also are hoping to get left tackle Cordy Glenn back soon — he sat out all four games with a concussion. But there’s no quick fix to the biggest problem.STOCK UPFew players had positive performances. Linebacker Nick Vigil led with 11 tackles Womens John Ross Jersey , two of them for losses, and caused the fumble that set up the Bengals’ field goal.STOCK DOWNTaylor brought some fresh air to Paul Brown Stadium when he replaced Marvin Lewis, who was 0-7 in the playoffs during 16 seasons. The Bengals hoped that fans who had given up on the team would reconsider, but Taylor’s energy and new offensive system haven’t made a dent in the franchise’s history of futility. Another lopsided loss to the Steelers drove home the point that in Cincinnati, it’s always much bigger than the head coach.INJUREDReceiver John Ross III landed hard on his right shoulder and left the game. It’s unclear whether he’ll be sidelined by the injury. Receiver A.J. Green’s status remains uncertain as he recovers from an ankle injury during training camp.KEY NUMBER9 — The number of times that the Bengals have allowed at least eight sacks in a game. Four of those games came against the Steelers. Klingler’s 10 sacks tied the club record during a 21-9 loss to the Steelers in 1992. Jeff Blake also was sacked 10 times in Pittsburgh in 1996.NEXT STEPSSomehow get a win. The Bengals host another winless team, the 0-3-1 Cardinals, on Sunday, which represents their best chance for a while. Green’s return will provide a boost Clark Harris Jersey White , whenever that happens. They’re 0-4 for the 11th time in franchise history and the eighth time in the past 29 years. “Marvin Lewis is at a point right now, he should be working for free,” Stephen A. Smith said of Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis after the team was embarrassed by the Saints on Sunday and as a result, fired defensive coordinator Teryl Austin.Smith is a noted Lewis hater (like many Bengals fans) and we don’t often agree with him. But the Bengals fired former offensive coordinator Ken Zampese after two games last year. Then Paul Alexander and Paul Guenther were among the big names out the door this past offseason. And now with Austin axed as well, Smith is wondering how many more coaches will take the blame for the Bengals’ failures before Lewis does exactly that.“This is disgusting, it really, really is,” Smith said of the Bengals firing Austin. “Who’s the head coach? Once again. How many coaches have to go before this ownership for the Cincinnati Bengals C.J. Uzomah Jersey White , it’s pathetic as they get, continuously finds an excuse to keep Marvin Lewis, while you let go of everybody else. 15 years, and counting.”It’s actually 15.5 years, going on 16, Smith. But it’s a fair point.Smith says the citizens of Cincinnati deserve better. Do you agree?
BUFFALO Jakeem Grant Jersey , N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane promised he’d be “judicious” in rebuilding his team in free agency. With more than $70 million of space available under the salary cap, he’s also proving to be busy.People with direct knowledge of discussions told The Associated Press on Monday that the Bills agreed to sign center Mitch Morse, tight end Tyler Kroft, running back Frank Gore and cornerback Kevin Johnson. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the signings won’t be official until the NFL’s new year begins Wednesday. The Bills are coming off a 6-10 season and were left with plenty of salary cap space after spending the past two offseasons purging high-priced and under-achieving talent. The Bills focused their initial attention on upgrading an offense that was a work in progress under rookie starting quarterback Josh Allen last year. Buffalo finished 30th in the NFL in yards gained and featured a patchwork offensive line and an unproven group of receivers. The biggest splash is the addition of Morse. He fills an immediate need in addressing a position that featured a revolving door at center after Eric Wood retired due to a career-ending neck injury. Morse spent his first four seasons in Kansas City, where he started 49 games.Listed at 6-foot-6 and 305 pounds, Morse is expected to provide on- and off-field leadership as well help better protect Allen, who was sacked 28 times in 12 games.Kroft agreed to a three-year contract that will pay him a base salary of $6.25 million per season and has a potential value of $21 million, one person said. He spent his first four years with Cincinnati and fills an immediate need on a Buffalo roster that currently features one tight end Vincent Taylor Jersey , Jason Croom.A foot injury limited Kroft to four catches for 36 yards in just five games with the Bengals last season. He enjoyed a career year in 2017, when he had 42 catches for 404 yards and seven touchdowns.Another person said Gore agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract. He is the NFL’s active leader in yards rushing and returns for a 15th season after spending last year with Miami. He continues to be productive after finishing with 156 carries for 722 yards and no touchdowns in 14 games with the Dolphins. He added 12 catches for 124 yards and one score. The 35-year-old will join 30-year-old LeSean McCoy in forming what would be the NFL’s oldest — and most historically productive — running back tandem.Gore’s 14,748 yards rushing ranks fourth on the NFL’s career list, while McCoy is 25th with 10,606 yards rushing. The two are close friends, share the same agent and have spent previous offseasons working out together.Gore is also in line to have another connection in Buffalo, after the University at Buffalo extended an offer to his son Albert Wilson Jersey , Frank Jr., to play for the Mid-American Conference school last month.A third person said Johnson agreed to sign with Buffalo four days after making the Bills the first team he visited after being cut by the Houston Texans. He will compete for the starting job opposite Tre’Davious White. The 26-year-old Johnson was selected by Houston in the first round of the 2015 draft but never played to expectations because of injuries. He was limited to playing in only the Texans’ season opener last year. He was placed on injured reserve after his second concussion of the summer. A broken foot and sprained knee limited him to a combined 18 games from 2016-17.Overall, Johnson has one interception in 35 games, including 18 starts. The Dolphins used rookie defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick at three different positions in 2018. He’d like to narrow that to one in 2019, and he’d like to know fairly soon which one it will be.Via Barry Jackson of the , Fitzpatrick said late in the 2018 season that he’d like to have an answer by January or February. And Fitzpatrick has a practical reason for knowing the answer.“I lost 10 pounds playing cornerback because I moved faster, chasing guys around,” Fitzpatrick told Jackson. “If I鈥檓 playing safety Robert Quinn Jersey , maybe eight to 10 pounds more [is better] so I have a little extra thud.”Fitzpatrick made those comments before a majorthud happened in Miami, in the form of a coaching change. With Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores expected to take over, he’ll likely be the one to decide where Fitzpatrick plays: Safety, slot corner, or boundary corner.
While the Patriots were celebrating Super Bowl LIII with a parade Womens Brandon Allen Jersey , the Rams were cleaning out their lockers, watching game film and wondering what if.Rams quarterback Jared Goff watched the game Tuesday morning, and he said it looked as bad as it felt two days ago.“Yeah, same thing I said after the game: Honestly, it was a lot of missed opportunities, and a game where I wish I would’ve played better,” Goff said. “I think I speak for a lot of us when I say that. But, myself in particular http://www.theramslockerroom.com/authentic-ramik-wilson-jersey , I wish I would’ve done my part better and I can promise next time. If we get that opportunity, I will. It’s just part of learning and part of growing and getting older and experience.”Goff went 19-for-38 for 229 yards and an interception. He and Brandin Cooks twice had chances to hook up for touchdowns and failed.Goff credited the Patriots defense but is “sick” the Rams scored only three points. The Rams entered the game as the 11th-best scoring offense in NFL history. “Nothing changed within my process at all. Really, I honestly expected it to change more than it did,” Goff said. “There was nothing; it was totally the same. Just a game that didn’t go our way and a game where we struggled to find our rhythm offensively. Again, I think the part that makes me the most sick about it, is that our defense played so well. You say, ‘You’re going to be in the Super Bowl and how your defense is going to hold the New England Patriots to 13 points, and you guys aren’t going to win.’ It’s like how? That’s the part that you kind of keep replaying in your mind Dante Fowler Jr Jersey , is how that can even happen. Again, it’s a testament to their team and how good they are defensively and how well of a job they did. It’s something, again, that we’ll learn from. Something that will sting for now, but we’ll learn from and move forward. I know myself and a couple leaders on this team will use it as motivation and something that we can build from.” Here’s your 2019 Rams rookie roster." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesHorizontal - WhiteTurf Show Timesa Los Angeles Rams communityLog In or Sign UpLog InSign UpSectionsLibraryMastheadCommunity GuidelinesNFL OddsStubHubMoreAll 322 blogs on Horizontal - WhiteSections 2019 offseason2019 free agency2019 NFL DraftFull ArchiveLibrary 2019 NFL calendar2019 Rams regular season sched2019 Rams preseason schedMasthead Community Guidelines NFL Odds StubHub ✕Filed under:2019 Los Angeles Rams Offseason2019 NFL Draft2019 NFL Free AgencyThe 2019 Los Angeles Rams’ rookies have had their jersey numbers assignedNew,10commentsHere’s your 2019 Rams rookie roster.CDTShareTweetShareShareThe 2019 Los Angeles Rams’ rookies have had their jersey numbers assignedThe Los Angeles Rams welcomed their rookies, 2019 NFL Draft selections and undrafted free agents (UDFA) to HQ yesterday and have assigned them their jersey numbers.#03: WR Jalen Greene (UDFA)#10 WR Johnathan Lloyd (UDFA)#14: WR Nsimba Webster (UDFA)#15: WR Alex Bachman (UDFA)#24 S Taylor Rapp (2nd round pick, #61 overall)#27: RB Darrell Henderson (3rd round pick Nicholas Scott Los Angeles Rams Jerseys , #70 overall)#37: RB Matt Colburn (UDFA)#39: S Jake Gervase (UDFA)#41: CB David Long (3rd round pick, #79 overall)#46: S Nick Scott (7th round pick, #243 overall)#48: TE Keenen Brown (UDFA)#51: LB Dakota Allen (7th round pick, #251 overall)#57: LB Natrez Patrick (UDFA)#60: OL Brandon Hitner (UDFA)#62: DT Bryant Jones (UDFA)#63: OL Vitas Hrynkiewicz (UDFA)#65: DL Owen Roberts (UDFA)#67: OL Chandler Brewer (UDFA)#68: OL Matt Kaskey (UDFA)#71: OL Bobby Evans (3rd round pick, #97 overall)#73: OL David Edwards (5th round pick, #169 overall)#76: OL Justice Powers (UDFA)#84: TE Romello Brooker (UDFA)#86: TE Kendall Blanton (UDFA)#91: DT Greg Gaines (4th round pick, #134 overall)#93: DT Marquise Copeland (UDFA)#95: LB Troy Reeder (UDFA)#96: LB Landis Durham (UDFA)
KANSAS CITY Khalen Saunders Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys , Mo. — It’s the dead of winter, meaning the weather in New England can be brutal. And that the Patriots are headed to the Super Bowl.It took them overtime and more of Tom Brady’s brilliance to get there — for the third straight year. While the folks back home dealt with a frigid storm, Brady blew through Kansas City’s exhausted defense on a 75-yard drive to Rex Burkhead’s 2-yard touchdown run in a 37-31 victory Sunday for the AFC championship. The drive, during which New England (13-5) had three third-down conversions, was reminiscent of when the Patriots beat Atlanta in the only Super Bowl to go to OT two years ago.“Overtime, on the road against a great team,” Brady said. “They had no quit. Neither did we. We played our best football at the end. I don’t know, man, I’m tired. That was a hell of a game.”Awaiting them in Atlanta are the Los Angeles Rams, who won 26-23 in overtime in New Orleans for the NFC championship. The Rams (15-3) last made the Super Bowl in 2002 while based in St. Louis, losing to the Patriots.New England benefited from two critical replay reviews and made its ninth Super Bowl with Brady at quarterback and Bill Belichick as coach.“This is crazy,” said Brady, who was 30 of 46 for 348 yards. “What a game.”It’s the first time both conference title games went to OT. The last time both visitors won conference championship matches was 2012.Several times, the Patriots appeared to have it won, only to see Kansas City (13-5) come back in spectacular fashion.Brady, at 41 already the oldest quarterback to have played in a Super Bowl, drove New England 65 yards in 1:24 to Burkhead’s go-ahead 4-yard touchdown with 39 seconds left in regulation. That was enough, though, for his far younger counterpart, the 23-year-old All-Pro Patrick Mahomes, to take the Chiefs 48 yards to Harrison Butker’s 39-yard field goal with 8 seconds left to force overtime. It was a sizzling offensive showing in the fourth quarter after defense had been in charge most of the way. Indeed, the Chiefs were blanked in the opening half for the first time all season. And they never saw the ball in overtime, which along with the two replay decisions might call into play NFL rules and officiating.“I thought if we got the chance,” Mahomes said, “we’d score.”Mahomes finished 16 of 31 for 295 yards and three touchdowns.New England became the third franchise to reach three Super Bowls in a row. And Belichick now has 30 postseason victories, more than Bill Walsh and Don Shula combined. That Hall of Fame coaching duo also won five Super Bowls; Belichick shoots for No. 6 in two weeks. An apparent muff by the usually reliable Julian Edelman on a fourth-quarter punt return was overturned by a lengthy video review, prompting raucous booing and some demonstrative arguing from the usually laid-back Andy Reid. Edelman definitely touched his next try when Brady’s pass deflected off his hands directly to safety Daniel Sorensen. His 22-yard return set up Kansas City at the Patriots 23, and Damien Williams, who scored three times, had no defender near him down the left sideline for the score that made it 21-17, KC’s first lead.Back came Brady, engineering a 75-yard march on which Chris Hogan’s diving one-handed catch on third down appeared to touch the ground. Reid challenged — and lost.Minutes later, rookie Sony Michel scored from the 10, his second TD of the night. With 3½ minutes remaining Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys 2019 , there was plenty of time for more points. Williams’ 2-yard run gave the Chiefs a 28-24 edge that New England took up most of the remaining time overcoming before Butker’s field goal sent it to overtime. The Chiefs hadn’t been blanked in any half this season, but they barely were a presence in the first 30 minutes, when they had the ball for 8:53. Mahomes was sacked three times for 43 yards; Kansas City’s record-setting attack ran only 16 plays and gained a mere 32 yards. The zero disappeared quickly in the third quarter. Finally given solid protection, Mahomes unleashed a 54-yard completion to Sammy Watkins over All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore. He then hit another All-Pro, tight end Travis Kelce, on a slant to make it 14-7 — and awaken the slumbering crowd. But one of several bad decisions further damaged Kansas City when Tyreek Hill, the All-Pro flex player, retreated deep in Chiefs territory returning a punt. Eventually, KC had to punt and the Patriots had excellent field position, setting up a 47-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski. Not one to be shy about innovation, Mahomes completely sidearmed a throw to Watkins for 10 yards on a third down, then a dump-off to Williams covered 33. Kelce drew a pass interference call on J.C. Jackson in the end zone, and Mahomes threw a strike to Williams for the score.Although the Chiefs were on their heels much of the night, they were down only 17-14.LOPSIDED FIRST HALFJust as they did last week in manhandling the Chargers early and cruising, the Patriots delivered a message — and a touchdown — on their first series. It was a classic, covering 80 yards in 15 plays and using up more than eight minutes. Michel, who had 113 yards rushing, scored from the 1.But Brady made a rare mistakes on the next dominant drive. His third-down pass from the 1 for Rob Gronkowski was short and Reggie Ragland picked it off.Brady had never thrown an interception from the 1.When the Chiefs finally got a trademark big play on Mahomes’ 42-yard completion to Hill, it went for naught. Mahomes overthrew a wide-open Williams near the end zone, then took a 14-yard sack to send KC out of field goal range.Big mistake. The Patriots kept dominating the line of scrimmage, Brady took them 90 yards and connected with Phillip Dorsett over sloppy coverage by Steven Nelson to make it 14-0 with 27 seconds left in the half.STATSIn Week 6, the Patriots beat the Chiefs 43-40 in a game featuring 946 yards total offense. This one had 814. … New England has played in eight straight AFC title games, but this is its first road playoff win since the 2006 season vs. San Diego. … Brady match former Patriots K Adam Vinatieri, now with the Colts, for most wins in NFL history (236). … Kansas City’s defense tied for first in the NFL with 52 sacks, but had none on Sunday. New England had four.COIN TOSSReid’s decision to defer after winning the opening coin toss proved unwise as New England had 22 plays in the opening period, and Kansas City had seven. Then, the Chiefs lost the more important toss before overtime. Less than five minutes later, they were headed to the offseason.UP NEXTThe New England Patriots head to Atlanta to play the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl. As part of its celebration of its 100th season, the NFL is designating a Game of the Week, each chosen to highlight a classic matchup. For this week, it is the first Super Bowl between the NFL champion Green Bay Packers and AFL champion Kansas City Chiefs. To mark each Game of the Week, the AP will be reprinting its story of a classic matchup in the rivalry. The following is the story from the first Super Bowl, played at the LA Memorial Coliseum on Jan. 15 Khalen Saunders black jersey , 1967. The AFL and NFL had merged the previous summer with plans to become one league in 1970.Starr sparkles as Packers down Chiefs in Super BowlBy JACK HANDLOS ANGELES (AP) — Green Bay’s proven old pros carried the National Football league to a 35-10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs of the American League Sunday in the first Super Bowl under the brilliant direction of Bart Starr.Starr connected with 34-year-old Max McGee for two touchdown passes and sent Elijah Pitts and Jim Taylor hurtling into the line for three more and a triumph that meant $15,000 for each of the battle-proven Packers. Each losing Chief pocketed $7,500.Vince Lombardi’s NFL champs, held to a 14-10 edge in the first half, put a tremendous rush on Len Dawson, the Chiefs’ passer, in the second half and pulled away steadily in a game watched by a crowd of 63,036, in the 93,000-seat Los Angeles Coliseum. The crowd was smaller than expected and far short of the sellout originally predicted. The Chiefs threw a scare into the proud Packers with a fine first half in which Dawson hit Curt McClinton for a touchdown and Mike Mercer kicked a 31-yard field goal. But the Packer pressure was too much for them to handle in the lopsided second half.In the final minutes of the game, Lombardi went to Donny Anderson and Jim Grabowski, his million-dollar rookies, as his running backs.McGee, an 11th year pro who caught only four passes during the regular season and one more in the NFL title game with Dallas, caught TD tosses from Starr of 37 and 13 yards after he took the place of injured flanker Boyd Dowler.Starr, who did a magnificent job of calling the right play on third down situations, was named the winner of a new sports car as the most valuable player in the game. The award is made by Sport Magazine.Taylor hammered his way home from 14 yards out for his TD behind the blocking of Fuzzy Thurston and Jerry Kramer. Pitts slashed home from the five and again from the one to complete the scoring, while Don Chandler added all five extra points. The big break through for the Packers came in the third period when they still led only 14-10. Willie Wood intercepted a Dawson pass and ran it back 30 yards to the five-yard line. Pitts then slammed over on the next play.McGee, a veteran who appeared to be on his way out because he was used sparingly during the season, wound up the leading receiver in the game with seven catches for 138 yards. His first TD catch was a thing of beauty, a one-handed grab to beat Willie Mitchell, the Chiefs’ right corner back in the first period.Starr managed to escape a Kansas City blitz and found McGee free on the 20, and Max ran the ball in to complete a 37-yard play.Hitting time and again on those difficult third down situations, Starr completed 16 of 23 passes for 250 yards and the two TDs. He had one intercepted, however, only his fourth of the year. He had thrown 173 consecutive passes without having one picked off before Mitchell grabbed a deep one in the final period.By an odd coincidence, the final score of 35-10 was exactly the same as in 1950 when the Cleveland Browns of the old All-America Conference upset the Philadelphia Eagles, defending NFL champions. However, this time the shoe was on the other foot, and the old established league managed to cling to its superiority.Coach Hank Stram’s odd-spaced blocking and his changing defenses appeared to bother the Packers in the first half although Starr usually was able to find his target with a pass when he needed yardage.Once the Packers began to apply the big pressure on Dawson, the game broke wide open. Lionel Aldridge and Ron Kostelnik got Dawson for an eight-yard loss in the second period, the only time he was smeared in that half. But in the second half, Henry Jordan, Willie Davis Khalen Saunders Jersey Mens , Kostelnik and the blitzing Lee Roy Caffey dragged him down in key situations. The Packers were two-touchdown favorites going into this first meeting of NFL and AFL champions after the merger of last June. Although the two leagues will meet every year for a world championship in a Super Bowl, they will continue to go their own ways during the regular season until 1970.As Green Bay already had won about $8,500 for beating Dallas two weeks ago for the NFL championship, this triumph boosted their post season earnings for two games to $23,500, an all-time record for a team event. The old high was $12,794 by the winning Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1963 World Series.Dawson had a fine first half in which he hit with 11 of 13 for 152 yards and a touchdown. He was getting fine protection and was escaping the Packer rush by rolling out and throwing on the run. Several times he kept the ball and ran for gains.Bobby Bell, Kansas City left linebacker, did a fine job on defense, leading all the players with seven unassisted tackles. In the final analysis it was the ability of Starr to hit his spot with passes over and in front of the cornerbacks that enabled Green Bay to roll. One Packer bomb, a 64-yard pass from Starr to Carroll Dale, was ruled out and the score nullified because a Packer interior lineman had moved a hand before the ball was snapped. It didn’t hurt too much because Starr took the club in anyhow on Taylor’s 14-yard burst for the second score, breaking a 7-7 tie in the second period.Otis Taylor, the Chiefs’ long-ball threat, was held to four catches and total gains of 57 yards, and Mike Garrett, the elusive halfback, was limited to 17 yards on six carries. Garrett did add 60 yards on four runbacks and caught three passes for 28 yards.Jim Taylor, who might have been playing his last game for the Packers because he still had not signed a contract, led the rushers with 53 yards on 16 carries. He was giving it that famous second effort that picks up vital yardage on third down situations. The Packers threw Kansas City passers six times for losses of 61 yards. Dawson wound up with 16 completions of 27, and Pete Beathard, who replaced him in the final minutes, hit with only one of five.Lombardi got most of the ball club into the game in the final minutes, letting Zeke Bratkowski throw a pass using Anderson and Grabowski and playing the veteran Red Mack at flanker on offense.Dowler suffered a recurrence of a shoulder injury he sustained in the game at Dallas and left the game on the third offensive play. McGee more than made up for his absence. The Packers also were without their first string center, Bill Curry, who suffered a knee injury in the second period and gave way to Ken Bowman.Fred Arbanas, Chiefs’ tight end, played despite a shoulder separation he received in the AFL title game at Buffalo. Fred Williamson a corner back, was carried off the field in the final period.“I think Dallas was a better team,” Lombardi said afterward. “Kansas City is a real tough football team, but I don’t think it rates with the top teams in the National Football League.”“I don’t think they showed us anything different than we expected,” the Packers’ pilot continued. “I think we weren’t as aggressive as we should have been in the first half — just like in the Dallas game.“I told them at halftime they had to be a lot more aggressive — to stop grabbing and start tackling. We blitzed more in the second half.”Lombardi said Wood’s interception was a big play. “It took us down there where we could get in to score,” he said.
When Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was asked last weekend about the team’s plans at center with David Andrews out for the year LaAdrian Waddle Jerseys 2019 , he said that the team will “evaluate it as we go.”They’ve reportedly made one evaluation and it wasn’t a positive one for Russell Bodine. Bodine was acquired in a trade with the Bills before the cut to 53 players, but Jim McBride of the reports that the team is releasing him ahead of this Sunday’s game against the Steelers. The Patriots sent a sixth-round pick to Buffalo for Bodine, who started 10 games for the Bills last year and 64 games for the Bengals over his first four NFL seasons.McBride reports that the Patriots will fill the roster spot by re-signing interior offensive lineman James Ferentz. Ferentz was cut last weekend. Ted Karras is expected to start at center this weekend.: Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports that Bodine could return White David Andrews Jerseys , but that the team wanted someone more familiar with the system for this weekend’s game. The Patriots signed kicker Stephen Gostkowski to a two-year contract last week and that means the 13-year veteran will stay in the only uniform he’s ever worn in the NFL.Gostkowski’s deal came after a report that talks with the team were at a standstill and word that the 49ers had interest in signing the veteran kicker. Gostkowski said that “it was really tough for me to think I was ever going to leave,” but that he felt he had to explore every option and that the process wound up reinforcing his feeling that he wanted to stay put.“But having the extra time, and waiting and taking my time David Andrews Jerseys 2019 , really made me know that I was 100 percent wanting to be here,” Gostkowski said, via Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. “I’m so blessed to have a chance to play 15 years in one spot. I know my position is different than most. But even in my position White Patrick Chung Jerseys , guys that have played it this long, have probably already been with two or three different teams. We love it here. My family loves it here. It would have been a lot to leave.”Gostkowski will enter the 2019 season in third place in career field goal percentage and his new deal will give him a chance to continue climbing other leaderboards through at least his 37th birthday.
